Warnings: unplanned pregnancy, adversity to pregnancy, mentions of abortion (nothing graphic!).
Note: this is a very, very, very poor take on an amazing plot :(
The two of you had been together for four years at this point. More in love than you ever had been. But this. This was a change. One you had never given much thought to, something both of you had never really spoken about.
âYou havenât slept baby,â Jake murmured, taking your body in his arms. He held you tightly, his skin against yours, both of you covered by your comforter.
The D.C. weather seemingly only growing colder by the day. It was February, another ten months before youâd know if America would be staying in the clutches of Trump and his goonies.
âI couldnât,â you mumbled, turning over and smiling softly at his tired face. His brown eyes still dusted with sleep, his hair free from product falling against his skin.
âWhyâs that, love?â Jake asked, forever concerned about what minuscule thing bothered you in your life.
Thereâs a possibility Iâm pregnant with your baby, thatâs why. You thought. You wanted to tell him but not yet. Not until you found out.
You had noticed your nausea, constantly feeling sick but you had managed to hide throwing up. Jake remained oblivious.
âJust... one of those nights,â you smile, not wanting him to worry for you. Youâd be fine. You were almost sure of it.
The two of you lay there a little longer, sharing soft kisses, light conversation but mostly just enjoying each otherâs warmth and company.
***
The news hit you like a tonne of bricks. Four home pregnancy tests, all positive, and now confirmation from your own doctor that you were in fact six weeks pregnant with Jakeâs baby. You didnât know what to do. You had spent the whole car ride home shaking. Jake was off that evening, completely exhausted and in need of a break.
The last thing he needed was this.
But you couldnât handle knowing this alone. You needed him, you needed his help.
He had dinner ready when you got there. His smile bright as he settled on the couch beside you, passing your plate over and grinning at the fact that he was at home with you.
So you stayed silent that night. Fear of ruining the serenity Jake had created made you keep your mouth shut about the baby.
âHey,â you called softly, catching his attention and pulling it away from the game on TV. He turned, smiling at you, âI love you,â
Jake grinned, lying flat against your stomach, your hands finding his hair and carding your fingers through his grey locks.
âI love you more,â he mumbled, nuzzling his face into your stomach, your heart picking you speed as if somehow heâd find out there was a baby right under his head.
His arms snaked around your waist, hugging you tightly while you ran your fingers through his hair, over and over again. You couldnât ruin this. Not tonight.
***
The next day, you still hadnât worked up the courage to tell him. A Saturday. The last one of February. And you wanted him to know, mainly because you were struggling with yourself. With the fact that there was a tiny baby growing inside of you that you couldnât hide from him forever.
You had spent the last week weighing up what was going through your mind. Jake was older, you didnât even know if it was something he really wanted. The age difference was never an issue to you. You loved him no matter what. You had loved him since you first met him. He was your everything.
But then again, would he want to have a baby. He was fifty- one, it was a lot and he was only on the up and up in work. He was constantly busy. He made time for you, but would he have time to focus on a baby?
âYouâre lost in your thoughts baby,â Jake mused, reaching out to pull you to his side of the couch. You settled on his lap, back against the couch cushions, legs thrown forward.
You shook your head. Lost in thought was an understatement. You didnât even know what to think. It had been three days since the home pregnancy tests, one day since you found out you were really going to be a mom. And he still didnât know.
Looking down as you laced your fingers together, the lack of a ring on your finger was another thing that weighed heavily on you.
Not that you didnât trust Jake. You trusted him with your life. With everything. But having a marriage, just something more secure when you were pregnant... it was a fear that it was easier for both of you to fall apart.
âI have to tell you something,â you said suddenly, his face changing to a look of concern. The seriousness of your voice scared him a little.
He sat back, facing you. Your hands left his and they started fidgeting. Your heart was thumping in your chest. How was he going to take this? Would it lead to a break up?
âIâm pregnant, Jake,â you blurt out, the room filled with silence the second his name left your mouth.
