the only exception
THE ONLY EXCEPTION: you, a footballer for la liga mx femenil and la selección femenil, have never given love a chance. that is until you meet Declan rice, a footballer for arsenal and England's national team.
GRAYCEE SPEAKS: yay!!! declan!!! also, you could totally replace liga mx femenil/mexico for the reader, I just picked my favorites! enjoy! send in requests!
growing up, you'd learned two things.
one-
football never left.
two-
people always did.
your father let when you were nine. your first boyfriend cheated on you the week before your first senior national team camp. another swore he'd wait through tournaments, through time zones, through six-hour time differences. he didn't make it past the group stage.
so somewhere between your first liga mx femenil title and your thirtieth game for Mexico, you'd quietly decided love was for people with free weekends and normal jobs.
not for women who lived out of suitcases.
not for women whose calendars revolved around FIFA windows.
not for you.
whenever reporters asked why you were still single, you'd smile.
"I'm already in a committed relationship."
they'd laugh.
you'd shrug towards the crest over your heart.
"with football."
you weren't joking.
declan rice had heard about you long before he'd met you.
England's midfield engine.
Mexico's impossible number eight.
the woman who played very match like someone had personally offended her.
"you know she's terrifying," one of his teammates joked while they watched clips of an international friendly.
"she isn't terrifying."
"she tackled Marta so hard she apologized after."
"...that's polite."
"you're smiling."
"I'm appreciating good defending."
"right."
the first time you met, you were both ambassadors at a FIFA youth clinic in New York City.
you spent the first hour pretending the other didn't exist.
until one little girl wearing a Mexico jersey walked over holding two footballs.
"can you both sign these?"
you took one, he took the other.
the girl frowned, "no. can both of you sign both?"
Declan smiled first, "bossy."
"my mamĆ” says if you're going to ask for something, ask correctly."
you couldn't help it.
you laughed.
it wasn't loud.
barely more than a breath.
but it caught him completely off guard.
because everyone had warned him you were serious.
nobody mentioned your laugh.
friendship happened by accident.
you'd run into each other at awards ceremonies.
international tournaments.
sponsor shoots.
champions league matches.
every few months, the universe seemed determined to shove you into the same room.
you talked football.
always football.
recovery methods.
nutrition.
cleats.
never feelings.
never relationships.
it worked.
until one night after a charity match in London.
the rest of the players disappeared towards the hotel bar.
you stayed behind on the pitch, lying flat on your back in the center circle, staring at the lights.
Declan sat besides you.
"you coming?"
"no."
"they've got food."
"I'm not hungry."
silence.
"you do this often?" he asked.
"what?"
"lay on football pitches."
"they're quiet after everyone leaves."
he nodded, "I get that."
another long silence settled between you.
comfortable.
then-
"so..." he turned his head towards you. "you've never had a girlfriend? boyfriend? anyone?"
you snorted, "what?"
"you always dodge the question."
you folded your hands over your stomach.
"I don't date."
"by choice?"
"obviously."
"you've never met someone worth trying for?"
you stared at the lights until they blurred."
"I've met people."
"and?"
"they leave."
his chest tightened.
"so I stopped giving them the chance."
you said it like you were commenting on the weather. matter of fact and simple.
as if your heart had built walls so high even you couldn't see over them anymore.
declan looked away before you could catch the expression on his face.
because for the first time in years, he wanted to prove someone wrong. not because he needed a relationship. not because he thought love fixed people. but because the woman lying beside him genuinely believed she was easier to leave than to stay.
and somehow without even realizing it, he would become her only exception.
if anyone had asked either of you when things changed, neither of you would've had an answer.
there wasn't one moment.
no dramatic kiss in the rain.
no confession after a final.
just hundreds of little moments that, somehow, added up to something neither of you had planned.
your phone buzzed at 2:13 am.
"you awake?"
"jet lag."
three dots appeared almost instantly.
"same. we just landed. you watch that Barcelona match?"
you smiled despite yourself.
only Declan would text another footballer at two in the morning to discuss a match.
you spent the next hour arguing over tactics.
not once did either of you realize you'd been smiling at your phones the entire time.
it became routine after that.
different countries.
different time zones.
same conversation.
he'd send you pictures of gloomy London mornings with the caption,
"bet Mexico's prettier."
you'd send him photos of the sunrise before training.
"it is."
he'd send back:
"show-off"
when one you played before the other, the messages were always the same.
"good luck!"
"you'll do great!"
