Characters: Evie Frye & Jacob Frye
The air in the abandoned Underground station was thick with smoke and dust, the kind that scraped your lungs raw with every breath. Flickering gas lamps cast broken shadows along the stone walls, making London feel like a grave that had forgotten how to stay quiet.
Evie pressed her back against a pillar, heart hammering. Somewhere deeper in the tunnels, someone was trapped, an informant, bleeding, alone. And Jacob had already made his decision.
"I’m going," Jacob said, tightening his gloves.
Evie stepped in front of him before he could take another step. "No. You’re not"
Jacob blinked, startled: "Evie, move!!!"
"I won’t." Her voice raising. "You saw what’s down there. Starrick’s men, explosives, collapsing tunnels, you won’t come back."
He scoffed, trying to sound light. "I will, how do you think about greatest Jacob Frye, sis?"
"That’s not funny," she snapped, her eyes burning. "We should stay here!!"
Jacob’s expression hardened. "Someone in the danger. They’re scared, Evie. Alone. And I can help."
"And what about me?" The words slipped out before she could stop them.
"About you? You're not little kid, especially I don't think you need my company, don't you, Evie?" Jacob went to exit , then suddenly Evie pressed him against the wall gripping his shoulders.
"You're not going anywhere!!"
"You don’t get it," he said softly. "If I don’t go..."
Evie cut him off, her voice is breaking.
Jacob yells "Selfish? I’m trying to save someone."
"No," she said, stepping closer, her tears threatening now. "You’re trying to be a hero so you don’t have to think about what happens if you die!!!"
Jacob's eyes widened, he yells back. "Just let me go already!!"
"NO, YOU GONNA DIE, I'M NOT GONNA LET THIS HAPPEN AGAIN. I’ve already lost Father, I won’t lose you too."
Jacob swallowed hard. For the first time, fear crept into his eyes when he see his sister crying.
"I can't deal with it again.... please don't let this happen... don't die...not you..."
Jacob wraps his arms around Evie tightly holding her against his shoulder as she sobbing, his heart beating loudly in his chest, he never thought Evie need him like that, he grips her tighter not wanting to go and leave her alone, he's now scared to die.
"I promise you won't lose me, Evie"