He didnât move, he didnât speak. You had to make sure he was still breathing at this point. Minutes passed and he stayed silent.
âItâs only a couple of weeks,â you said, almost leaving the option open for discussion depending on what he thought of this.
Jake looked to you finally, he had so many things swimming in his mind and he knew this was slightly harder on you since you had the baby in you. He didnât want to say the wrong thing.
âWhat do you want to do?â Jake asked suddenly, he winced, hoping it didnât sound too harsh. He just wanted to make sure you were okay with this before he started planning anything.
You looked a bit shocked. You felt it too. You honestly didnât know what you wanted to do, but the fact Jake wasnât freaking out was something.
âI donât know, I was-â you stopped to laugh at yourself, âI almost hoped youâd have an answer,â
Jake allowed a smile to pull at his lips at that one. At least you were laughing about it but he knew your mind was far from light and joyful at the news.
âWell....â Jake stopped to clear his throat, âwe havenât spoken about it,â
That wasnât a lie. Kids never really came up in conversation, neither did marriage. The two of you just lived in the moment, taking each day as it came. And that lack of pressure led to four amazing years together.
âNot passed the âyeah, maybe one dayâ conversation,â you said, and that wasnât even a conversation.
You had been out with friends when one of yours asked if you thought about kids and âyeah, maybe one dayâ was your answer. You didnât press forward and Jake seemed happy with that.
âI didnât think that day would come so soon,â Jake jabbed, attempting a joke but neither one of you laughed when the reality of it settled in on the both of you.
You really were pregnant. You were going to have a baby with Jake and it was so unplanned that your surprise had taken you days to come out of.
âYou and me both,â you said, you ran your fingers through your hair. You were tired, worried, scared, you felt every emotion there is. But happiness.
You didnât feel happy about this. It wasnât something you wanted, you werenât sure you ever wanted it. And you knew Jake didnât want it but he wouldnât say that.
âOkay but maybe this is a good thing,â Jake breathed, lacing your fingers together. His thumb brushed over the back of your hand, attempting to comfort you.
The topic of abortion crossed your mind. You were almost one hundred perfect certain you didnât want this. But that small part of your mind was telling you to keep it.
âA good thing?â You asked, almost in disbelief at his positivity. You didnât really see this as a good thing, maybe it would be eventually but not right now.
âI donât know I just donât want us to freak out,â Jake chuckled, he was already internally starting to panic. A baby. One who would depend on him and you. Jake wasnât ready for that.
Jake never strived to be a family man. He focused on his career and when you walked into his life, career driven and absolutely no maternal desire, Jake knew he had met his match.
âI did that on the way home from the doctors yesterday,â you pointed out, remembering the way your hands gripped the steering wheel, the sheet of sweat that had covered your body.
The room fell silent again. The TV still paused on whatever Jake had been watching. You could hear your heart beating wildly in your chest. You didnât know what to do.
âI thought about getting an abortion,â you said, looking at him again, you moved your hair off of your neck when you felt yourself getting hot again, âI just donât know if I can do it,â
Jake understood. Not only was it something happening to you, but the guilt you might feel after itâs done, Jake knew it would weigh you down.
âSo itâs happening and... weâre just gonna get there,â Jake said, trying his hardest to take it in his stride like he did almost everything else in his life.
You nod, glancing down at your stomach that you felt would become a taboo discussion in the months to come.
âYeah. I just,â you started, clearing your throat and trying not to get choked up, âI just really donât what to do this alone,â
You were scared, and you knew he was too. But you could not face this alone, not when it was such a massive change in your life.
âNever. You wonât be alone,â Jake reassured, wrapping his arms around you and hugging you even closer to him, âIâm gonna be right here,â
This was no doubt going to be a long road, and full of new revelations and endless questions. You knew both of your calmness wouldnât last.
***
When you reached the fourth month of your pregnancy, and it was getting harder for you to do your job, your frustrations had really set in.