"don't get tackled too hard."
the last one usually came with an emoji.
the media noticed before either of you did.
it started with likes.
then comments.
then interviews.
"so..." a reporter asked after one of Mexico's friendlies, "England midfielder Declan Rice congratulated you on social media after your goal. are you friends?"
you shrugged.
"we both like football."
the reporter blinked.
"that's all...?"
"that's plenty."
the edits started a week later.
pictures of you two laughing during a FIFA event.
someone even made a ten minute compilation titled:
"Declan Rice looking at Mexico's number eight like she's the sun"
you refused to watch it.
your teammates did not.
at breakfast, one of them slid her phone across the table.
"he does look at you like that."
"I am begging all of you to find a hobby"
"our hobby is watching you ignore the nicest man alive."
you rolled your eyes.
"my hobby is winning football matches."
you kept him at arm's length.
not because you disliked him.
quite the opposite.
that was the problem.
one dinner after an awards ceremony became impossible to refuse.
"it's just food," he said.
"it sounds suspicious when you say it like that."
"it's literally pasta."
"it could still be a date."
he almost looked offended.
"I asked if you were hungry."
"you did."
"were you?"
"...yes."
"then it's dinner."
you sighed dramatically.
"I don't like how reasonable you are."
"I've been told it's one of my better qualities."
dinner became coffee.
coffee became walks through cities neither of you lived in.
sometimes you'd spend hours together without talking about anything important.
still...
neither of you called it dating.
one evening in Madrid, after meeting up during your overlapping breaks, you wandered through nearly empty streets with takeaway coffees warming your hands.
"you know," Declan said, "everyone thinks we're together."
you didn't look at him.
"they've thought that for months."
"you ever going to tell them they're wrong?"
"you seem awfully interested in my public relations strategy."
"I'm interested in your answer."
you stopped walking.
"so am i."
he frowned, "what?"
"my answer."
you looked down at your coffee cup.
"I don't know."
those three words terrified you more than they should have."
because you always knew.
you always had a plan.
a training schedule.
a five-year football goal.
but this?
this was uncharted territory.
"I told you," you said quietly, "I don't do relationships."
"I know."
"I mean it."
"I know."
"I leave for camp in five days."
"I know."
"I'll be gone for almost a month,"
"I know."
"my career comes first."
he smiled softly, "I know."
you finally looked up at him.
"aren't you going to argue?"
"no."
"why not?"
"because I don't want you to choose."
his answer caught you completely off guard.
"I don't want you to have to choose between me or football."
he stepped a little closer, close enough that your shoulders nearly brushed.
"I want to fit into the life you've already built."
you'd never heard anyone say that before.
every relationship you'd ever watched had been about sacrifice.
compromise.
choosing.
someone always had to lose.
but Declan wasn't asking you to give anything up.
he was simply asking if he could stand beside you while you chased the thing you loved most.
for the first time in years...
the walls you spent so long building didn't crack.
they opened.
just enough for one person to walk through.
"I've never been someone's first choice," you admitted, your voice barely above a whisper.
his expression softened.
"you won't have to wonder if you are with me."
your heart did something unfamiliar.
it wasn't dramatic.
it wasn't fireworks.
it wasn't the kind of love songs promised.
it was quieter than that.
safer.
like coming home after a long trip.
without really thinking, you reached for his hand.
not because you were ready. not because you suddenly believed in forever. but because for the first time... you wanted to see what happened if you stopped assuming everyone would leave.
his fingers slipped between yours so naturally it felt like they'd been waiting to do it all along.
neither of you said anything.
you didn't have to.
for now, walking hand in hand through the streets of Madrid were enough.
and somehow...
it felt like the beginning of something worth believing in.
been seeing an awful lot of robby hate on my dash so just in case anyone was wondering I LOVE MICHEAL ROVINAVITCH I think hes great I think hes an interesting character and I don't think hes evil as fuck like some people. okay yay I had to get that outta my system.

everyone's a star!
EVERYONE'S A STAR: one of the most controversial popstars in the world meets England's golden boy. what happens when they began running into each other?
GRAYCEE SPEAKS: my first Jude fic!!! he's actually one of my favs, so there will be more in the future!
the first time Jude bellingham saw you wasn't at an awards show.
or backstage.
or in some glamorous vip section.
it was three in the morning in a Madrid airport.
you were sitting cross-legged on the floor outside your gate, oversized headphones on, hoodie pulled over your hair, eating vending machine chips while your security team stood several feet away pretending not to know you.
he recognized you instantly. everyone did. you were impossibly not to.
three grammy wins before twenty-four.
sold out stadium tours.
number one albums.
the internet's favorite punching bag.
every week there was a new headline.
