Ao3 does not need an algorithm, you're just lazy
Ao3 does not need a 1-5 star rating system, you just want to bring down authors writing for FREE
Ao3 does not need automatic censorship, it is an archive, therefore anything can be posted
Writing or reading about something illegal does not mean the author nor the reader condones it, if that were true, you could never read a story involving anything negative
Purity culture is ruining fan culture and you all are fucking annoying
there is a voice inside my head that whispers “wing au” every time i join a new fandom. it is currently winning.
Yummy
Batfamily reunion, kinda ?

tim: i got you a present jason: *eyes narrowing* is it my birthday?? did you kill someone? break something of mine??? are you dying??? tim: no its not anyone's birthd--wait, wouldn't you know if it was your birthday? jason: dude i don't even know what month it is tim: . . . moving on, if I killed someone, YOU would be giving ME a present, and if I broke something of yours I would be fleeing the country rn, not five feet away. jason: true Tim: Jason:
tim: anyway. here. this is a kindle. it's like an entire library on one device. has a lot of free books, but it's hooked up to bruce's account so you can buy whatever the fuck you want and it doesn't matter jason: hmm. *takes the kindle and raises a brow* but the question is, does it smell like a book? what about that, huh? *sniffs kindle* tim: *shit-eating grin* Jason: jason: bro why the fuck does this smell like a book tim: jason: how
Take a picture, it will last longer
jason todd is a yearner
he acts all tough, but when he's alone, he's rereading old texts, staring at pictures, or absentmindedly tracing over something you left behind—like your handwriting on a sticky note or a hoodie you forgot at his place (everything reminds him of you)
he has the worst habit of staying up at night (insomnia lol), thinking about you. maybe he should call? maybe he should just show up? would that be too much? (he does it anyway)
jason plays it cool, but the moment his you initiate any sort of physical contact—holding his hand, running fingers through his hair—he practically melts (not that he’d ever admit it)
when he's away from you for too long, he catches himself glaring at couples holding hands on the street, muttering about how "some people just love to rub it in, huh?" (he just misses you)
when he’s out on patrol, beating up criminals, the second he hears a notification going off on his phone, he's checking to see if it's you (if it’s not, he sighs and aggressively shoves his phone back into his pocket)
he alway finds excuses just to see you- "oh, i was just in the neighborhood.” (he wasn't) “you left something at my place.” (you didn’t) “i thought you called me" (lies.)
sometimes he just stares off dramatically, thinking about you. roy has caught him sighing at the moon once (it was humiliating)
if you fall asleep around him, that’s when he lets his guard down. ge’ll brush ypur hair out of your face, press the lightest kiss to your forehead, and whisper things he’d never say when you're awake (cause how can he when everytime he looks at you, you take his words away?)
jason todd is a yearner.

Dreaming of Good Times
A wonderful Pokemon chinese animated short film directed by DaiWei (All Saints Street) and produced by MTJJ / HMCH studio (Legend of Hei) for Chinese New Year.

if you think about it, every time we tranquilize animals to transport them safely to another place, we are the sleep paralysis demon
You know, I love this comic dearly, but ever since I’ve put it out into the world, I realized that
I made a grave error in my script.
A lot of people in the comments have, understandably, tried to correct me on my choice of words, most specifically on this panel:
“And yet a chimp can not learn language the way a human can.”
And I’m here to admit my mistake………….
I forgot to put a disclaimer reminding people that I do, in fact, know what the fuck I’m talking about.
Alright, I know that there’s a fun little factoid that gets passed around a lot - that gorillas/apes/chimps can learn sign language, and therefore CAN do language as well!
And the thing is - no, that’s not actually true. Not in the way you may have come to believe it.