Your bump had truly popped that month. A true tell of the impending baby and a constant reminder. Both of you were trying to avoid it for now.
You didnât cradle your bump like most women did, Jake didnât really acknowledge it when you and him were spending time alone together. But he still loved you the same, and was there for you as much as you needed him.
Shamefully, you had been so caught up in what to do, you hadnât even stopped to wonder what Jake was feeling.
Jake was on the up in work- he always was. Whispers of him becoming Chief Washington Correspondent and an extended show slot. You had been so happy when he told you, you didnât stop to think that he was growing more nervous.
Jake didnât share your excitement for his promotion. He was worried about you even more now. Your job, that you loved so much, was becoming harder and harder the further you moved in the pregnancy. He didnât want to work longer and leave you alone. He was so torn.
Your maternity leave would be kicking in soon. You had just over a month left before your boss was forcing you to take it easy. Jake hated it. You were driven by your career, not by becoming a mother.
The more the pregnancy progressed, the more Jake was starting to revert and live inside his own head. He was constantly thinking about you, about the baby, about work, the future. And rather than airing his thoughts, he was keeping them locked inside.
Lying side by side in bed, your head on Jakeâs bicep while you both silently thought things over, you knew in your heart something was completely taking your boyfriend captive in his own head.
Turning your head, you press your lips to his chest, forcing him to look at you. You sigh, his brown eyes almost void of any emotion.
âWhatâs going on up there?â You ask softly, pushing yourself up, resting on your elbow to look down at him.
Jake remained silent, turning over, your bump brushed against him. His body tensed a little, but he shook it off almost as soon as it happened.
âJake, if you donât talk to me,â you said in a slight warning tone. It was hard for both of you. And it wasnât getting any easier the closer you got to November when your baby would be here.
âItâs hard for me too, baby,â Jake sighed, knowing you had kept your fair share of things locked up inside the past couple of months.
You had found it strange how the two of you carried on as if nothing was changing and as if your abdomen wasnât expanding daily. Jake didnât seem as bothered.
âAnd I didnât say it wasnât,â you answer, lifting your hand to his cheek and brushing your thumb over his cheekbone, âbut if I donât have you to listen to me I have nobody to listen to me,â
âIâm sorry,â Jake sighed, he really didnât know what to do with this. Everything would change when the baby was born, âcan I just take a minute? Itâs-â
He cut himself off, signing as he climbed out of bed and moved to get his sweatpants and a hoodie, grabbing his shoes too.
âIt just kind of hit me, how real this is,â Jake said, returning to your side. He kissed you softly, lips lingering against yours. He pulled away suddenly and you let him go.
***
Jake got into his car and drove. He had no destination in mind, itâs just what he did when he had a lot on his mind.
Despite you being four months into the pregnancy and both of you having known from early on, Jake couldnât wrap his head around it. He had tried, he had attempted to get parenting advice off of his friends with kids. But he panicked and walked away.
It was a surreal feeling for him knowing there was currently a mini version of both of you growing inside of his girlfriend. He had never thought about it. He didnât even think he wanted it.
His lack of excitement and your lack of interest allowed Jakeâs mind to rush to his journalistic approach. And he questioned. Everything.
Did you not want the baby? Did he really, deep down, not want it either? Did something he did make you keep the baby? Are you okay? Is the baby okay? How will both of you cope when they get here? Will you be alright during the birth and after? Would both of you change your minds and become loving to the baby? Would he be a good father?
At any given moment, all of these questions, and more, were running through Jakeâs mind. And he didnât have an answer for any one of them.
What he did know, is he kept things locked up. They were all hidden away from you and if you knew how much he was hiding, you wouldnât be pleased.
Jake wasnât used to living in his head, and he didnât know why he had started doing it. Ever since you two started dating, you had been completely honest with each other.