POP STAR STORMS OUT OF INTERVIEW
DIVA REFUSES TO TAKR PHOTOS WITH FANS
IS SHE THE MEANEST CELEBRITY?
Jude had never really believed any of it. mostly because you just looked tired. not glamorous. not intimidating. just exhausted.
one of your chips slipped from the bag. you stared at it for a second before sighing dramatically.
"...five second rule."
"you sure about that?"
the voice startled you. looking up, you found a tall man in a Real Madrid tracksuit standing a respectful distance away, hands tucked into his pockets.
"...depends."
"on?"
"whether anyone saw."
he looked around theatrically, "I won't tell."
you picked up the chip, "then we're good."
it should've ended there. instead, your flight got delayed.
then delayed again.
then cancelled.
somehow, six hours later, you and Jude were sitting on the airport floor sharing stale pretzels because every cafƩ had closed.
"you know what's funny?" you asked.
"what?"
"you probably think I'm awful."
Jude frowned, "why would I?"
you laughed, "have you been on the internet?"
"no."
"liar."
"I play for Real Madrid."
"so?"
"I learned not to read comments."
you looked at him for a long moment. like you were waiting for a punchline. it never came.
you met again by accident.
then again.
then enough times that it stopped feeling like an accident.
sometimes he'd leave training and find you hidden in the back corner of the same quiet cafƩ you're always at.
sometimes you'd show up with your laptop and sunglasses still on indoors because someone had recognized you three blocks away.
he never asked why people hated you.
you never asked what it was like to have an entire country sing "hey Jude" because of you.
one rainy afternoon, you finally broke the silence.
"I don't actually hate my fans."
he looked up from his coffee, "I know."
"they think I do."
"I know."
"I just..." you picked at the sleeve of your hoodie. "...I get anxious."
you hated admitting that.
hated how weak it sounded.
"I can't always stop and talk."
silence.
then-
"I've seen videos."
you stiffened.
here it comes.
"they're always from the middle."
"what?"
"the clips," he shrugged.
"there was one where people said you ignored a little girl."
your stomach dropped.
"I remember that."
"I watched the whole video."
"you did?"
"the girl asked for a hug. you hugged her after security moved everyone back."
you hadn't realized anyone had seen the full video.
"they cropped it."
"I know."
dating Jude Bellingham was impossible.
not emotionally.
logistically.
because every time you stepped outside together, someone had an opinion.
"she's using him!"
"he deserves better!"
"she's going to ruin his reputation!"
"the poor guy doesn't know she's toxic!"
you'd seen it all.
one night while laying on his apartment balcony overlooking Madrid, you asked the question you'd been carrying for months.
"...does it ever bother you?"
he turned his head.
"what?"
"what people say."
he was quiet.
then-
"they don't know you. they think they do. I know the girl who steals my hoodies because yours are somehow never warm enough. I know the girl who cries every time she hears an orchestra."
"...I do not."
"you absolutely do."
"I've done it only twice."
"three times."
"stop counting!"
"I know the girl who apologizes to spiders before putting them outside."
"they're living things."
"I know."
"I know the girl who sends voice messages instead of texting because she's convinced tone gets lost."
you looked away before he could see your eyes watering.
"and none of those people online..." he reached for your hand, "know any of that."
the first time the world saw you together wasn't a kiss.
it wasn't a date.
it wasn't even intentional.
Real Madrid had just won a dramatic match.
the stadium was roaring.
players were celebrating.
camera searched for families in the crowd.
instead, one broadcast caught something.
jude jogging towards the tunnel.
you waiting just outside of it with your hands shoved into one of his hoodies.
the second he saw you, the grin on his face changed.
it wasn't the polished smile he gave reporters.
or the triumphant one he wore after scoring.
it was softer, more relaxed.
like after ninety minutes under bright lights, the only person he wanted to find was the one the rest of the world kept insisting wasn't worth loving.
the tunnel was crowded with coaches, photographers, security, and family members trying to squeeze through the chaos.
when he reached you, neither of you spoke.
you simply held out a water bottle.
"figured you'd be thirsty."
he twisted the cap off and took a long drink before handing it back to you.
"you watched?"
"you played."
"as if that's an answer."
