jobe’s family and yours were always close and you grew up with him and his brother. being neighbors was always the best. you’d walk home from school with both of them, spend holidays together, sneak out just to play football, and your favorite thing to do was talk to jobe from your window at night when you two should have been asleep.

you both talked for hours and hours, in the end it probably added up to years of talking. you always had a soft spot for him, as he did for you. it was the same with jude, but you did feel a little different when you were with jobe, especially alone.

when jude’s career blew up you and jobe would go to every single day to his games. jude would always tease you two and say you looked like a couple, the internet thought so too at first.

you always brushed it off, laughing, but never denying it. jobe would get all gushy too, but he would deny it everytime, which is why you always thought it would never happen.

you never had a boyfriend either, or a crush honestly. you only had eyes for jobe. that was until one of jobe’s close friends told him he had a crush on you and to get you two together.

you only heard the story because of jude, but he said that jobe was so angry in a jealous way and told the boy to “fuck off.” when jude told you this he wiggled his eyebrows, indicating that jobe probably likes youx except you ended up not doing anything about it for months.

until one night you and jobe were back at your childhood homes for the holiday’s and were talking while poking both your heads out the windows. you were both giggling too much and told eachother to “shut up.”

jobe told you to meet him outside and bring your bike. you made a face since you both had cars now, and there was buses available, but didn’t question it. you grabbed a coat and quietly walked out your house, locking the door and grabbing your bike from the garage.

you met him half way between your house and his. he had his childhood, bright blue bike that had frills on the sides. you couldn’t help but laugh and he nudged you telling you to stop.

he got on the bike and you just followed behind with no idea where he was going. he ended up leading you to an old creek only you two knew about when you were younger.

you smiled to yourself, feeling good that he remembered. you spent the night talking about dumb stuff and old memories. when he spouted out that he loved you. you said you loved him back, but he meant he actually loved you.

since then you two haven’t been seen apart family-and-friends-wise. you’ve kept it secret from the public for months now, and finally jobe made a cute photodump which he rarely does and included you without asking.

you had only meant to look at a few replies after jobe uploaded the post, thinking most people would be happy for him and supportive of the moment. you stare at the blanket in your lap while your thoughts keep replaying the words you saw.

the comments had started normal before they turned into people judging you, calling you annoying, accusing you of trying too hard, and picking apart everything about you. you rub your thumb against the edge of the blanket while trying to ignore the heaviness in your chest and tears building up in your eyes.

you put your phone away before you could read any more because you knew every extra comment would stick with you longer. you leave the phone on the other side of the couch and lean back against the cushions.

jobe was still in the kitchen, completely unaware of what happened, opening the fridge while grabbing a bottle of water after coming back from a day out with his brother. he twists the cap open while humming quietly to himself.

“you’ve gone really quiet, say something baby.” jobe walks back into the living room and looks over at you with a small concerned expression.

“i’m fine.” you answer softly while keeping your eyes on the blanket instead of looking at him.

jobe pauses for a moment because he knows your normal silence feels different from this, he sets the water down on the table and takes a few steps closer to the couch.

“you always say that when something is bothering you.” jobe sits down beside you while watching your face carefully.

you try to laugh it off because you don’t want him worrying about something that feels so small compared to everything else. you shrug slightly while forcing a small smile. “people were just being weird online.” you quietly admit while picking at a loose thread on the blanket.

jobe’s expression changes when he realizes what you mean. he reaches for your phone from the couch and looks at you for permission before touching it.

“was it because of my post?” jobe asks gently while holding the phone in his hand, getting closer to you.

you nod slowly because you already know he understands. you look down while your cheeks get warm from embarrassment, “i didn’t want you to feel bad about it.” you whisper while playing with your sleeve, to avoid eye contact again.

“why would you feeling hurt make me upset with you?” jobe asks while putting the phone back down beside him.

you lift your eyes toward him while waiting for what he says next, “people online see a picture and say anything just for engagement.” jobe explains while leaning forward with his elbows resting on his knees.

“they don’t know the first thing about you, or us.” jobe says while giving you a small reassuring smile.

you feel your shoulders relax a little because hearing it from him makes you forget some of the comments.

you let out a quiet breath and look away from the floor “it still sucks seeing people say those things.” you admit while resting your head against the couch.