Jake shook his head. He needed to get home to you and stop overthinking everything. From now on, he would be taking it one day at a time.
donât worry, i read this SEVERAL times and then proceeded to yell at @cnnownsme for even THINKING she didnât do the plot justice! she killed it, as always and i canât wait for part two! đĽ°
hey!! Could you write like an enemies to lovers kinda fic with Jake preferably. ThankssđĽşđĽşđĽşđ
+ how about: jake tapper interviews senator!female reader and things get spicy because of the tension. think like the senator is a freshman, newly elected and joins on a panel and jake feels like he has been punched in the gut
Note: Pardon the absolutely terrible plot. Iâll do another fluffy oneshot with Senator!reader soon. I just needed to get this out of my system soon lmao.
Jake couldn't believe what was happening.
You had caught him off-guard, and it irked him far more than he'd like to admit.
Usually, he had no trouble finding loopholes in a politician's statement; call them out on their bluff as soon as the moment was right, and get them to talk about topics they notoriously refused to acknowledge.\
However, you turned out to be a force to be reckoned with.
Newly elected into the Senate, you were the youngest Senator on the floor, alongside your Georgian counterpart, Jon Ossoff. It wasn't easy for you to get where you were now. You had to work thrice as hard and nearly run yourself into the ground.
You were determined to make waves and made it very clear. You weren't about to let anybody - even an attractive anchor - get in the way of it.
Throughout the interview, you refused to budge. Jake threw a dozen curve balls at you, and you managed to dodge them all. You were unwavering on your stance, sending a clear message - not only to the Republicans in the Senate but also to everyone else in the world. You were there to get shit done.
Jake despised it. He hated how you danced around a subject - one he was desperate to talk about and how flawlessly you skirted. All the while, he was scrambling to break your resolve.
That had never happened to him before.
He wasn't used to this sort of defeat, and the outcome of the interview was most certainly not in his favour.
By the end of the panel, he was seething, the vein on his forehead nearly popping out when he spotted that smug smile on your face. You knew what you were doing, and you were proud of it.
It wasn't so easy to get under the CNN anchor's skin, and somehow you'd managed to accomplish it.
God, he wanted to wipe that smirk off your face so bad.
***
You weren't prepared to face the anchor so soon after your appearance on his show. You knew you'd ruffled his feathers. You weren't planning on it, but then you noticed his attack strategy, and you couldn't afford to come out of your first interview since voting on that bill looking like a damn fool.
You should've known you'd end up running into him at these events. He was a well-known face in the political scene. Albeit he was a journalist, Jake lingered around with renowned politicians and gathered intel on what was going up in the Hill in true journalistic fashion.
You're too busy laughing at a joke someone had said to notice his large frame getting closer and closer to the group. But then, you hear one of your congressional counterparts call out his name, inviting him into the ongoing conversation.
"There he is, my man Jake!" the man in question takes his place just beside you, one of his hands shoved into the pocket of his pants, the smell of his aftershave overtaking your senses.
"Senator," he turns his attention to you in curt greeting. As you held his gaze, you realised it was easy to get intimidated by him. He carried himself in a way that would have anyone from your profession running away in fright.
However, you had enjoyed provoking him during your last meeting far too much to stand down now. So, with a sardonic smile on your lips, you extended your hand towards him, "Tapper."
Subconsciously, you both were playing a game of intimidation, eagerly waiting for the other to wilt to claim victory.
The salutations were the only two words you both exchanged, the air thickening as tension rose between the two of you.
You had no plans on focusing on him, but then he said something that made you chuckle. Unable to stop yourself, you argue, "Of course the bill is ambitious! It has to be to fix the fucked up infrastructure of this country."
With a sarcastic laugh, Jake shook his head, "But it's not going to pass. You really think the Republicans across the aisle are going to vote in favour?"
"We don't need the Republicans," you uttered in disbelief. Does he think you have no idea about the people you work with every day?
"We have enough votes as it is," you added, ready to end this conversation and leave for some fresh air.
"Sinema and Manchin are going to prove otherwise," he arched a brow towards you, a smug smile on his lips.