"it is."
he laughed quietly.
god, he missed your laugh.
not because he'd been gone long. because the last few weeks had been relentless. matches, your album release, and another round of headlines dissecting every expression on your face.
he'd watch reporters praise his leadership one night and wake up the next morning to strangers calling you every name under the sun because you'd declined an after-party to catch a flight.
he never understood how some people could be so certain about someone they'd never met.
"you okay?"
your voice pulled him back.
"just thinking"
"dangerous."
"for me or you?"
"both."
you nudged his shoulder, and for a second, it felt like the tunnel disappeared. no reporters, no flashing lights, no expectations. just you.
"you were amazing," you said softly.
"you don't have to say that."
"I'm saying it because it's true."
coming from anyone else, it'd sound like a compliment.
coming from you, it sounded like relief.
like every saint, tackle, and late-night recovery session had been worth it because you'd seen it.
not the goals.
the effort.
before he could answer, someone shouted his name.
"Jude!"
a photographer.
then another.
heads turned.
within seconds, lenses were pointed in your direction.
there it is.
the moment you'd both been avoiding.
you took a step back, giving him an out.
always making it easy for him to pretend you were just another friend.
it would've been simpler.
safer.
better for his image.
the club's media team certainly would've preferred it.
instead, Jude reached for your hand.
not dramatically.
not for show.
just naturally, as though letting go had never crossed his mind.
your eyes widened, "Jude-"
"it's okay."
"they're watching."
"I know."
"they're going to say things."
"they already do."
his thumb brushed across your knuckles.
"I can't control that."
the cameras clicked relentlessly.
tomorrow there would be headlines.
REAL MADRID STAR CONFIRMS RELATIONSHIP WITH CONTROVERSIAL POPSTAR
FANS DIVIDED OVER NEW COUPLE
IS THIS A DISTRACTION FOR MADRID?
he could already picture them.
he didn't care.
one reporter called out, "Jude! over here!"
another shouted your name.
questions came flying from every direction.
"are you two dating?"
"how long has this been going on?"
"did the club know?"
you instinctively lowered your head.
he hated that.
hated how every noise made you shrink.
so he did the only thing that mattered.
"ready to go home?"
you blinked.
"that's your answer?"
"it's the only one that matters."
a smiled tugged at your lips.
"the internet's going to lose its mind."
"they'll find something else to be angry about next week."
you laughed.
the genuine kind.
the one that never made it into interviews or carefully edited magazines.
as he intertwined your fingers with his and walked past every flashing camera without saying another word, something shifted.
not online.
the headlines would come.
the pictures would come.
the comments would be brutal.
but for the first time in a long time you realized you weren't walking into them alone.
the world could keep arguing over who you were.
Jude didn't need convincing.
he'd already met the girl behind the headlines.
and to him, she had always been the brightest star in the room.

CUANDO CASI TE OLVIDABA 2
[šfeaturing] Brian Gutierrez Ć f!reader
[šwarnings] slight mentions of alcohol, angst, very little fluff
[šdarling speaks] hiiiii dolls!!! Thank you for the encouragement on the writing enjoyyyyyyy!!!į„«į”
Brian woke up the next day feeling awful, he didnāt have practice today but he needed something to keep his mind off of you. You haunted his mind day and night ever since he got back from Chicago.
flashback
Brian sat in his friendās boat a drink resting in his hand and his phone on his lap, he had come back to Chicago to spend some time with family and friends before he had to return to GDL for the start of the season.
They were on a small boat party, he wanted you to be here. You were both in the same circle back home, although you were always all over the place, he wished and prayed that you would be here. He needed to see you, he wanted to see if you were genuinely at peace with your life now. If you were here, he prayed you werenāt happy, because that meant he would have to let you go.
The night went on, Brian kept looking at his phone it was now 11:42 pm and you still werenāt here. He was beginning to think that you were done with him, that you completely let go of the life you built with him. He let out a sigh and took a long sip of his drink, just as he was giving up he heard whistles and some slight yelling coming from the opposite direction.
Thatās when he saw you, there you were kissing the cheeks of all of your friends who were he with you. Your black lace-trim corset paired with the tiniest black mini shorts and your nude platform stilettos, you looked so captivating. You looked unreal, so beautiful and sexy.
Brian admired the way you captivated all of those around you. He was quickly taken out of his trance when you walked in his direction and before he could breathe you hugged him and placed a kiss on his cheek. He quickly hugged you back and returned the kiss, you were a dream.
