Seven Seven Seventeen

As my friend Devin sang, such a beautiful love song, “He Love Me,” I watched the bridal party slowly enter the space where our ceremony would take place. Heart pounding, Devin’s vocals switched over to “Never Felt This Way.” I tightly grabbed my father’s arm, and knew this was it, this was our moment to walk. 

Four-steps in, I was already in tears. The overwhelmingly amount of smiling faces, penetrated me. Everyone who was in that room, I absolutely loved. I stepped closer and closer to my now husband. I saw him with tears. We were both emotionally overjoyed, and so in love with each other. 

7.7.17 was a joyous occasion and a spiritual awakening of all that is love. So blessed to have shared this moment with our dearest friends and family.

As I prepared for one of the biggest moments of my life, I wanted to show my husband the real me, make-up less with unruly curls. As Beyonce would say, “I woke up like dis” (fa real). As I placed my flower crown on my head, my girls, approved, and I knew I was ready. 

I will always remember this beautiful experience that was shared with the best women I know. Endless laughter, splashes of Tequila and pop music filled the room. This was where kindred spirits connected, wisdom was shared, illuminating sisterhood thrived, and where I, Aasiya, put on a new dress that would forever make me a Spann. 

It was your typical summer day in July, where the sun was bright and the air was hot, early evening on Friday, July 7th at Judiciary Square. This is where the Townsell and Spann family united, in an intimate photo shoot. Our hearts melted away by the love and laughter exchanged before us, but our smiles remained. We were only a few minutes away before our wonderful ceremony at The Lofts on 600 F St NW.

For our guests who are traveling, we have blocked a number of rooms at the Holiday Inn Washington-Capitol.  The hotel is within great proximity to Reagan National Airport, the Smithsonian Museums, the National Monuments and of course, The Lofts at 600 F. St.

Parking is available for $40/day.  The breakfast buffet is available for $22.98 per person.

Our group rate is available from July 3rd to July 9th and is $159/night plus 14.5% tax. The final day to book a room using this rate FRIDAY JUNE 2ND. Please use the group code below to book your room.

We have a registry! 

To close out our shoot, we wanted to showcase how our love coexists throughout our small space.  Though quaint, our studio apartment is just enough for us. Here, paint blends with music, food and drink informs pedagogy, work merges with play.  This is our first home and it is open to all those we love as much as we love each other.

Our last session ends in front of a mural from The Baltimore Love Project. Love is the foundation of our union and is the reason why we’re devoting our lives to one another. How cheesy of us to pose in front of this word!! However, if we’re going to be cliche’, we might as well do it with a dope mural. This backdrop is just a simple reminder of how beautiful Baltimore really is and how art can come alive in places where you least expect it. This shoot takes place in “Graffiti Alley” in Baltimore.  For us, the alley is a demonstration of how when we celebrate our love, we do so with reckless abandon.  Our relationship (like our hair!) is big, bold, and uniquely ours.  Our union is like the graffiti artist’s signature: it will be showcased to the world and no one shall ever destroy it.
