Okay, actually that’s a lie. If you want THE Avengers (i.e. the team headed by Captain America and Iron Man) you’ll want Avengers which is twice-monthly and #16 comes out on Wednesday. There’s about 1000 Avengers now, so it’s likely that you’ll only recognize a few members—they recruit them through the first few issues.
Avengers Assemble is more like the MCU universe, and is currently in the middle of a crossover arc with Captain Marvel (The Enemy Within #1, AA #16 & #17, CM #13 & #14, irrc). Usually pretty entertaining, and if you grab Kelly Sue’s first two issues, you get Tony (plus Thor) vs. Bruce (plus Spider-Woman) in a really funny science-off (also naked Tony & Hulk).
New Avengers is now the Illuminati or something, IDK I’m not reading it, it seems weird.
A+X (aka Avengers + X-Men) isn’t a team book, per se, and doesn’t really have a continuous storyline. It’s two mini stories each issue, pairing up an Avenger with an X-Men. You should look for #8 which is Hawkeye + Deadpool and Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat) + Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman). (Also #6 which has Carol Danvers and Wolverine cracking jokes at each other.) Usually, I just take a look and see if the characters in one of the team-ups interest me.
Avengers Arena is another one I’m not reading, because they’re killing off bb!superheroes and I don’t like that.
You probably know about Secret Avengers, which just released #6 last week, because it’s got Clint and Coulson and also scones (and Bobbi being a badass and making fun of Clint a lot). The creepy mind control-esque stuff is less gross than in the first few issues.
It’s not an Avengers book, but Tony Stark is currently in space with the Guardians of the Galaxy (and getting it on with Gamora, apparently!) so that might be of interest?
Young Avengers is pretty freaking awesome, and stars Hawkeye the younger aka Kate Bishop. Definitely recommend picking this one up. Issue #6, which came out last week, is a good starting point.
There’s also Avengers A.I. (#1 was last wee) and Dark Avengers, neither of which I read, so I don’t have an opinion.
