Jacqueline Driscoll, a detective with CPD and the newest member of the intelligence unit, had been assigned there by the commander, which made Hank Voight and the rest of the unit look at her with suspicion, thinking she had another reason to be there besides Jay. After she had been assigned to intelligence, Jay had researched her career and why she was there; he had found out that she had been with the gang unit for a few years, then she transferred to robbery-homicide, and then after a few problems with her old boss, she got transferred.
Jacqueline was in the academy with Jay, and they had an undeniable chemistry that led them to have a brief but passionate romance. It wasn't the right time, but they were right for each other, or so they thought.
A few years later, Jacqueline Driscoll moved on and got married to Sebastian Monroe, a now successful corporate lawyer. They met in court; she was testifying when she bumped into him in the hallway of the courthouse. He is every woman's dream man, a loving, caring, and supportive husband, and he loves her very much, and that's the reason he keeps complaining that she works too much, and maybe she could take some time off to go on those holidays to Italy that they had been postponing for years.
Jacqueline was in the intelligence bullpen. She had found out that morning that she now worked at the 21st district in the intelligence unit, which was a shock since she hadn't ordered her transfer, and nobody had told her who had ordered it. "May I help you?" Voight's voice was heard when he saw her sitting at one of the desks.
"Sargent Voight, hi, I'm Detective Jacqueline Driscoll. I was assigned to your unit; I just found out today," Jacqueline explained, because Voight's face was pure shock and anger
"No offense, Driscoll, but I choose my own team," Voight said as he walked to his office to answer the phone. That's when her eyes landed on Jay, who was across the room. It had been a few years since they had seen each other. "Jay, it's so good to see you; it's been a while."
"Jacky," Jay breathed her name before he could stop himself. The bullpen seemed to quiet down around them, the scratching of pens and the hum of the printers fading into background noise.
She looked different from how she had at the academy. The raw, eager edge was replaced by the polished, guarded confidence of a woman who had survived the gang unit and robbery-homicide. She was stunning, her presence striking a chord in him that he thought he'd muted years ago.
"It's good to see you, Jay," Jacky said, her voice steady, though her eyes held a flicker of the old fire that used to keep him up at night. "I didn't know you were up here."
"Yeah, well, things change," Jay said, clearing his throat and forcing his professional mask back on. He stepped closer, dropping his voice so that no one could overhear. "What are you doing here, Jacky? Seriously. Transfers to intelligence don't just happen on a random Tuesday because a commander feels generous."
Jacky matched his tone, leaning slightly against the edge of an empty desk. "If you're asking if I pulled strings, Halstead, don't flatter yourself. I woke up this morning; my boss told me that I... I was transferred here, and my locker was already cleared out. None could tell me who... ordered the transfer. I'm just as blind as Voight is."
Before Jay could push further for answers, Voight's office door slammed open.
"Everybody, this is Detective Driscoll. She's temporarily joining intelligence," Said Voight, as he left his office. By the look on his face, that phone call was related to her transfer. "Jin, why don't you take Detective Driscoll downstairs to your office and show her... I don't care what you show her."
"Right this way, Detective," Jin said, quickly gathering his tablet and gesturing toward the stairs, eager to get out of the line of fire.
While she was being ignored by Voight and the rest of the intelligence unit, Jacky got a call from her husband. She had forgotten to tell him that she had been transferred to the 21st district because he was supposed to pick her up to have lunch.
"Shit," she whispered as she saw Sebastian's name on the screen. "Hey baby, I'm so sorry I didn't call you sooner. I was trying to process that somebody transferred me to the 21st, and by the looks of it, my new boss hates me."
"Wait, what?!!" he sounded shocked. "Someone transferred you? Without your consent? Jacky, this is exactly what I'm talking about with CPD. They treat you like a pawn. You need to talk to the union, or better yet, let me call someone."
"No, Seb, don't," Jacky sighed, rubbing the bridge of her nose as she walked down the quiet hallway of the 21st District. "It's fine. It's the Intelligence Unit. It's a promotion, technically. It's just... messy. I'll see you at home, okay? I love you."
At the end of the shift, Jay found Hank Voight in his office. "Sarge, can I have a word with you? It's about Detective Driscoll." Just a few hours ago Hank had seen Jacky reach into her jacket pocket, her fingers brushing against the heavy, cool metal of her five-carat, emerald-cut diamond engagement ring. She had taken it off before entering the bullpen like she did every day before entering the district; she never liked flashing that kind of wealth. She slipped it onto her finger, the rock catching the harsh fluorescent light, a stark reminder of the safe, luxurious life Sebastian had built for her, and then she left.