You took a deep breath, hyperaware of the company you both had near you. "Don't worry about what happens on the Senate floor, Tapper. We will handle it," you smiled a tight-lipped smile.
"Well..." he dragged, and you wanted nothing more than to shove a drink on his face. "It's kind of my job, but whatever you say, Senator."
Then, you saw yourself out, unable to stand in his presence any longer. You hated that he kept challenging you as if he was better than you. You despised yourself more for wanting him to do ungodly things to you. Fuck, your body was betraying you.
"What was that with Jake Tapper?" your friend asked, an amusing glint in her eyes as she spoke.
"What?"
"Your argument, and also the way you both were nearly eye-fucking each other."
That made you laugh. That was the last thing that was happening. "Pfft, as if."
"I just can't stand him. He's been after my ass ever since I was in his show for an interview," you explained, hoping she would drop the subject altogether.
"Hmm, whatever you say," she mused. "You'll be saying something else entirely when you have Jake's children."
"What?" you exclaimed out loud.
"What? I've got to go," with that, she scurried off in the distance.
As your friend's figure disappears from your vision, you hear footsteps moving towards you. You don't have to turn around to know who it is. The musky scent of his aftershave was enough to remind you of its owner.
"You're so infuriating, you know that?" his voice comes out in a growl, and you have to stop your knees from buckling underneath you. His warmth fans over you as you feel his front pressed against your back.
'I'd say the same for you," you gulp, attempting to maintain your unfazed composure.
Suddenly, a gasp falls from your lips when his strong hand grabs ahold of your wrist, pining you firmly against the wall of the hallway.
The sounds of the party drifting into the distance are fainter now, your heavy breathing filling in the gaps. With every heave of your chest, you brush against his. neither of you speaks. His eyes are deep and stormy with flickers of apprehension as he stares down to assess you.
You can feel heat pooling in your core at the intensity of his gaze, and you have to suppress a whimper from escaping your lips.
âEver since you decided to act like a fucking brat,â Jake says after several minutes, his voice thick and low, breath fanning over your cheeks.
"I've been wanting to put you in your place," he adds, leaning closer.
You can't help but roll your eyes, "well, maybe you shouldn't have tried to turn the whole argument against me."
Jake doesn't answer. Instead, he angles himself in a way that presses his hips against yours, his bulge digging into your stomach. your heart thuds in your ears.
âPlease,â you can't help but whimper, refusing to meet his gaze.
âPlease what?â his nose brushes against your cheek, sweat trickling down the side of your face.
You shudder at the contact. However, as tempting as Jake was, you weren't going to give in. No, he was going to have to work for it.
âWhat?â Jake laughs. "Cat got your tongue?" he hums teasingly as he firmly keeps you pressed against the wall.
"F-fuck, please fuck me!" your voice is laced with desperation and shame from your inevitable defeat.
âSee? That wasn't so hard, was it? Jake pulls away, one brow quirked. "It's good to accept the truth sooner rather than later."
âYou're so full of yourself, aren't you?â you persist.
Attempting to twist out of his grip, you push your back against the surface behind you, but it only brings you closer to him.
Jake doesnât answer. Instead, he inhales deeply and shifts away from you just slightly, only far enough to press his hands between your bodies before moving them to lock your wrists by your sides.
Slowly, he slides a muscular knee between your parted thighs. You hiss as skin connects with skin, and you're grateful for having worn a short dress. Jakeâs eyes, which had been glued to your lap, snap up to meet yours, his tongue darting out to wet his lips.
His gaze unwavering, Jake keeps one of his hands circled around your wrist as the other lightly trails from your knee to the hem of your dress. The fabric was riding dangerously high, and his fingers easily graze the bend of your hip. His digits hover over your skin, stopping just shy of the lace covering your core, pausing for permission to continue.
You nod eagerly., making the corner of his mouth twitches upward. Suddenly, he rips the fabric from you, and your heart sinks to your stomach as white lace lands on the floor. The two of you freeze, panting as you wait for any sign that someone heard the suspicious sound. A moment passes, and then another, his deep brown eyes bore into yours as he finally moves.