If you want the TL;DR of it:
most, if not all, projects involving great apes and sign language were started and largely led by people with no actual native OR near-native understanding of sign language. Even if the apes DID learn signs, they did not learn ASL in any meaningful way.
the tapes used to prove that the apes were effectively communicating in ‘sign’ were heavily doctored and cut in order to make them seem more cohesive and convincing than they actually were
through a thorough review of the tapes, the apes (gorillas, chimps) involved were found to be effectively signing random things until the handler saw one that they thought was ‘correct’
the handlers were often incredibly close to the apes and were often giving their charge signals - sometimes signing things for them to repeat, and the apes were often determined to be only copying signs their handler threw up, which was counted as ‘correctly answering’
many, many apes often signed in an extremely limited manner - although they had the ability to sign many words, they rarely, if ever, asked questions - one of the main hallmarks of ‘true’ language use
human language is thoroughly agreed upon by linguists to be a specific ability, and it has been determined that current apes do not have anything similar, though - importantly!! - they are still able to communicate in a multitude of incredibly complex and effective ways!
For further reading, I would suggest the following:
Here’s some reading about Nim Chimpsky, one of the more famous chimps, whose life was pretty horrible and frankly tragic by all accounts, even human ones
Here’s a wiki article with an overview of various ape language experiments and their surrounding issues
And HERE is a very succinct podcast episode that neatly summarizes the entire issue within an hour and twenty minutes:
“It’s interesting that we became enthusiastic about ASL in the process of teaching it to a population that couldn’t benefit from it.”Mike te
I highly reccomend this Soup Emporium video on the subject, it covers most of the same stuff the You’re Wrong About podcast ep does but he also talks about those dogs and cats that press buttons to “talk” and specifically focuses on how this whole thing has a lot of fucked up ableist implications that should be acknowledged. Just be warned for mentions of animal cruelty, sexual harassment, and ableism. (I also reccomend his video about Helen Keller which expands on a lot of the ideas about ableism and language he brought up in the Koko one.)
Also stellar comic OP I love it!
You know, it would be hilarious if the Batfamily thought that at some point they figured out all Jason's strength and capacities in the battle, only to find out that he held back ALL THIS TIME.
Like, hey, he constantly spares with Dick or Tim, they saw him fighting with different criminals... It is not nothing new, right? Even if Damian insists that Jason is barely showing his real power... Well, Damian is still a kid, and he likes his brother, he can be just a little bit too excited about him, and he could remember things differently since he was a kid back in the League.
Expect... Damian knows what he is talking about.
So, when something happens (maybe it is an old footage from the League, or something just happened) and the Batfamily witness Jason using his strength on the full mode, no one can utter a word. Just imagine Jason in the combat. Just a pure combat, there are no guns. He fights people with his bare hands. And maybe teeth. Just a one man against an army.
And when he is finally done, Damian just shrugs.
'Yeah, Todd had finally put some effort in his fighting. I still have no idea why he didn't just cast swords, though.'
And the rest of the family goes wild.
Jason Todd doesn't say "I love you" because he finds it hard to make these words leave his mouth. But that doesn't mean he is not showing it anyhow else.
Jason doesn't say that he loves Bruce, but he spends some extra time preparing rubber bullets when they are on the mission together, and tugs him away when they accidentally stumble across the dead family in the Alley of Crime.
Jason doesn't say that he loves Dick, but he knows when his brother is close to the meltdown, so he musters some courage to appear in his doorway, pretending that he needs some company, because Dick would never admit that he himself needs someone to have his back.
Jason doesn't say that he loves Tim, but knowing how overworked he can be, and how little he cares about his nutrition or the mess in the house, he sneaks out in his apartments to clean it up and prepare food in various lunch boxes, for the week.
Jason doesn't say that he loves Damian, but he drags him around the "unbecoming, childish and immature" places, because Damian is still a child, who needs to have fun, but he is too shy and too unexperienced to admit it.
Jason doesn't say that he loves his parents — all of them, Catherine, Sheila, Willis — but he makes sure to visit their graves and speak with all of them a little.
Jason doesn't say that he loves Gotham, but he makes sure to use money he has on anonymous donations here and there.
Jason doesn't say that he loves the Alley of Crime, but he does his best to protect it as the Red Hood and often volunteers to teach kids some basic educational stuff as Jason, earning being called "Big Brother" on the streets.
