He smiles a little. âI just wanted to make sure you were settling in okay.â He says. âAnd my kids seem okay, honestly. I mean one did just accuse me of hitting on her or something butâŚâ he shakes his head. âI donât mean to hover.â He says softly. âI just know you must have meant a lot to your dad and that means you probably meant a lot to the other version of me too.â He says. âIf you need anything, you know you can come to me right?â He asks softly.
âIâm really glad you and Nik are friends.â He says after a beat. âI always hoped our kids would be friends.â He sighs. âIâm ramblingâŚI justâŚI want to know you. I want to know Nik and James and Trinity. And your siblings, if you have any. Maybe even Tonyâs kids? I donât know. Maybe youâre all friends and thatâs great.â Heâs really rambling now. Bless this mess of a man. âSorry IâŚyeah.â He clears his throat and looks down.
He sat down on his bed and nodded, âIâm settling in as well as I can.â Not entirely true â he was struggling with everything far more than he let on. Gabriel felt his heart sink when his dad was mentioned â a feeling he wished wasnât so familiar at this point. He tried to shake the feeling and this whole conversation off, âYeah, yeah, yeah youâre all trying to be accommodating or whatever. I get it.â He felt a twinge of guilt for being a bit of an ass when Bucky was genuinely offering him help. âBut yeah, I let you know if I need something.â He added a little quieter.
âI think everyone was thankful we became friends. You know, so there was someone around to rein in some of my more disastrous ideas.â His brows furrowed a bit. It felt strange to talk about the past with someone from this universe simply because when he looked at them he still half expected them to remember the same things he did â to chime in with another shared memory, but of course that never happened. âJames was really pissed at other-you last I talked to him, so if you havenât talked to him already, Iâd take things at a snailâs pace with him.â He commented, purposefully keeping the conversation off himself.Â
He smiles a little and nods. âThatâs all I can ask.â He says softly. âI know this is hard for you. I hope we can somehow make it a little easier for you.â
He smiles more. âYou sound a lot like your dad.â He says. âI was always reining him in too.â He smiles fondly at the memories. He bites his lip and nods. âYeah, I havenât seen James yet, but from what I hear heâs...going to be a bit difficult for me to get to know. Iâll do my best.â He says. âIs there anything I can do for you now?â He asks.
