A short #story picture #book was the #inspiration for this photo. When I was in 5th grade, I bound, drew, and wrote a #shortstory title “the footless boot” — it was really just the cover photo with a few odd pages after it. But the cover photo was an #illustration project that took me weeks. It may well have been one of the first homework assignments, and certainly one of the early #art endeavors that I would’ve engaged in. 10.4.20 — #Moralsupport #team and the last few #deck boards The building of this deck during the most significant industry-complications of my brief time in the #constructionworld – #COVID – has made difficult a scenario that I expected to be much simpler. Lifestyle design has been my aim in leaving hoops — more thought and design autonomy, more freedom of time and mind, more creativity... instead, it’s been grueling and mundane. Bad timing, mostly. All in all, I’m proud of how I’ve been handling these circumstances, which are new to even the most seasoned builders. Nonetheless, here I stand, having to work far too many days, and far too many long hours, to #builditright for my clients. It’s all part of #myMBA and if you know me at all, education rules here. I’ve little to complain about, really. I’ll tell you this, the loved ones in my life have helped offset these difficulties with their support, day in and day out, even though their own circumstances have made that difficult for them to do. In other words: my pregnant wife (and her father, aka Shim Jim) have been taking care of me more than I have been of her! That’s ludicrous. Time to finish these projects up and start #building #ourfamily together. Next project: outdoor composting toilet because we’re about to have THE WHOLE FAMILY HERE IN NC in the next few weeks haha. Busy as ever lately, and chaotic times, and I almost forgot … IT’S MERCER BEARS DAY! 🏀— Going to spend some time this evening… relaxing, reflecting, enjoying a journey, that like all of them will, has come to an end, but not without the fondest of memories. I’m not ‘missing it’, or wishing to live it again. Time doesn’t work like that. I have no regrets about not trying to play beyond college or about stepping away from coaching after only a few years (great years). I certainly do cherish it, though. I’m not sure there was a better experience to be had for me than the way basketball came and went. It took a great deal from me, but it gave me much more in return. Just a reminder of what can happen when a few good folks aim for greater, put in the work, and lay their hearts out on the line for a common goal. Those Mercer Boys though! Hangin’ post-concert with one of our new favorite bands @blancowhitemusic // They’re incredible. @jamierosegollon and I spoke on the way home about how we KNOW, in little time at all, we’ll be talking about how lucky we were to see them in the quaint @catscradlenc venue, 3 rows back. Soon you’ll be lucky to get a seat in a massive amphitheater at one of their shows. They are THAT GOOD. If you’re on the fence about traveling to see them. Do it now. Along the path, there are things, places, people, music 🎶 , and movies 🎥 , etc. that are just flat out inspiring. Blanco White inspired me last night. Lyrically... poetic. Sound... I was in a trance all night. They’ve found a way to tap into that strange, oft unidentifiable emotion (that we all know) which falls somewhere between joy, agony, longing, and truth. Jamie was giddy when we arrived. I was as-much or moreso when the show finished. We had to stick around and meet with them. Join me in congratulating my little sister and my new not-so-little brother. — Matthew and Jordan Karnowski! So unbelievably proud of these two.
