** I love this quote, I remember reading this for the first time and thinking “woah she’s amazing” but then when I got to the “which I now exert to leave you” part; I grew ever more fond of Jane; She got no time for side-chick business.

** this is where I learned that love should be between two people who respect each other; who are each others equal; none above the other; give as much as you get; Jane was adamant about beng independent and that is something that I inspire to do today. ….also why I’m gonna be a single forever; I’m a selfish ass.

Jane Eyre Month - Favorite Relationship: Jane & Rochester

JANE EYRE MONTH | WEEK 3 | FAVOURITE RELATIONSHIP

“I could join with Diana and Mary in all their occupations; converse with them as much as they wished, and aid them when and where they would allow me. There was a reviving pleasure in this intercourse, of a kind now tasted by me for the first time - the pleasure arising from perfect congeniality of tastes, sentiments and principles… Thought fitted thought; opinion met opinion: we coincided, in short, perfectly.”

Jane Eyre and Helen Burns

Jane makes her first real friend at the Lowood Institute; She meets Helen Burns and she learns a lot from her. I liked Helen because she was in her own way confident and free; she was herself. Even when it got her in trouble with the teacher. 

I felt like she gave Jane great advice and strength; the kind of strength and bravery you get when you have friends. The idea that there’s a person that would silently support you. The person you could look to across a table and make a face and they’d understand or they’d smile at you and suddenly you feel not so alone. 

You feel like Jane did when she stood mortified on that stool in front of everybody, but suddenly the sympathetic faces and a smile from a friend turned her mortification into strength and she stood there with her head help up high; 

Helen was the character that taught me to be brave; in the sense that I started to think my friends were like the “Helen Burns” in my life; they believe in me and if they think I can do something then I can do it. I learned to accept and find strength in the support of my family and friends. 

Another important lesson, that Burns has thought me and plays an important part in my life still.

Jane Eyre Month - Favorite Male Character: Edward Fairfax Rochester

Jane Eyre Month - Week Two (December 21st-27th): favorite male character OR most overrated character: Pilot 

It’s pretty difficult to pick a favorite male character because I don’t think i really have a favorite male one.

I know Rochester comes to mind first, because he’s the main dude. Jane’s main dude, because we all know St.John was a side dude (also what kind of name is ‘st.John” -_-)

I think the thing I like about Rochester is that he in his own way respected Jane and let her be this wild thing; he loved her for who she was and he was patient with her and never pressured her to do anything; and I totally dig the whole dressing up as a gypsy thing to get your crush to confess, but I will never forgive the whole “I have a crazy wife in the attic bit, let’s commit bigamy”.

Rochester might be the male character that comes to mind because he’s the tall,dark brooding hero, but if I had to think about it, then I’d say my favorite male figure (who’s also the underrated one) would be Mr. Lloyd.