"What do you know about her?" Voight said he looked curious about what Jay had to say. He leaned back in his leather chair. Jacqueline Driscoll looked vaguely familiar; he had never worked with her, but he had seen her face somewhere, and he didn't remember from where.
"Jacky... I mean, Detective Driscoll and I went to the academy together, we worked great together, and eventually became more than friends," Jay confessed. He sounded in love; he smiled like he hadn't in a long time. "She's a great detective. We worked together on a few cases a few years after the academy. She's smart, kind, tough on the outside and will do almost anything to find the truth. Some of the other detectives called her Jack."
That's when he remembered it was in the business magazine a few years ago; it was named the wedding of the year. Sebastian Monroe, the corporate lawyer who casually happened to be the youngest one to be named partner in the history of Chicago, had gotten married in a luxurious wedding in France almost 4 years ago.
"Monroe," Voight muttered, interrupting Jay's praise.
Jay blinked, caught off guard. "What?"
"Her last name isn't just Driscoll, Jay. It's Driscoll-Monroe," Voight said, a dark, calculating smirk pulling at the corner of his lips as he tapped his fingers against the armrest. "She's married to Sebastian Monroe. The guy who just successfully sued the city for twelve million dollars on that construction contract leak last month."
Jay's smile faltered, his posture instantly stiffening. "Yeah. They were dating the last time I saw her." He was never a fan of Sebastian Monroe dating Jacky, his Jacky.
When Jacky arrived home, the house was quiet, smelling of expensive cologne and the faint trace of a takeout dinner Sebastian had ordered. He was sitting on the edge of the bed, his tie loosened, looking exhausted from a day of corporate litigation and worrying about his wife.
Jacky didn't say a word. She kicked off her boots, shed her leather jacket, and slid one of Sebastian's crisp, white button-down shirts over her shoulders, leaving the buttons undone.
Jacqueline was leaning against the frame of the door, wearing Sebastian's shirt. "You're right, I have been working too much, and I've been neglecting you. I promise I will make it up to you," Jacqueline whispered as she straddled his lap, and then she kissed him deeply; her hands went to undo his dress pants, letting his thick cock free. She sank deeper into his member; the familiar feeling of being stretched out made her throw her head back with a loud moan. Sebastian groaned, his fingers digging into her hips, anchoring her as she began to move up and down on his cock, setting a demanding, heavy rhythm. She threw him down on the bed, his back lying flat against the mattress. He wasted no time in undoing the buttons of the shirt she was wearing. They rolled on the bed; he was now on top of her, the grip on her hips tightening as he moved faster.
Jacky's mind started to drift to six years ago, when she had been with Jay, back when they were 'just friends'; the sex was wild and passionate, they had done it in the storage supply closet, the back seat of her car, it had been the best sex she ever had until tonight.
Jacky threw her head back into the pillows as she felt him pound inside of her harder; her legs wrapped around his waist, her nails digging deep into those broad, toned shoulders. "You like that, don't you?" he whispered to her ear.
"God, y-yes, Seb," Jacky gasped, her voice thick and breathless against his neck.
"Look at me, Jacky," Sebastian murmured, his voice a low, gravelly command in her ear as his grip on her hips tightened, lifting her slightly to meet him stroke for stroke. He was breathing heavily, his chest pressed flush against her bare breasts, the undone white shirt flaring out around them on the mattress. "Tell me you're right here with me."
"I'm here," she cried out, her voice breaking into a ragged moan as she arched her back, the friction building to an unbearable, blinding peak. "Seb, please..." a loud, uninhibited scream ripped from her throat as her climax took over, tightly wrapping around his thick length. Sebastian let out a low growl, his muscles locking as he buried himself deep inside her one last time, spending himself completely as they collapsed together into the tangled sheets.
They stayed there for a few minutes until Jacky spoke again, "You know I love you, right?" Sebastian lay on his back, one arm securely wrapped around Jacky's shoulders, pulling her side against his bare chest. His other hand gently traced the expensive, five-carat emerald-cut diamond ring on her finger.
"I know," he said as he left a kiss on her forehead, "I just want you to take care of yourself." Jacky closed her eyes, her cheek resting over the steady, calm beat of his heart. She loved her husband. She loved the safety of his arms. She didn't want the day to end because that meant that she had to face the reality of her new job and the many obstacles to come her way.
