STARMAN.âââDAVID BOWIE SS. (NOT PROOFREAD BEFORE POSTING)
DAVID BOWIEâS Starman continued to play on repeat for the past twenty minutes, as Adine sobbed into her pillow, lowly.
The rockstarâs passing was made public early that day, and she cried then tooâbut it seemed the effects of his loss hit harder now that she was at home, in solitude.
She now clung onto her cat, Ziggy, soaking him in her tears.
Through her melancholy, she croaked the tuneâs lyrics, reciting them from memory.
Just two days prior she had set her mind on memorizing every song from his latest album, Blackstar, then two days post, he was gone.
Adine had wished on her birthdayâthe 8th, just like hisâthat possibly he would do some kind of meet and greet, and she would be able to go, or take a trip even if it werenât a tour; considering she assumed at the age of 69 he wasnât planning such an amusement.
Though it was made known now, neither of those would take place.
The broken hearted sixteen year old sat up, wiping the ceaseless stream of tears which trickled down her cheeks.
With a sniffle, she approached the record player to turn up the musicâs volume.
âDinny, darling. Can I come in?â Her mother inquired, with a delicate knock to the blue-painted wooden door.
âYeah.â Adineâs timbre cracked.
Her door was then pushed open, before she was approached by her mother with an embrace.
âI heard about it at work today, and I just had to get off early to make sure youâre okay.â
The woman wanted to release a chuckle, considering it sounded a little silly to leave work early due to a celebrityâs passing; but she knew how much he meant to her child, and she was also aware that expression wasnât appropriate in the moment.
Adine latched onto her mother, sobbingâphysically experiencing the pain in her heart.
âI didnât even meet him, but I miss him!â She cried out.
âI got you some more vinyls, posters, and snacks.â
âMaybe we can watch a movie or something later?â She suggested, earning a nod from her daughter, as she gasped for a breath.
Caressing the adolescentâs back, she comforted the teen until she was able to calm down.
âI think I just wanna cry myself to sleep right nowâŚâ
âAlright. If you need anything, Iâll be downstairs.â Her mother retorted, brows knit sympathetically.
Finally alone, she played Starman once more, and laid down.
Exhausted from the tears, accompanied with a pounding headache, her eyes fell shut as she slipped away into somnolence.
Bowieâs tunes became white noise, soothing her as she involuntarily sniffled.
She sat at her desk, peering out the open window, into the starlit sky; wishing her Starman would cease his peculiar floating amongst the stars, and give her some kind of assurance.
The luminosities appeared very different that night, as she sunk into her reverie.
Starman was heard playing, though itâs source wasnât found, nor was it her concern.
Though she felt his presence, and she felt peace.
A shining star glimmered brightlyâmore than the others, before the stardust manifested itself before her.
Twirling in her swivel chair, she faced the warm glow, as a manâs silhouette was made clear, before settling as the âStarmanâ himselfâDavid Bowie.
Or, well, Ziggy Stardust for that matter.
Her eyes glistened, as tears pricked her blue orbs.
Almost immediately clinging onto him, she cried.
âI miss you! Please, come back!â
He simply wrapped his arms around her.
âDavid?â She peered up at him.
That made him laugh, as a smile tugged on her lips.
âYou had to make me laugh!â
âWell, you werenât answering me!â
âJust know, Iâm always here, Dinny.â He assured.
âNot in person, of course, but through that old, little, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, vinyl of yours.â