âFuck,â you whine when his fingertips finally brush against your folds. "Please. More.â
âGotta be quiet, sweetheart. We don't want anyone seeing their Senator like this, would we?â he nips at your earlobe lightly, his hot breath fanning over you. Shivering, you shake your head in agreement. âGood girl.â
The praise pools in your stomach and your hips involuntarily jut against his palm. Jake chuckles softly, pulling away to pin you with his wonton gaze, âNeedy girl...so desperate for me."
walls flutter in response. Jake brushes your clit with his thumb and a jolt of pleasure courses through your veins. The movement draws you closer to him, folds dragging delightfully across his thigh to rut against his pulsing erection, you shudder at the unexpected sensation and he takes notice.
âFuck yourself on my thigh, sweetheart. Get yourself all nice and ready for my cock,â Jake instructs lowly against the crook of your shoulder as he withdraws his fingers from your warm core, âYou need to be dripping before I fuck you.â
Nervously you obey, hips rocking gently against the fabric of his pants. You have no doubt that those pants are expensive, but you can't seem to care, and neither can he. Your breathing is heavy as you pick up your pace. Jake's hands lock on your waist, firmly guiding your motions with bruising force.
âThat's it,â he groans into your ear, tongue sneaking past his lips to trace the shell of it, âdoing so well...getting your perfect pussy all sloppy...I can feel it begging to be filled,â a moan rips through you at his words, âYouâd like that, sweetheart? wanna be filled with my cock...filled with my cum...filled with my baby?â
Your eyes flutter shut at his words. He'd heard the conversation you were having earlier.
Your head slams back against the wall, and heâs quick to clamp a hand over your mouth as your orgasm rips through your body.
Jake doesnât give you a second to compose yourself, quickly freeing his needy cock from the restraints of his pants. He capitalizes on your delirious state, brushing the sensitive region with his member and eliciting wanton moans from deep in your chest.
â...want everyone to know who fucks you this good, want them to watch as you swell with my child,â he rambles as he continues to drag his cock against your dripping folds, collecting the remnants of your climax and coating his skin, âgonna look so pretty when youâre so full of me.â
you whine and push your hips toward him, trying to glean some kind of reprieve, âplease donât tease. I need you too much. just please fuck me already."
âNot so cocky now, are you?â he questions between groans and whines.
âShut up and fuck me,â you growl, hand wrapping around his base to guide him to your entrance.
And he does. hard and fast. His hips snap against yours with a force that will surely see bruises blooming on your skin by the morning. Blood pricks from where your teeth have sunk in deeply to keep whines and whimpers at bay. Jake's head dips low into the crook of your shoulder, forehead resting against you as he chases release.
âJesus christ,â you hiss as your walls flutter against his cock when his thumb brushes over your swollen clit, hips lifting away from the wall.
Jake pulls away from your neck to stare into your eyes. after a few blissful thrusts, his attention shifts to your exposed chest. The sleeves of your dress now resting below your shoulders, having fallen in the chaos.
The fading afternoon sun rains down like a spotlight, illuminating the sight.
His left hand slides away from your stomach to knead at your chest. âI can't wait to watch these get heavy,â he growls, leaning down to tug your hardened nipple between his teeth.
âJake...â you grit under your breath, acutely aware of the party carrying on just around the corner.
He snaps his hips hard against you, his thick head brushing against your most sensitive spot. Your pussy clenches and the coil twisting in your abdomen tightens, âcâmon, sweetheart, cum for me.â
Something explodes within you and it takes every shred of self-control you have left not to scream. Instead, you sink your teeth in Jake's shoulder. He hisses, but the pain only encourages his movements. His cock throbs feverishly inside you as he drives himself over the edge not long after you.
Jake holds you against the wall, transfixed by the sight in front of him. While he made sure to empty himself deep inside of you, a few drops now seep out from between your swollen folds. His eyes briefly flick to yours before he collects the escaping liquid onto his fingers before pushing them inside of you.

