what are the rules for submitting a confession?

Ok yea ik that's not an original argument or anything. But I have physics exam in a few days and it's making me so frustrated I need to find new ways of venting.

Dexer:

Oh yea the fan favorite. The blonde gay guy inlove with his straight best friend who eventually somehow turns out to not be so straight and they get together through the help of their friends. HOW ORIGINAL!! Definitely didn't see that one MULTIPLE TIMES.

Dexer is so boring to me man I'm not kidding. The only thing that could've made them interesting is exer having magic, but it literally doesn't matter for their relationship. David had no hard feelings for exer keeping such a huge secret, it was literally brushed off in the same day in canon.

David seeing exer's magic COULD'VE been interesting but it's only used for fan service and showing how strong their relationship is. The only thing that could make me care about their relationship is Diary trying to fuck them over but they literally solve every single problem withing less than second (the crash out I'll have if they take a few eps to solve diary's entry about exer not being able to be physically near David..💀). Every single plot that could make them remotely interesting- or at least more original is VOID.

Kenda:

I cannot get over Brenda being confused about her feelings towards ken. She had a crush before. She's been in a whole ass relationship before. She CONFESSED FIRST. WHY is she confused NOW??

If I had to take a wild guess I'd say that paola is trying to bury brenda x exer under the dirt and playing if off like they never actually liked each other and their first reals crushes are their current romantic interests. And that's simply ANNOYING.

Another problem I have with kenda because most of my problems with it are about brenda. Is that it's her character's current focus.

Look brenda is actually pretty interesting. And she has ALOT of angst potential that could play for interesting storylines.

Her boyfriend lied to her and never told her about his magic powers. Her best friend told her (and the whole school) that her boyfriend has magic powers and she was right but brenda didn't believe her. Her ex best friend was literally bullied and isolated and she watched from the sidelines. Her brother is inlove with her ex (whom she still had some feelings for at the time!!) And she has to play matchmaker because 'That's what a good sister would do'. Her dad literally abused her brother and beat him up. Her dad NEVER cared about her. Her best friend and new crush like each other and she has to play matchmaker because 'That's what a good friend would do'.

Do you see what I mean?? Brenda has SO MUCH potential and the fact none of it was turned into actual plot line but the romance one is is PAINFUL. And the it had to come in the worst time (her brother was just abused) just rubs salt in the wound. AND I LIKE KENDA.

Ronothy:

NOTHING is going on with them beyond the the trope of 'soft gaint x short gremlin' without even fully committing to it. They have very limited screentime and personalities. I guess the only thing they have in common is that the plot keeps forgetting they exist.

Ok yea that's it. I won't go into another rant on jackela because I do that(in dms) SO MANY times already. Maybe I'll send another ask venting about them- maybe I won't.

i mean uh *ahem* I think Mai Okamoto is a very underrated character that deserved a bit more relevancy in season three, considering how much light was shed on Ken that season. It would've been real nice is all I'm saying

i still hold a grudge against this fandom for what they did to the 14 year old kid who wrote dexer porn on ao3 in 2023. there’s literally nothing wrong with what that kid wrote. they tagged their fic properly. they weren’t an adult sexualizing minors. he was literally just ... doing what a lot of teens do, which is being horny.

but the fandom? they sent him hate messages. so much. told him to khs. he almost did. I talked to him and we were good friends for a while, and he’s not a bad person. he was already dealing with being forcefully outed and abused at school, and then when he felt safe to share what he was experiencing (mlm desire, ykwim) you guys just … took that safe space away.

i’m not claiming everybody hurt him, of course, because a lot of us weren’t even in the fandom during the time that the fanfiction was posted (summer 2023), but i’ve only ever seen one ☝️ (1) other post defending him. I can’t even find the post. we need to stop being snowflakes. write more porn guys. it’s not that big of a deal. there’s like 4 smut fanfiction in this fandom on ao3, so we should take it up a notch, and i’m not kidding. I think we need more pwp, smut, and sexual content in this fandom. (and most fandoms even). it’s important for teens (and even adults!) to see examples of these situations. it’s what a lot of us will use as a guide to navigate those encounters. and with characters like tim, exer, jolie, and pamela, it’s important to see other people represented in all types of media, not just fluffy innocent fanfics. (although that’s important too!)

(this also connects to what other people have said (putting dexer on a pedestal, making them innocent angels), so yes I think everyone is the fandom should be aware of this. i could’ve worded this better but i’m just so frustrated)

so uh yeah that’s my scolding hot take for this fandom.

tldr: i think we need to relearn the rule of “don’t like, don’t read” because the lack of smut in this fandom is actually a bad thing. someone almost took their life because of the hate they got. please don’t let this happen again, we’re all just here because we like a silly webcomic story anyways
