“oh, okay.” jace actually smiled and felt himself relax a bit, she would be there the whole summer. she was stunning and he wanted nothing more than to show her he wasn’t always so shy and awkward. “i’m sure she’ll enjoy the company, she’s probably one of the nicest people i know. she deserves some good company.” 

jace nearly tripped over himself as he walked towards the house, turning back only when he heard the girls voice. “yeah, i live a few streets over.” he nodded and stopped in his tracks. “what about you? just visiting?” he wanted nothing more than for the conversation to be going. Silently he was hoping the girl was staying for the summer like so many other tourists did in his town. 

“yeah, thanks.” he looked back up to her and mustered up a small smile, making his way back into the center of the yard. “it’s nice to meet you by the way.” his words were rushed now, his confidence severely lacking. “yeah, i’ll definitely let you know, i’ll probably just change the lights out here and see what i need to help fix up the deck back here.” he looked behind him to where all of the work needed to get done. 

jace nearly fell over because of the abrupt stop in his tracks and his eyes glanced back up to the brunette girl in front of him. “y-yeah.” he stuttered again, trying his hardest to compose himself as he took deep breaths. “she usually leaves the back door unlocked if she isn’t going to be home.” he spoke quietly, his eyes now fixed on the floor, unable to look at her and speak properly. she was slowly but surely turning him into a complete idiot and she hadn’t even spoken ten sentences to him. “she asked me to come around and do a few repairs, and measure for the deck.” jace’s hand was rubbing the back of his neck nervously and he forced himself to look back up at the girl, giving her a smile. “i promise i’ll keep out of your way.”

jace was frozen, he couldn’t stop himself from staring at the brunette girl who stood from the lounge. he couldn’t hear anything that was coming out of her mouth, he was too busy taking in every small detail of her face. the dark haired boy was breathless and she was clearly incredibly angry at him. he shook his head and his brow furrowed, “i...i’m jace.” he spoke slowly, he had nearly forgotten his own name in her presence. the beautiful girl in front of him was making him so nervous he had to try a lot harder to put together a coherent sentence. “your granny?” he tilted his head to the side, he had never seen the girl before and it was a small town where everyone knew everyone and he didn’t know her; it was slightly disconcerting. “mrs. rosas is your grandma? i’m sorry, i-uh-i didn’t know she was having people over.” he took a step back. “i help around the house for her... you know...fixing things.” jace was tripping over almost every word that left his mouth. “i can uh....come back later.” he couldn’t bring himself to tear his eyes away from her soft brown ones. “yeah, i should do that...”

when jace moved into the backyard he could have sworn that he saw someone in the lounge chair, he stopped in his tracks. “mrs. rosas?"he called out afraid to disturb her, but he hadn’t seen her car out front. he had even called her earlier in the morning and she had mentioned she would be in town today. “is that you?” he waited patiently, almost afraid of who was going to pop up from the chair. “i can come back later if you want me too...”
