It Sounds Like OA

I don’t thing that “ding ding” in the trailer is a train. I think it’s a sound you hear at the docks. A nautical bell.

I think this supports the feeling of a place of transition, of passing through, of uncertainty and of yearning for safety & reaching out for shore (be it metaphorical or literal…or both).

I think it’s significant to point out there are sounds that are both above water (drips, waves, birds, nautical bell) and also underwater. There is also a humming sound at the end that reminds me of Hap’s NDE device.

A user on Reddit pointed out that the Golden Gate bridge appears to be in Homer’s nde but look where else it appears…

Its completely possible that this song was added in because it sounds nice and fits @lilskeletonprince ‘s voice well, but listening to the lyrics I managed to make quite a few links to the show

Representation: Trans male, character of color

Their Importance: Buck Vu is a representation of trans people that is usually not seen in media. Most media will pick fun of trans people, while characters in the OA (with the exception of Buck’s father) don’t make a big deal, or any deal out of the fact that Buck is trans. Not to mention, he is a trans character of color, an Asian trans character nonetheless, who is portrayed as not only a very important character, but a character with a personality outside from being trans. The fact that he is pre/beginning to transition is really powerful too. Usually in media we see a lot of transitioned, older trans people, and to have younger trans characters who might not look 100% cis is great. It shows that there is no wrong way to be trans. Personally, for me, Buck Vu is my number 1 trans icon, and I will always look up to him as he made me feel so right with myself as the person that he is.
