There he goes again, making with the grand smushy speeches that really know how to hit home and get her all sentimental. Buffy glances up and into Spike’s eyes, wearing a soft but blazing look and as she reaches out her right hand to cup one side of his face her voice catches in her throat a little, “Tell me about it.”

                 “That bad.” that confirmation comes mirthlessly. Seriously. Buffy wasn’t around the last time Wanda went postal, she can’t possibly realize how bad it can get. How scary that woman is. Vision’s a pacifier and, thus far, he’s kept her calm but, like everyone else, Faith’s worried off her ass over what’ll happen when the pacifier stops pacifying.

“Hey, I didn’t shut her out, man. Not even a call I can make. I’m just the muscle. Get on Fury’s dick about that. Alls I’m saying is the girl’s dangerous. Like, global destruction, psycho Willow, dangerous. Just gonna lay it out for you, B. My life? It’s finally a life. I’m getting married, for shit’s sake… if they launch Maximoff back into the fray and it all goes sideways? I got skin in this game. I’m not about to risk Banner over it. Think I won’t get real dangerous, real fast? Think again.”

“Meow. Remind me not to…” Wait a second! Did Buffy just hear that correctly? Because it sure as hell sounded a lot like marriage. You know, a term one would only use when they’re on their way to, well, getting married. And no way would her sister Slayer drop a bomb like that without so much as a flinch. Come to think of it, was Faith even the marrying type?

Buffy had always assumed not, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t taking this seriously, the mug her hands are wrapped around pressed faintly against her lips as her brows squish together in curiosity. When she finally lowers her coffee to speak she does so quizzically, but still shooting for casual, “That’s funny. For a second there it sounded like…”

Holy cow, there it is. Right there. The answer that’s been in front of her all this time, although Buffy was either too dumb or too caffeinated to realize it.

                “Look, I get that you guys are solid and this is a bitch to hear, but Will’s been cruisin’ for a brusin’ since The Incident. You know it, I know it. Hell, she knows it. Just saying, the girl needs a reality check but, hey. If you can get it done with an intervention? I mean, feel free.”

And, that’s about all she’s got in her. Doesn’t really wanna hear the heartfelt Scooby Privilege about just how hard it is to be excluded from the group — given her history with them, it’s best to take a fucking breath and let it go.

                     So, she does. Starts to slowly pull apart the orange roll on her plate, tearing off a little piece of fluff to stuff in her mouth and keep her from going off on the Willow thing. When Buffy asks about Wanda, she shrugs, “No, dude. Trust me. You don’t wanna mess with Maximoff. Girl’s powerful, yeah, but she’s like one french fry short of a Happy Meal. Seriously messed up — like I was. Same rage, man, but backed with power like I never saw before. Vision’s got her upstate, keepin’ her calm in the suburbs. Best let her live her life, keep her out of the city.”

“Gee, that bad?” Buffy sounds surprised, but it’s purely for effect. Of course she knew about Pietro - Wanda’s twin brother and how he died rescuing Clint and some young kid’s life. Everyone did. Buffy felt for her, but maybe Faith was right. Some personalities can’t be controlled and if they’re spiced with magicks (the likes of which the world has never seen) the second and smartest thing one can do is to isolate it. Willow taught her that.
