“Been here for a total of forty minutes at best, and look at this sweet little thing.” She said bringing the flowers closer to her face to take a deep breath of the sweet scent of the flowers that had been handed to her a few minutes before. “A love sick second year gave this to me the moment I walked into the castle, almoat made me want to memorize his name,” she chuckled softly, “almost, not quite tho. They will look lovely on my night stand don’t you agree.” Cissa still had a that childish smile of hers as she looked around the room buzzing with students, finally lifting her gaze to see who had listened to her rumble of words. 

She knew avoiding her former best friend was going to be a lot more difficult in the castle, which was so much smaller and where they had so many classes together that she couldn’t skip out on, but the thought didn’t feel nearly as daunting with the support from her friends to fall back on. 

Though, of course, there would be plenty of people who would be the opposite of welcoming. She wasn’t naïve enough to not realize that Professor Ambarella’s disappearance was far from innocent, and some of the more vocal blood purists had been already proclaiming what they hoped had happened to the muggleborn. Lily had handed out a whole host of detentions before term even started, but she wasn’t sure that would make much of a difference. 

Shaking herself out of her depressing thoughts, she quickly picked up the pace, eager to get to the Great Hall to watch the Sorting Ceremony and catch up with her mates that she hadn’t seen in the prefects compartment. Unfortunately, she must not have been paying enough attention, because she almost immediately crashed into someone and only barely stopped herself from tumbling to the ground. “Are you alright?” she asked franticly as soon as she had regained her balance. “I’m so sorry about that, I suppose I was just overeager to get to the Great Hall.” 

Apparently, fate had a different plan for him because Lily Evans just ran herself into him.

“Whoa,” he said, trying to help catch her subconsciously before even realizing who it was. He blinked a bit at her apology, it being the first words she’d said to him since the Snivilus incident.  He wasn’t sure what to say to her, and he didn’t have any time to think about it before the silence would be too awkward to recover. “Yeah, I...I’m fine,” he assured her before meeting her eyes and saying, simply, “Hey.”

That night, Sirius had held up a mirror to James, and even when Sirius was one hundred percent the one in the wrong, it was quite a bit of a wake up call for James. He was now on a path to trying to be a better person, and cutting out the person who had tried to blame James for his murder attempt.

Well, trying to cut out. He just wandered in,

James was cornered, tightening his jaw as he realized he had to interact in some capacity with Sirius. Well, if Sirius wanted something other than silence, he would have to try harder than ‘hi.’ He simply looked at Sirius for a moment before turning back to look out the window.

Then, he saw Dorcas, and the corners of his lips twitched upwards. “Don’t mind if I do,” he said sneaking past her into the compartment. “Oh, don’t worry about it, I can cover it,” he assured her, getting out a coin pouch. “I’ll get a box of beans if you’ll eat them with me.”