āI watched your games, you played good.ā
Your soft voice made this dream a reality, he wasnāt imagining you. You were right here, with him.
āYou watched?ā
āIām Mexican Brian, why wouldnāt I? you all put up quite a fight.ā
āHow so?ā
āBrian. None of you were giving up, it was so amazing to see. I cried after you all lost. It wouldāve been amazing to see you guys make it farther.ā
āYeah well, things happen for a reason.ā
āI guess, keep going Bri. OjalĆ” un dĆa puedas ser el mas grande, como siempre lo soƱaste.ā
Before he could say another word to you, you basically disappeared into thin air. He didnāt see you for the rest of the night. He could hear you, and hear others talking to you but when he went towards it you werenāt there. Your laugh and voice overlapped in his head, you were haunting him.
Thatās when Brian left, when you got too close to his heart. He said goodbye to everyone but you were no longer there.
flashback ends
Brian couldnāt help himself. He wanted so badly to hold you and kiss you again, that night on the boat and that short conversation played in his head like a broken record every night. Brian stopped giving into his pride and he called you. It was early in the day but he needed you more than ever, he was tired of you haunting the narrative, he wanted you back in it. He called your number and it went straight to voicemail, he decided to call your second phone.
āBueno, quien es?ā
You were in MƩxico, he knew because your second phone only received calls when the line was activated.
āEs Brian.ā
āOh. Why are you calling?ā
āCome over.ā
āExcuse me?ā
You sounded offended. He didnāt mean to offend you, he just wanted you to hear him out.
āNot like that, I just need to see you please.ā
āYou know I canāt do that, Brian.ā
āPlease, I just want to know why. Please, Iāll leave you alone if you agree to see me and let us have our closure. Itās the least we both deserve, por favor mi hermosa.ā
He heard your small breaths on the other side of the line, he could picture you biting your nails from the nerves.
āOkay. Send me the location to your place. Iāll let you know when Iām out, Iām not going in there.ā
Before Brian could speak up you hung up, he sent you the location and all he got in return was a thumbs up emoji. Brian walked into the shower, the same shower where he helped you wash your back and where you both had shared intimate moments. Brian doubted that you would show up, that maybe you had only agreed to it because it meant you could end the conversation.
Brian got ready to see you again. He stared at the nightstand that hid your engagement ring in it and contemplated whether taking it was worth it. If telling you that he wanted to marry you was going to change your mind.
His phone went off and your number appeared with a text that told him that you were outside. He chose not to take the ring, just in case you both got back together one day. He would use it to ask you to marry him.
He walked out his front door and saw you outside his gate there you stood in A breezy striped strapless top paired with sleek seamāfront denim and a Gris Perle Ostrich Kelly Pochette and Hermes sandals. You were beautiful and classy, he walked towards the gate and opened it for you.
āI said I wasnāt going to come in.ā
āYou said the house, not the front lawn. Come on, get in the car Iāll take you somewhere.ā
āBrian,ā
āYou can walk away and go home if youād like. If not, get in the car.ā
You hesitantly walked into the lawn and made your way towards the car, he opened the door for you. You strapped your seatbelt on and waited for him to do the same.
After a long drive you both had arrived at a ranch. You saw the horses and was in awe,
āWhere did you bring me?ā
You got off the car to see what seemed to be a farm or a park, except it was a lot more secluded than a park should be, Brian extended his hand out for you to take. You took his hand and he began to lead you down an empty pathway, about five minutes into your walk you both stopped at a weeping willow tree.
āWhy are we here Brian?ā
āTo talk.ā
He held onto your hand tighter and then let go, you watched attentively as he opened the fallen leaves like it was a curtain and signaled for you to go inside.
āNo. What if thereās bugs?ā
āThereās bugs all over the world, come onā
Brian let out a chuckle as you humphed and hesitantly walked through the makeshift tree door. There was a bench placed under the tree, Brian took your hand and led you there to sit. You both sat in awkward silence and everytime you looked away Brian took it as an opportunity to look at you and vice versa.
āWhy did you leave just like that?ā
Brian spoke up, breaking the silence you both were just being consumed by.
āIām sorry.ā
You spoke dryly and with a trace of regret. You never wanted him to feel this way, when you made your choice you thought it wouldāve made him happier.
āNone of that bullshit, I just want to know how you came to that conclusion and why you didnāt see it worth enough fixing.ā
Brianās voice laced with desperation and anguish, he had loved you more than anything for the last four years, you two were doing so good, you were starting to move in to his home.
