Alfendi hated fireworks, he hated every single loud bang to be honest, since Forbodium loud sound maked him anxious as if Keelan Makepeace was going to shoot him again.
Katrielle entered the Mystery Room slamming the door and jumping toward Lucy, they both looked extatic.... Alfendi wasn't, he knew that today a big firework festival was going to happen near Big Ben, the girls were talking about it since the beggining of the week, they had been calling eachother everyday to organize the whole thing, talking about what time is the best to be in front, who could come with them, what snacks to bring ... He wanted to be part of the fun but he knew that as soon as the first firework would explode he would start to have panic attacks ... the sound of it remembering him of that dreadfull night so he just ignored the girls and went back to work. The girl were still talking about it when Lucy asked the dreaded question :
"- Do ya want to come with us prof ?"
He looked at her, she was smilling, he didn't really know what to answer to her, he wanted to tell her the truth but a loud voice in his head told him to "shut up I don't want her to know that we are a fucking coward". Kat was the one to break the silence
"-Al won't come he is scared of fireworks
Potty came on front and said
-I'm not scared you idiot ... I just don't like it ... and I don't have to justify myself to anybody especially you !!
-is this because of what happened 4 years ago ?
Alfendi was shocked, how did she understood so fast ? He didn't know what to say so he just nodded, Lucy looked at him and said
-ya know my pop did the war and he's also scared of fireworks, it's giving him flash-back of the bombs and gun getting shot.
Katrielle looked at her brother, he was shocked, she finally understood and said
-how could I have been so dumb ... of course it was that .... I'm sorry Al
Placid was back, he just sighed and said
-It's okay ... I would not have come anyway ... have fun tonight girls."
Lucy knew that Alfendi was lying she could feel it. This time she wasn't going to let him stay alone because of what happenned four years ago, she said with a determined look on her face
"- I know how to help ya come and have fun with us, the sound of the fireworks wont be a problem.
Both Kat and Al looked at Lucy with surprise, Alfendi was the one breaking the silence
- And how are you gonna do ? I'm very curious now.
-you'll see prof it's a surprise.
She winked at him, he wasn't convinced, Kat saw it and said with a big smile
- Let's make a bet : If Lucy and I manage to make you enjoy the firework with us you will have to invite both of us to eat in a restaurant of our choice.
- but if you can't ? What is in for me except a big panic attack and your two butts kicked by the other one ?
- Lucy and I will have to eat at Flora's house for a month.
Lucy looked confused, she didn't understood why eating at someone house was a bad thing but when she looked at Alfendi's face she understood that it was a bad thing, he said
- Make it two month and you have a deal."
Kat and Alfendi shook hands, Lucy looked confused but she also was happy that Alfendi was willing to do it.
After an hour Lucy finished her work and left the Mystery Room with Kat, they had some things to buy for tonight. Alfendi just went home to prepare himself, he was anxious, he asked himself why he had accepted the deal, Potty was insulting him so hard in his head but he couldn't blame him, he knew that the night was going to be horrible.
After some times Lucy and Katrielle were at the meetup point, they had everything, the snacks, the drinks and ... a bag that Lucy was holding tight, in this bag was the possible key to a perfect night and a delicious meal in a restaurant. Ten minutes later Alfendi arrived, he was wearing his signature stipped shirt and his hair down (witch was a pleasent surprise for Lucy who had never seen him without his ponytail), she noticed how anxious he was so she came to him and said :
"- Ya look good prof, with yer hair down like that it's a killer look.
He laughed a little bit then said
- Don't get used to it, I'm only keeping them down because we're not at work.
- Of course prof, are ya ready for the fireworks ?
- Of course not, I regret even accepting the offer but ... if I can see you and Kat eat at Flora's place for two month it might be worth it.
- How bad is the food at Flora's place ?
- Just imagine colliflowers and ice-cream with pasta mixed into a soup.
- Yup that is one of Flora's greatest receipes.
- Lucky for us we are going to win the bet.
- I hope you do, it would be sad to see you die from food poisoning."
Lucy looked at her watch, the firework was going to start really soon, she took her bag and asked
"- Prof could you bend down please ?
He sighed and bent down, Lucy grabbed something in her bag and putted it on his ear, it was noise canceling headphones, the best one on the market, at first Alfendi was confused but when he heard the silence around his he understood, he looked at Lucy she was getting a whiteboard out of her bag and wrote on it
The firework started and when the first one exploded Alfendi didn't heard a single sound, he was flabergasted, he forgot how beautiful fireworks were, Lucy and Kat looked at eachother and giggled they had made it, Alfendi was here with them and he was smiling, he was having a good time, Lucy took her whiteboard and wrote :
"Do you like it so far ?"
Alfendi answered while giving her a genuine smile.
"Yes thank you Lucy, you trully are an angel."
"You're welcome, you deserve to have fun after everything you had to go through"
Those words touched him in his heart, he was thinking about a way to thank her but nothing came ... except one idea.
- Lucy do you want me to carry you on my shoulders ?
She looked at him amused and wrote :
"Like a piggyback ride ?"
- Yes, you know since I'm tall you could see the spectacle from a higher perspective."
Two seconds later she was on Alfendi's shoulder, looking at the fireworks and laughing, for the first time in her life she was taller than everyone, the view was amazing. Alfendi was also laughing and enjoying the spectacle, for the first time in four years he felt normal, he was having fun with his best friend and his little sister, the voice in his head was silent, he was feeling good.
After the finale he helped Lucy get off his shoulder and took the headset off and said :
"- Thank you girls, I forgot how nice it was to feel like a normal human being.
Katrielle said while looking at her brother
-I do beleive you owe us a meal at a restaurant.
- You are right Kat so ... where do you want to eat ?
- The burger place next to the Yard.
- Yeah Lucy told me that they make the greatest burger of London.
-Okay ladies let's go then."
They walked together still laughing and feeling good, it was a good night, a night that they would never forget.
