I wanted to make a DJ mix that was something different from your typical pile of bangin’ club jams. So here is a mix of Hindi hits, Tamil chartbusters and devotional chants to move your body and your mind, just in time for the Deepavali holiday.
One of my favourite things to do back in Canada was shop for records. I could sniff out vinyl anywhere and would happily spend hours digging through crates.
I have not laid eyes on a vinyl record since I arrived in this country. So over here, I go shopping for CDs instead. My favourite place to go is Little India in Georgetown in Penang. That’s where I picked up most of the music on this mix. There are lots of music stores in Little India and they all like to set up big PA speakers on the sidewalk and battle it out. It’s a nice change from the musical desert that is Kelantan. I just walk around until something catches my ear and then I go in and talk to the shopkeeper. And that’s how I spend all my money.
I added a bunch of beats and edits and whatnot to put this mix together so I hope you enjoy it. Here’s a track list to the best of my ability. Happy Deepavali!