āYou just got so busy and occupied there was no place for me. You didnāt treat me as your priority. And everytime I tried to tell you how lonely I was beginning to feel you pushed me further away, Brian. I accepted it and built a life here, to fill the void you were leaving. But without you around, I saw how happy I was, and how happy you were. So I left.ā
Brian heard your explanation. All he wanted to do was take you in his arms and apologize a million times and more, he didnāt mean to make you feel that way. You were his priority, his everything, his life had gotten blurred in front of him and he shouldāve listened to you when you tried to fix it. But he didnāt and he lost you, losing you wasnāt worth any of the fame of money he once dreamed of.
āIām sorry. I shouldāve done better for you, and for us. I thought we were doing good, I thought you were happy-ā you cut him off and spoke up
āIt all happens for a reason. I was happy, I just could have been happier.ā
Brianās gaze fell on you, you nervously played with your gold bracelet, one that he had gifted you for one of your anniversaries.
āPlease, let me do better. Let me show you I can be better, just give me that opportunity, I promise you I wonāt disappoint you ever again.ā
Your gaze moved from your wrist right back to his, you could see the desperation written all over his face, his words and his movements. You placed your hand over his, you would be lying to yourself if you said that you didnāt miss him, but you knew you did the right thing by putting yourself first.
āBrian I put myself first when I left you, I didnāt want to but I knew that I had to. Actions speak louder than words. You can promise me the moon, but if I am not seeing or holding it in my hands then you donāt deserve to have me back in your life. You have got to man up, and earn it. You cannot beg for forgiveness or for me, you can only earn me.ā
You spoke firm and he listened attentively to you. It broke your heart saying those words to him, you knew you wanted to go back to him, but you also knew you couldnāt make him think that we he had done once would be okay to do again. You spoke up again
āIām willing to forgive you, for all the heartbreak you had me endure. And I do forgive you, Iām willing to try but only if you can show me that itāll be different this time. I love hard but I know when to leave.ā
Brian embraced your hand in his and brought it up to his mouth and placed several kisses on the back of your hand.
āIām gonna show you, I promise I am. Come to my next game please, not just for me but the guys miss having you around.ā
He soaked in the small laugh that slipped from your mouth, you hypnotized his very being.
āFine, Iāll go. Just no funny business and Iām not wearing your number, Iāll wear the colors. Those are my conditions. Now take me home, I have plans tonight.ā
You smiled at him, he stood up from his spot on the bench and took your hand in his again and you both walked back to the car. Brian wanted so badly to ask you what your plans were but he didnāt wish to scare you away. He opened the car door for you and closed it, you watched as he got in the car as well and buckled his seatbelt.
āWhatās your address?ā
Brian asked you as he handed you his phone so you could input your address, you typed it into the gps handing the phone back to him as he began to pull out of the parking lot.
After a half hour Brian arrived in your neighborhood he stopped in front of the gate.
āIāll see you later, gueroā
He watched in confusion as you unbuckled your seatbelt and got off the car. Brian rolled the window down and called out for you.
āYou could at least let me drop you off home safely.ā
He watched as you laughed and walked towards his window
āToo soon to let you know where I live now, you might come and find me.ā
āIām not a lunatic.ā
You both laughed softly as you placed a soft kiss on his cheek.
āSee you soon.ā
Brian went home thinking of you and your kiss the whole night. He felt the same way he did as a teenager when you came into his life, he promised himself that he would do everything in his power to win you back. To earn you, because you deserved a man not a boy.

JOIN MY TAGLIST!
the clock in the lecture hall reader 11:47 am.
you checked for what felt like the hundredth time.
not because you were worried about your finals, but because kickoff was at 3:00 pm.
three hours.
if everything went perfectly.
your professor glanced up from her desk.
"remember to check your work before turning it in."
normally, you would. today, your feet bounced impatiently beneath your chair.
you'd spent the last two weeks telling Brian the same thing.
"im so sorry"
"I have my final that day."
"there's no way I'll make it"
he'd smile every time.
"school comes first."
but you knew he'd been disappointed.
he always looked for you in the stands before every match.
always.
"finished?" your professor looked surprised as you set your exam on her desk. "you still have almost an hour."
"I know."
she flipped through the pages, "you answered everything."
"twice."
she smiled, "well... good luck."