Jason doesn't say that he loves himself... Because, honestly, he doesn't.
But when a little ghost of second Robin sometimes visits him in his sleep, Jason teaches himself not to be mean and spends time with the boy, reassuring him that it was never his fault.
Jason Todd doesn't know how to say "I love you" to people, but when someone finally tells it to him, he breaks down crying.
He can't remember the last time someone said it to him.
Every time i see clips from the Arkham Knight game, from these memories of Jason being Joker's hostage, I can't help but gasp in pain. Like, what do you mean by the end of it, Jason was so terrified and tortured that he addressed Joker as a sir and said whatever he wanted to hear.

The first time, Tim notices someone observing them from afar, it is when they are all settled for a brief dinner together. It is the middle of the week, and Bruce gathered all of them together to... relax. Which is strange but not unwelcome. Everyone is so involved in chattering and bantering that they don't notice a lingering gaze through the window; they don't, but Tim does.
It takes him a few seconds to figure out that it is Jason.
He is not sure if Bruce reached for him to invite, and Jason just declined, or there was no offer to begin with, but Tim knows for sure Jason lurkes behind windows for a few minutes before disappearing in the night.
And the funniest thing? Tim understands him.
He thinks he is not Jason's replacement — never truly was, despite what the other thought — but in a way, they did swap their places. Because in the past, it was Tim, who hid on the rooftops, staring at Bruce and his family, listening to the snippets of their conversations. And now it is Jason.
It is still different, of course. Tim had a choice, and it was his... enthusiastic project, if anything — Jason doesn't really. But if anyone understands the feeling of standing far away from everyone, it is still Tim.
That's why the next time in happens, Tim reaches out.
It is after the particularly easy mission, when Tim spots the red motion on the rooftop. He slips away from Nightwing and Robin, who debate about something with Batman through the comms, and finds himself standing behind Red Hood.
The way Red Hood taps his fingertips on the balustrade makes Tim remember that he is not included in their comms anymore. He wonders how lonely it is, to hear the voices of his brothers, but never being able to grasp the whole conversation they have.
'Hood,' he calls for him.
To Jason's credit, he doesn't scramble in panic, even if it seems that he is surprised by his appearance.
'Red,' he mutters back, instantly defensive. 'What, came to mock me?'
Tim rolls his eyes; he wishes things would be easier with Jason, but they are not, and he can't really blame him for that.
'Had I ever mocked you?' He copies his stance, arms folding in the chest. When Jason tilts his head, almost asking, "Really now?" Tim rolls his eyes again. 'Okay, I did a few times. But it mostly were jokes about your death.'
Jason chuckles.
'Good one, punk. It changes everything.'
'You like jokes about your death,' Tim protests. 'And I know you allow Arsenal to joke about it, so it is not entirely closed topic.'
'I don't remember allowing you to joke about it, though.'
...
This conversation is so fucking stupid. Tim didn't even came here for this, but-
But fine. He still can win.
'So, you only allow it to your friends. Fine. Let's be friends,' Jason chokes on his own exhausted sigh. 'Do you need some friendship questionnaires to fill to be my friend? I can arrange that.'
Jason kindly flips him off under his breath before disappearing in the night, leaving him alone with whining Nightwing and irritated Bruce in his ear.
The next time he stalks down Jason, who in turn is stalking Damian and Bruce, he shoves in his hand twenty three papers filled with bunch of friendship questions — half stripped from internet, half made by Tim that involve the specifics of their jobs.
He doesn't expect anything to come after it, but in two weeks after Jason returns to the city after his mission with Outlaws, Tim finds these papers filled with surprisingly neat, calligraphic answers.
And he gets the printed copy of the same questions, with one page of an additional one, written in the same handwriting, and with a little sticky note atop of it.
Your turn, Timbo.
Tim smirks.
Oh, he will so drag Jason back in the family, somehow.
@batbirdies honestly this SOUNDS like something your Jason would say