Waiting for time off was probably the longest wait Jake had decided. Especially since he had two weeks off to look forward to, spending it with just his family.
Closing his eyes for a minute, Jake sighed, rubbing his temples as his head started to pound with a headache.
His first three days in work that week were intense. He had been so busy dealing with any Trump news or his idiocy that Jake had lost more sleep than he had after the last few months.
âYou couldnât look happier,â John chuckled, walking into the younger mans office.
Jake opened his eyes again, smiling at his friend. He was glad to be back, but it was hard settling into his routine again.
âYeah well, it helps that Iâm walking into a load of Trump shit,â Jake said, digging through his drawers and finding his tablets inside, he hoped this would ease the headache.
âYeah well, itâs just the job. How are the family doing?â John asked, taking a seat in front of Jakeâs desk as the younger man shuffled some papers around.
John took note of the pictures now scattered across his desk in frames. Ones of him and his wife replaced with those of a family of three.
âGreat, Noah is growing every day,â Jake said, a proud smile on his face as he thought about his little boy.
Noah had been born ten months ago, after two years of marriage. Jake and his wife decided that it was time they had a baby and started their family.
Jake was proud of everything he accomplished, and insanely proud of his wife and everything she did, but now that he was a father, he had a new found sense of the word proud.
The tiniest thing had Jake feeling like he could burst. His son had started crawling properly not too long ago, and Jake had the moment documented like nothing else.
***
The day only seemed to drag on for Jake when they started some sort of special coverage. His only saving grace was handing over to New York for the better part of twenty minutes.
âIâll be in my office if anyone needs me,â Jake sighed, leaving the desk and moving towards his office, fully intent on calling his wife to calm himself down.
He wasnât even angry or anything at the new senate race, but he was exhausted and starting to get frustrated the longer the day went on.
âOh, well daddy doesnât look very happy,â your voice broke Jake from his thoughts while he stopped just inside the doorway of his office.
His smile, the one you loved so much, immediately stretched across his lips when he saw you and Noah sitting on the couch in his office.
âWhat are you two doing here?â Jake asked, reaching out for you. His hands cupped your cheeks, kissing your lips while his son smacked at his forearm.
Jake chuckled at the baby. He pecked your lips again, pulling back to look at his son. His mini him. Deep brown eyes, brown hair and his little nose, they all matched his father. You were more than displeased considering you had carried him and given birth to him.
You couldnât help your smile as Jake took the infant in his arms, cuddling him to his broad chest.
âA little bird told me you were having a bad day,â You smile, remembering the phone call you had received from John only about an hour and a half earlier.
âIâm just tired,â Jake shook his head, not wanting his wife to worry about him at all. He didnât need to worry you.
But being his wife, and worrying about him anyway. You frowned, your hand coming to rest on the back of his head. You carded your fingers through his short locks softly, not wanting to mess up the hair style.
âI told you not to stay up writing those pieces. You had loads,â You scolded lightly, almost disgusted with finding your husband lying over his desk, half asleep at his computer. For the fifth night in a row.
âI know, Iâll listen in future,â Jake answered, but the look on your face let him know you didnât believe him. And he knew he wasnât being honest either.
The couple sat in silence for awhile, you watched Jake smother your infant with kisses, Noah shrieking and laughing when Jake blew raspberries on his cheek. They both made you so, indescribably happy.
âYour hair looks good today,â you mumbled, looking at his greying locks, combed back off of his face.
Jake looked at you, a small glint in his eyes after hearing your childâs giggles directed at him. Your son never failed to make him smile.
âYou think? I was about to get more mad at how grey I am,â Jake chuckled. He had began greying at the end of his forties, and you stayed as transfixed by him despite the premature greying.
âNo, you look great, you always do,â you reassured, kissing his cheek. You hadnât told Jake, but you preferred his grey hair, you didnât know why. You assumed it was the way it was no longer flat against his head.