"thank you!"
you were halfway across the lecture hall before she finished her sentence.
your backpack bounced against your shoulders as you sprinted across campus.
taxi.
airport shuttle.
another taxi.
every minute mattered.
you changed in the backseat, trading your UCLA sweatshirt for the jersey you'd secretly packed that morning.
the driver caught your reflection in the mirror and laughed.
"important game?"
"the most important."
"for you or him?"
you smiled to yourself, "both."
by the time you reached the stadium, warmups had already started.
your heart pounded as you hurried towards the entrance.
"name?"
you gave it and the attendant smiled.
"oh! his parents are already inside."
"perfect."
his mom spotted you first.
"there she is!"
she immediately wrapped you in a hug.
"I thought you had an exam, mija?"
"I finished early."
his dad laughed.
"I knew she'd find a way."
you grinned, "couldn't miss this one."
his mother squeezed your hand.
"don't tell him."
"I wasn't planning on it."
"we want to see his face."
you slipped into the empty seat beside them just as the teams lined up in the tunnel.
your heart raced. from here, you could see Brian standing with his teammates.
focused.
hands on his hips.
completely unaware that you were only a few sections away.
the anthem ended.
kickoff.
you'd watched hundred of his matches, but this one felt different.
every good pass made you smile.
every tackle made you flinch.
every time he got knocked down, you found yourself half-standing before he popped back up.
his mom laughed knowingly.
"you never get used to it."
"no."
"I don't think I ever will."
thirty-five minutes in, his team won possession near midfield.
the ball found Brian's feet.
he turned.
one defender.
then another.
the stadium rose to its feet.
"go!" his father shouted.
you barely realized you'd shouted the same thing.
Brian cut inside the box.
the keeper rushed forward.
he struck the ball low.
for one suspended second there was silence.
then, the net rippled.
goal.
the stadium exploded.
you jumped up so fast your knees slammed into the seat in front of you.
"yes!"
his mom threw both her hands into the air.
his dad was already yelling loud enough for half the stadium.
on the field, Brian took off running.
pure joy was written across his face.
he spread his arms wide, heading towards the family section like he always did.
he pointed towards the stands before throwing his head back.
then-
his eyes landed on you.
he stopped.
mid-celebration.
his expression shifted from excitement to complete disbelief. his mouth fell open.
you laughed, clapping your hands over your face.
"no way," you mouthed.
from the stands, you could practically read his lips.
"what?"
his teammates crashed into him before he could process it.
one ruffled his hair.
another wrapped an arm around his shoulders.
Brian kept looking past all of them.
staring straight at you.
you waved both hands dramatically,
his grin somehow got even bigger.
he pointed towards you then tapped the chivas' crest over his heart before blowing you a quick kiss.
the cameras caught every second.
the stadium roared even louder
his mother leaned over, "I've never seen him celebrate like that."
the rest of the match felt endless.
every few minutes, he'd glance towards the stands. just to make sure you were still there.
every time, you smiled and waved. he couldn't stop smiling back.
his teammates started teasing him.
you could tell just by the way they kept nudging him every time he looked at you.
the finally whistle couldn't come fast enough.
chivas won.
as the players shook hands, Brian barely waiting for the formalities.
he jogged towards the sideline, then started running.
security had just opened the family gate when he reached it.
you barely stepped through before he was already there,
"you lied!"
you laughed as he swept you off your feet, "I did."
"you said you couldn't come."
"I couldn't..."
you wrapped your arms around his neck, "unless I finished my final early."
he stared at you, "you finished your final early?"
"so I could be here. I turned it in an hour early."
"you what?"
"I may have sprinted across campus. I definitely changed clothes in the back of a taxi. I almost lost my backpack."
he laughed so hard he had to bury his face against your shoulder.
"you are insane."
"I know."
"you flew all the way here after an exam?"
"I wasn't going to miss you."
he held you tighter.
"I looked for you before kickoff."
"I know."
"I was disappointed."
"I know. I almost told you. but I wanted to see your face once you saw me."
he groaned dramatically, "so that's why you were hiding."
"it was worth it."

This is a completely random question, but are you a hockey fan perchance? Your username reminds me of Jamie Drysdale and I wanted to if that was on purpose. If not, ignore me! If so, thatās so cool! And would you write anything for NHL players in the future? Love your work!
yes I am!!! I made my account like 3 or 4 years ago when he played for the ducks, and I was like his biggest fan. I would totally write for hockey if someone sent requests in for it! Iāll add it to my list! Thank you š„¹š

Brian had horrible week, horrible day, horrible practice. His life was just horrible, he was unmotivated and distracted, he walked into his apartment and he used his free hand to shut and lock the door and dropped his duffle bag somewhere on the floor. He took his shoes off at the entrance and continued his way through his hallway. He ran both hands through his messy hair and only groaned.