“yeah, i know it does.” jobe says while nodding slowly, “i hate that people can be so comfortable saying things about someone they don’t even know.” he adds while shaking his head slightly.

you glance at him and notice how upset he looks for you and you watch him move closer and sit beside you again, “you don’t have to pretend you’re okay around me.” jobe says while giving your shoulder a gentle squeeze.

you smile a little, “i guess i just didn’t want you thinking i was being dramatic.” you say quietly while looking at him.

“you’re allowed to have feelings.” jobe replies while looking at you seriously.

“someone else being stupid online shouldn’t decide your feelings for yourself.” jobe says while smiling softly.

you laugh quietly and cover your face for a second “you’re really good at making me feel better.” you say while looking back at him.

“i try.” jobe says, giving you a wink and smiling while taking a sip of his water.

“also, for the record, i like the person i posted about.” jobe adds while nudging your shoulder playfully.

you roll your eyes playfully and gently push his arm back while smiling, “you’re so dumb.” you tease while leaning back into the cushions.

“you love me though.” jobe says while grinning.

lamine yamal (birthday boy!)

you had taken lamine and his immediate family out to dinner for his birthday. lamine was always the sweetest and most loving boyfriend to you, you had zero complaints other than the amount of time he’d spend on football.

you surprised him with a fancy restaurant that he’d been wanting to try for at least a year now, but never did because he said it was too much money. kenye was ecstatic and his parents were surprised, but not too surprised since they know how much you love him.

the waiter came by to ask for drinks, you made sure to give lamine a certain look when you told the waiter you wanted water. you noticed his mother looked over and squinted her eyes slightly, but didn’t say anything just yet.

“so, how have you two been, with the whole moving in situation?” lamine’s mother asked as the waiter made his way out.

you look over to lamine, pretending you need his permission to speak, he gives you a confused nod and you take that as a green light, “it’s been good, still needs decorating though.”

she nods suspiciously and his dad steps in, “and with his football schedule?” he asks.

lamine talks this time, “she’s been enjoying it, more time to herself with me annoying her,” he jokes, winking at you, you give a short laugh and nod.

the waiter finally made his way back and asked for our orders, you waited until everyone took theirs to do your prank. you bit your lip and looked over to lamine nervously.

“am i allowed to get the pasta this time?” you ask with pleading eyes.

lamine’s face immediately dropped and turned white, the waiter paused, and his mother immediately spoke, “lamine yamal nasraoui ebana.” she said in a stern voice.

“get whatever you want honey,” she smiled at you, “get her the pasta, thank you.” she told the waiter as he nodded and left again.

“lamine what is wrong with you?” she said, furrowing her eyebrows.

his dad spoke up, “that is not the way you treat your woman, son.” he shook his head no, disappointed.

“what!? i don’t know what she’s talking about!” he defended himself, looking at you in shock.

“you told me to lay off a few pounds the other week.” you mumbled.

he almost laughed, “what? you’re out of your mind.”

lamine’s father stood up and started to walk towards the other side where you two were sitting, you immediately waved your hands close to your chest.

“no, no, it’s just a prank!” you said nervously, “i’m sorry.”

his mom let out a grateful sigh, “you scared me!” she said, putting her hand on her chest.

lamine put his hand on your thigh, “i’m eating half of your pasta.” he whispered.

kylian had invited you to have lunch with his team before he went off to training in madrid for a while, you obviously accepted, but you weren’t letting him go without pulling a prank on him.

your salad had arrived first, before everyone else’s meal and you poked at it for a few seconds. then, you quietly looked over at kylian.

“can i ask you something?” you spoke just loud enough for him to hear.

he looked up from his pasta that had just arrived, “yeah?”

you lowered your voice, “i don’t really want the salad anymore.”

he shrugged, “that’s okay.”

you looked toward the waiter walking past, “i kind of want the truffle pasta instead.”

he smiled, rubbing your lower back, “then order it.” he nodded towards the waiter.

you hesitated, “are you sure you’re okay with that?”

he instantly frowned, giving you a confused look, “why wouldn’t i be?”

you shifted in your seat, “because it’s a lot heavier than this.”

