So What?

Scarlett rarely was shocked by her own behavior. After all she knew herself the best right? Still when she looked over at his hand it was quite clear something had happened. 

The even fucking matched. If she wasn’t having a crisis she might have laughed.

But she had no idea why she would have done this even while drunk. It wasn’t something she’d ever wanted to happen and although she’d confessed that she liked Ivan - hell said I love you she hadn’t even slept with him.

Still it was at least comforting to note that he looked as panicked as herself. 

“Holy shit. It might- be a prank? Sybil was with us last night. She’d think this was hilarious. Like there’s no way - I mean it can’t be legal can it? Wait shit what do you remember. Let’s try to figure this out.” Scar sat up in the bed trying to figure out what the hell could have happened. 

Despite feeling like the world had just turned itself onto a different axis when Scarlett sat up Ivan couldn’t help but be distracted, too busy staring at her to be able to think cohesively for several moments.  But then her ring entered his vision and he shook his head, reaching up to cradle it a second later.

“Barely anything.  I remember arriving and being convinced I had to catch up with you in drinks.  And I remember at one point we were on the dance floor, I think Kai poured a shot into your mouth too.  But that’s it - total blankness after that,” he started, his grip tightening around the blanket.  “Fuck human vessels, they can’t hold their fucking alcohol.”

He released his hands then, because the tighter they twisted around the bedding the more he felt the gold band sitting on his finger.  What the fuck.  He hoped that it was just one of Sybil’s pranks; he had lived for over two thousand years without the slighest inclination of getting married - he didn’t see why that would change now.

“Text Sybil.  Ask her what the fuck happened.”

This was it. This was her death. Adrenaline raged through her veins, a feeling unlike she’d had for thousands of years, and like the Patroclus she claimed to be, there was a sudden, ancient knowledge that flushed through her, the memory of felling enemies by the hundreds on the battlefields of Troy.

His swiftness caught her briefly offguard – this body was certainly not accustomed to speed – but she raised the iron, hearing the clank of the thin blade against it. She jumped back, striking at him with the farthest end of the makeshift staff.

It said a lot about the warrior’s prowess the fact that she had managed to block his attack, and as she jumped and swung Meolar didn’t have the time to retreat far enough back to avoid the iron, feeling the scrape of it as he snagged his skin.  Ah, how he did hate scars.

Scar groaned as she was prevented from going back to sleep. After all there was very few things that she cared about when she was this hungover.  Still she didn’t fight him taking her wrist.

“Honestly what are you - fuck.” That’s when she spotted the second ring. She hadn’t realized it because she had always had a ring on her left hand, mostly because she was used to playing guitar and it was easier to put her day ring on that hand. But the gold band - it was new and it meant.

“Oh fuck. You don’t have one do you? God damn it.” Scar was fully awake now, although her voice was still low. “Shit I don’t remember anything about last night.” 

Ivan let go of her wrist when she had clued in to his inclination, though her shock at the sight of it didn’t do anything to help calm him - he had been hoping she would be a little more put together and have an explaination for what he was looking at.  But then again a ring wouldn’t have got on his finger, let alone hers if she knew what was happening.

He didn’t bother to answer her question, simply lifting up his own left hand and holding it near to hers, both so she could see the ring on his finger and to note that they were matching.  “Neither do I.”

It was like the image of both rings together was the final wake up call.  He hadn’t run off and done something stupid with anyone else.  No, they had been stupid together.  “I think we’re married.”

Scar was her normal curled up ball sleeping like - well the dead. She idly could feel the moment of the person in the bed with her, but paid it no mind.

It wasn’t until a few moments later when someone was calling her name she fluttered her eyes open - then realizing who it was bolted up. “Shit -ah fuck.” She said holding onto her head. It was then she realized that she didn’t have any clothes on and that she had been out last night. 

“Damn it Ivan you made me think something horrible happened. Go back to sleep. Jesus Christ.” She went to throw the blankets over her. After all it wasn’t like she was a stranger to having sex with people, and to be fair they had already admitted they had feelings for each other. It really wasn’t a big deal and she refused to make it one.

With his cry she had bolted upright and was obviously feeling just as bad as him as she cradled her head.  Ivan stared at her, even in his shock unable to stop his eyes roaming over her naked form.  Clearly he wasted too much time because then she was scalding him and making to settle back down.

His hand shot out though, stopping her from rolling over and going back to sleep and he managed a small shake of his head - one that wouldn’t upset it too much.  “Something ho- no, big, fucking big has happened Scar.  And I’m not talking about me,” he started, reaching over to clasp his hand around her wrist.

Scar’s hands ended up back at his collar as she went on her tip toes. She smiled up at him when he looked around. It was a soft smile, something Scar usually reserved for people in her family. When she untangled Kai’s hair, or pulled Lizzie into a hug. 

It wasn’t hitting her what she was doing, even as she slipped the ring onto Ivan’s finger. She’d leaned over and kissed Sybil on the cheek with a thank you, and now she stared at the ring on Ivan’s hand.

She thought for a second what they had done, but she pushed it back. After all it didn’t matter in the moment. What mattered was that she was smiling and so was Ivan.

Gently he took the ring that Sybil handed him and taking Scarlett’s left hand in his he slid the ring onto her finger.  He couldn’t help but grin as he did so - it was the first time he had ever done this.  Sure, there had been vessels who were in relationships, but they had already been married when he entered it.  That or he dumped the other on their ass if he felt he was going to be there for a longer spell.

But this - this was all him and it made his heart claw its way into his throat.  He was grinning unashamedly now and it didn’t matter whether this had come about while he could barely stand.  The point was it had.