It had been over six months or so since the both of you split up and it was hitting him more than ever. The loss during the World Cup made him realize that more than ever now, only you could bring him back up when he felt low. He was in over his head, the self-criticism was killing him as well as the criticism from the fans and media.
He had been so in his head and thinking of you he completely forgot you werenāt his anymore. Since he had been back at Chivas he would come home expecting you to have a cooked meal ready for him or seeing you taking a nap on his couch. Your absence was affecting him more than ever.
He walked into his bedroom and towards his closet where he looked for a sign of you somewhere, just to ease him up. His head kept repeating your reassuring words
āNo te agüites amor, youāll get better baby. Practice makes progress not perfect.ā
It wasnāt enough, his head immediately took him to the place where you left him. The argument that couldāve so easily been resolved but you walked away and left. From that point to the point where he got home and found all your belongings gone from his apartment, your only trace being a note.
āLo siento mi güero, te amo bastante. Ya no soy feliz contigo, youāve made me feel out of place in your life for too long now. Iām sorry things had to be this way, but if I waited any longer I know I would be stuck. Iām so sorry mi cielo, youāve lost me to a life of my own. Maybe in another life.ā
His mind got louder repeating all the memories he had of you. Your laughs, your words, your lies and your love. It spun his head around. As he rummaged through his closet he found a small royal blue box with gold accents, he reached for it and took it to bed with him.
He opened the box and calmed down at the sight. Pictures of you both, pictures of you that he took and loved, jewelry that you had lost on your visits here and he had found, even a fallen eyelash extension, Polaroids of you and even a small photo album of your quince. He looked through it, your beautiful smile and the beautiful purple dress that made your eyes so hypnotizing.
He kept taking out items from the box and admiring them until he found a letter you left for him the first time you slept over at his place in Guadalajara.
āMi cielo, yo te amoā
accompanied with a painted kiss and your signature
He smiled at the memory, the excitement he felt having you here. His heart broke once he remembered what once was and never will be again. He had ruined it bad, his distance from you ruined it. He got so stressed and overwhelmed with becoming the best he forgot about the amazing woman who supported him through it all.
You had been there from the very beginning of his career, supporting him as his friend and later as his girlfriend. Once he gained the fame his life got busier, he began to push you away to focus on his career. It shouldnāt have been that way, he shouldāve learned to balance himself.
You had just agreed to move in with him, you were slowly moving all your stuff into his apartment in GDL all the way from your hometown. He could only blame himself for your absence, you had built your life around him and he couldnāt even meet you halfway.
Brian shifted his energy from the memory box and into his nightstand. He opened the drawer and took out the purple velvet box, he opened it and in it was a engagement ring, the one he knew you would love and wear with pride.
He hadnāt realized how mentally checked out you already were, he hadnāt paid any attention. You were already slipping from his grasp and he was already planning to marry you. His heart broke again as it had done many night before when he looked at the ring you shouldāve been wearing.
Brian put away all the items and the ring and shoved them back into his closet. He walked out of his bedroom and into his kitchen to prepare himself a meal.
Brian was tired of swallowing his guilt and holding onto his pride, you leaving him was the hardest moment of his life, you meant everything to him. But he let that go trying to become the greatest. He laid in bed and picked up his phone to stalk your social media.
Your latest post contained a small dump of your new life, the one you had built without him. He would be lying if he didnāt say you looked beautiful. He scrolled through the post, a photo of you holding large amounts of money, a photo of you at a bar or party of some kind, and a photo of you smoking weed. You had captioned the post āweed doesnāt forget you.ā It felt like a knife to the heart, he didnāt mean to. He really didnāt, if only you knew that he wanted to marry you and have you all to himself again.
He had fucked up and was willing to fix it just to have you at arms length once again. He loved you more than life itself, he wasnāt going to text you though, you looked happy without him. And that killed him inside more than any loss or hate he could ever receive.
He looked through your highlights and saw how happy you were with your new friends. He could only hope that you hadnāt forgotten the love you had for him, or that you given your love to someone else. All he wanted was for you to come back to him.
[šdarling speaks] let me know if you would like a part two, Iām sorry for how short it is, itās 3 a.m rn. Feel free to send requests, I am looking to keep writing, love you dollsį°į°į°