âTrust you to boost my ego,â Jake laughed, shifting his hold on Noah while the infant started to get a little agitated.
âOh I am nothing if not supportive, darling,â you smile, brushing your fingers through your sons light smattering of hair on his head.
It was already the same shade as Jakeâs brown hair and you had frowned again as your son proved to become more and more like his father.
A knock on the door brought the small family out of their serene surroundings. A young intern stood in the threshold of the door.
âHey, sorry to interrupt Jake, we need you back,â
Jake sighed, thanking him before he dismissed him and looked back at you.
âWeâll stay around for awhile, think Noah is getting mad that youâre not at home today,â
***
You and Noah had been sitting in the control room watching Jake for his part of the coverage, and you had noted your husbands slightly more cheery mood at the fact that his son had been in his arms only forty- five minutes ago.
When he passed over to Anderson in New York again, this time the break lasting near forty minutes, Jake was up and walking to the control room to get you two.
Taking Noah in his arms, he led you to the studio where Dana, Abby, John and Wolf were all gathered around the desk. Any work talk ceased the minute they heard the infants babbling.
âOh my god! Look at him!â Dana gushed, smiling at the baby while Jake walked back around the desk, his smile never fading from his lips.
You hung back a little until Johnâs large hand brought you forward. He hugged you right against his chest, missing you after not seeing you in a few weeks.
You were close with nearly all of Jakeâs colleagues. They had been so welcoming when he introduced you nearly five years ago. They were impossible not to get on with.
âHe looks just like you,â Wolf smiled, resuming the faces he was making at the baby which only made your son squeal and laugh.
âHold on, let me get Kaitlin on FaceTime, sheâll hate missing him,â Abby said, picking up her phone and dialling Kaitlinâs contact.
You smiled at the group, all of them intently listening to Jake tell them how much Noah was starting to learn, how his little personality was starting to develop.
âNo way! Come on how did I miss him?â Kaitlinâs voice tore the group away from the baby to the phone Abby now had leaning on Jakeâs laptop.
âYouâre more than welcome to visit anytime, you know that,â Jake laughed, holding the baby up for his colleague to see as she stood outside the White House.
âGood, I need his cuddles again,â Kaitlin pouted, a smile covering her lips when Noah grabbed Abbyâs phone and held it up.
âOkay, letâs give that back before mommy and daddy have to buy a new phone,â you said, panicked as you watched your son fling Abbyâs phone around in his hand.
The other woman didnât even seem phased while Kaitlin remained pouting on the phone screen.
âWhoâs he more like personality wise?â John asked, smiling at the baby who was grabbing Johnâs large finger in his tiny fist.
John was reminded of when his youngest was just a baby, grabbing at everything and curios about anything he got his hands on.
âMe. Much to my other halfâs distaste,â Jake joked, winking at his wife. You rolled your eyes at her husband.
âHeâs exactly like Jake. So laid back with everything,â You mumbled, reaching forward and beginning to take the small hoodie off of your son when you saw his flushed cheeks.
âHe fell off the couch the other day and lay on the floor staring up at us just waiting for us to pick him up. He didnât even seem to care about what happened,â Jake almost seemed proud of that fact and his wife was far less.
Noah had smacked his head off of the table, both Jake and yourself had paused waiting for some sort of outcry but Noahâs brown eyes just gazed up at you both.
Jake had his hand on your knee, trying to pause the panic you were inevitably feeling. All the while, Noahâs eyes just seemed to say, âare you going to pick me up or not?â, so Jake did.
âNot a good thing, Jacob,â you scolded, to which your husband replied with his boyish smile, grinning at you in a fashion you were only accustomed to seeing around your son and yourself.
You stood back from your boys again, watching Jake as his face beamed with pride, showing off your babbling infant like he was the best accomplishment in his life. And he was. Well, apart from Jakeâs marriage to you, Noah was his greatest achievement.
That night, Jake documented yet another thing in his sons baby book. âFirst visit to dads officeâ.
