when ilya firsts trades to the centaurs and meets luca and gets close like brothers shane, atp knowns enough about alexie (or however you spell his name), just does not like luca. he knows he is a great player and prospective star of the NHL but he loves ilya more and doesnt want to see him get hurt

so seeing ilya be a brother again puts him on edge and when he eventually joins the centaurs and even the summer before he remains cold and standoffish to luca, and tenses whenever ilya tells him that he and luca are going to go do something

- (luca either stays the full summer of the wedding or only goes to switzerland for a brief period of time)

- i hc ilya and luca both as frozen yogurt enthusiasts and going to get it constantly on summer days or late night dairy queen runs (idk if they have those in canada/ottawa and if they dont im sorry for your loss). im adding sonic to this hc because i love me a peanut butter cookie dough sonic blast and one of my key memories and moments with my big sisters is going to get a sweet treat or a fun drink (im from the PNW so coffee stands with redbull italian sodas) and making them drive and pay

but eventually he slowly lets luca in after watching them play video games and ilya laughing and one day harris teaches ilya what “ily” means but he is pronouncing is i-lee and it eventually becomes a pregame ritual for luca and ilya to say it to each other (thats what my sisters say to each other as farewells) and the last practice of season shane warms up to him he says bye to luca and adds the “ily” to the end and luca looks like he is about to combust on the spot because what do you mean THE shane hollander and ilya rozanov are saying “i love you” to him

BUT that moment doesnt truly come until the day ilya tells luca about his brother.

let me set the scene:

luca is anxious af during shanes first season with the centaurs that shane hates him and doesnt know what to do accept to distance himself from ilya (projecting on king) (i mean dude is spiraling and lowkey contemplating a end of season trade request) (me too king- stay spiraling baddies) until one day ilya confronts him in the locker room and luca with tears in his eyes confesses the truth and his fears and ilya sits down next to him on the floor (i like sitting on the floor) (its soothing), wraps his arm around his shoulder and says something like “shane doesnt hate you at all, he just doesnt like my brother and he is scared you will hurt me” and he tells him the truth and then at the very end luca looks him in the eyes and says “you’ll always be a little brother” (ilya bursts out to tears on que and then luca goes “now your a big brother and little brother” and then starts the heaving sobs) and then once the tears have dried adds “your brothers and idiot. your THE ilya rozanov, and even then if he was using you for money why did he still insult you?! why wasnt he nice?! it doesnt make sense” (it doesnt). and then ilya starts laughing because its first time someone has said that about his brother and didnt pity him the whole time. and shane is hiding around the corner having gone to the locker room to check on ilya who wasnt answering his phone and at this point like 2.5-3.5 hours have passed and he hears him laughing about his brother for the first time in what seems like ever and he cant help but shed a few tears.