“and?” he said, this time patting your thigh, looking at his teammates, scared.

you looked down at your salad, “i know you’ve been trying to get me to eat a little cleaner.” you said, making sure it was loud enough for everyone to hear.

then, conversation around the table stopped, and vinícius slowly lowered his fork.

rodrygo looked directly at kylian. “bro?”

kylian looked around the table, and back at you, betrayed, “i have been trying to what!?”

you held in your laugh, “i just didn’t want you thinking i wasn’t listening.”

vinícius leaned back in his chair, “kylian.” he said, while giving him a dirty look, “she eats ‘clean’ enough, look at her.”

jude smiles at you, “why are you controlling what your girl eats, mate?”

“no, i’m not controlling what she eats!” kylian raised his voice slightly, pleading.

camavinga stared at him, “oh, so you’re just one of those ‘just have a salad’ guys?” he asked.

“absolutely not!” he said, laughing out of disbelief, “she’s lying to you all!”

rodrygo shook his head, “that’s awful, kylian.”

jude couldn’t stop smiling, sensing it wasn’t true, “mate, if this is true, you’re finished.”

“i promise on everything, i have never once told her what to eat.” he laughs, throwing up his hands.

you looked up at him, “so i can order the pasta?” you ask, finally laughing into his shoulder, lifting up your phone to show you were recording.

“now, i don’t know if you can.” he rolls his eyes and pats your head.

the waiter smiled politely as he finished taking everyone’s food order. he looked around the table one last time before writing down the last few drinks.

“anything else?” he asked, tapping his pen on the notepad.

you looked at the menu again. your finger grazed absentmindedly against the list of drinks before you turned toward jude.

“i was thinking about getting one of those strawberry refreshers.” you spoke quietly.

he nodded without even looking up, “okay love.”

you hesitated, trying to make it believable, “are you sure?” you asked softly, “that it’s okay i mean.”

jude looked over at you, “yeah?” he answered, confused.

you glanced back at the waiter, “it’s got like sixty grams of sugar.” you pause for a second, and now his whole family is looking at you, “i know you’ve been telling me i should probably cut back a little.”

jude’s eyebrows practically disappeared into his hairline, “i’ve been telling you what?” he asked.

you nod, closing your lips together, “i just wanted to check first.”

the waiter awkwardly lowered his pen, looking between you two.

denise slowly turned toward her son, “jude victor william.”

then this father closed the menu in his hands shut, “is there something you’d like to tell us?” he asked calmly.

“what!?” jude said, his eyes widening.

joke smirked, definitely aware of the prank you were pulling on him, “hold on, he leaned forward, “are you rationing her drinks?” he asked.

“no!” jude answered immediately, nodding his head left and right.

you bit your lip to stop yourself from smiling as you watched denise cross her arms.

“because i raised you to mind your own plate.” she said, raising her eyebrows and giving him a look.

mark nodded in agreement, “your mother doesn’t even tell me what i can order, let alone me telling her!”

jude looked between all three of them, “i have literally never told her she can’t drink anything!”

you looked down at the menu again, “so, the refresher’s okay then?” you asked quietly.

he stared at you, “baby, you can order whatever you want, whenever.” he laughs, “hell, you could order four of them.”

jobe couldn’t help but laugh, but he tried to play it off by looking away and wiping his face.

jude pointed at his younger brother, “he’s cracking,” he said, squinting his eyes at you.

“you’re supposed to be helping me!” you said in between your teeth while giving him a light kick under the table.

“i couldn’t help it! you should’ve seen his face.” jobe grinned, “best laugh i’ve had in a while.”

you finally picked up your phone from against your glass, “thank you.” you laughed.

jude saw the recording and closed his eyes shut, “i cannot believe my entire family thought i was policing your sugar intake.”

mark reached over and patted him on the shoulder, “i’ll be honest,” he said clearing his throat, “i was about thirty seconds away from having a private father-son conversation.”

jude’s face dropped and the whole table laughed, you clung onto his arm, giving him a couple pecks to make him feel better before whispering in his ear, “i’m sorry.”

A few months later when the trend continued, you asked him why he called so much. The response was heart breaking yet charming at the same time.

"I don't have very many friends, and sometimes I feel like you'll disappear if I don't check in."

He offered to stop calling as much, to which you quickly explained he should absolutely not do that.

From then on, there had hardly been a day that passed when the two of you hadn't spoken or seen each other. You had a permanent parking spot at his home, and he had his own room at yours. At one point he had offered to let you live with him, which you thought about long and hard before settling on spending weekends there.

