How would you describe your relationship?

Ivan: We have a very good relationship! There can be some misunderstanding, but we try to give way to each other. During training, when one of us is not in the mood or something is uncomfortable to perform, we stop and talk it out. We don’t have any drama or quarrels. Through all the years we’ve been skating together, we only had one loud quarrel, heard by our entire group.

Alexandra: It was the only time that you could even call it a quarrel. We calmly solve our issues together at all times. Vanya knows my character and I know his. We know when to speak and when to shut up. It’s easy for us to work together. When I first moved to Moscow, I lived with Vanya’s family for a while. His parents took care of me and I thank them so much for that! We were very young; I was only 11. We spent all our time together in the house and outside, playing snowballs, making snowmen!

Ivan: Sasha and I have trained together for 12 years, which is half a lifetime for us… So we know each other perfectly well; when to talk and when to leave things unsaid, when to support and when to remain silent. That’s why our relationship is so good.

Alexandra: After vacations, when we haven’t seen each other for a while, Ivan tells me: “Oh, I missed you so much!”, then I feel very happy! I can’t imagine someone else saying that to his partner.

Looking at you, it seems that Sasha is always very hard on herself and Ivan never gives up.

Sasha: Yes, in principle, I was forced to smile since childhood. Irina Zhuk, in particular, was often unhappy that I did not smile. I’m not naturally friendly. Therefore, it may seem to some people that I am some kind of evil or something else… And when we make mistakes, I worry about it very much. Unfortunately, I cannot cope with my emotions. At the same time, I understand that I need to work on this because later, when I look at the photos, I think: “Damn, Sash, this is ugly.”

Ivan: You know, in reality, Sasha is the optimist between us. I am always tough on myself, my mistakes, and think about it a lot. Immediately after the performance, we do not understand. Only when we have already received the marks and analyzed it, comes an understanding - where we made a mistake or did something wrong. After that, I constantly get upset because I am an emotional person… And Sasha comes up and says: “Van, why are you upset? Let’s work!“

Sasha: And Vanya immediately comes to his senses. I will always find the right words to make him smile…

What life of a person would you like to live at least one day?

Ivan: I really like the way Leonardo DiCaprio carries himself. I’m always in the moment when he plays a role. How he lives, what he feels… It is very interesting.

Sasha: I don’t know…

Ivan: Vera Brezhneva.

Sasha: Well, of course! Vera Brezhneva!

Ivan: See, I know better than her!

Sasha: Not that I would like to live her life, but this is a woman I look up to. All her talents, merit, image, the way she presents herself… I really like it all.

What is a perfect evening for you?

Sasha: When I’m tired, the perfect evening for me is a walk through Moscow. The lights just light up and everything is beautiful. I am madly in love with Moscow, especially at night. Sit somewhere with coffee and a beautiful view - perfect.

Ivan: As a child, we often went to shows with Natalia Bestemianova in Korea… And, oh my, what delicious food there is! A Korean restaurant recently opened in Moscow, and now, I practically live there. I like the way they cook, the atmosphere. We often go there with friends. Winter nights with friends in this restaurant - very cool.