This trip was the first time in some years since you had been away from Michael for this long. You had barely even had time to talk with him, being in and out of meetings and long presentations.

You had called him late last night, and the sound of his voice struck your voice. The phone rang once before it was picked up.

"Y/n?!" Michael sounded so hopeful.

You laughed lightly, "Hey there, Mikey."

He let out a loud breath, "When are you coming home?" The question hit you hard. He sounded absolutely miserable, so sad that you thought there was something terrible that had happened.

"My flight is tomorrow. Are you alright, should I try to get on a flight now? Has something happened, you sound upset?" You sat up in your bed, mind on high alert.

"I mean, I wouldn't mind if you came home now." He trailed off for a moment, "But I'll try to wait until tomorrow morning."

"Mikey, what's wrong? Did something happen?" Your voice was full of concern.

"No, nothing happened. That's the problem." He sounded utterly miserable.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean that I've had absolutely nothing to do since you've been gone. I just kinda wander around my house waiting for someone to call me, but no one has. I just miss you a lot, everything's empty without you here."

His words mutilated your heart. You shifted slightly in your bed, "Oh, Michael. I'm so sorry, I had no idea, I would've called you way more."

"No no, it's not your fault! I know how busy you were, I just didn't realize how bad I would miss you." He spoke quickly.

You knew he wasn't upset with you, never with you. You took a breath, a plan stirring in your head. "Well, you won't have to miss me much longer, kay? I'll be home tomorrow. Why don't we get lunch tomorrow and then hang out at my place? I have so much to tell you about the conference."

You could practically hear the smile spreading on his face. "Yes! Yes, let's do that! Please!"

You laughed lightly, "Alright, sounds like a plan. I'll see you really soon, okay?"

"Okay, I'm counting down the hours." He spoke softly.

You smiled and hung up. Instead of going to bed, you quickly started dialing another number.

You smiled over at Michael as he practically flung himself into your car. He reached over the console and pulled you into a long hug. You hugged him back just as tight. He held on to you quietly for a long time before slowly pulling away.

"I'm so happy you're home now." Michael smiled.

"Me too! I missed having someone to look at when something crazy was said. Michael, I don't think you would've been able to control your laughter had you been with me. Some people were absolutely ridiculous." You put the car in drive.

"At this point, I wish I had gone with you. I would've just hung out in your hotel room if I had to." He relaxed against your seat.

"Oh, I was thinking we just have lunch at my place, that sound okay?" You glanced over at him to see if he had caught on to your grand plan.

He nodded, "Perfect, as long as we get to hang out."

You smiled, eagerly awaiting his reaction.

When you pulled into your driveway, you quickly got out. Michael followed suit, quickly jogging to catch up with you. Before you could open the door, Michael pulled you into another hug. You gently let go of the door handle, and wrapped him in your arms.

"I really missed you" He whispered quietly.

You smiled against his chest, "I missed you too"

You stood like that for a long time. Standing quietly on your front porch, both of you quietly holding the other.

You finally pulled away, "Alright, come on. I'm starving."

He smiled and followed you inside.

You quickly jumped to the side as everyone sprung from their hiding spots, shouting "SURPRISE!"

You had cleared the living room, pushing the sofa and coffee table to the far wall. In the middle sat a large game of Twister, beside it a huge pile of his other favorite games. Hung high on the wall was a large banner that said 'Ultimate Twister Smackdown' in messy lettering.

Michael looked around in shock at the sight of his siblings and other mutual friends all standing in your living room.

He hid his face in his hands, but the smile was too big to conceal. Your smile matched his, jumping up and down as you pulled him into the living room.

He went around quickly greeting everyone, smiling so much his cheeks started to hurt. You brought in drinks and snacks for everyone before explaining the rules.

"Okay! We're gonna do it bracket style until there are two left and whoever wins is the Twister Champion! Oh and there's a prize!" You pulled out an old princess tiara and a temporary tattoo in the shape of a crocodile. "Behold the spoils!"

Everyone cheered. Jackie spoke up from the side, "Well we all know who the real smack down is going to be between." He pointed at you and Michael, "You two play Twister all the time."

You shrugged, "Well if you wanna go ahead an think like that, it's fine. Just means you'll be easier to take down."

Everyone gathered around, cheering on the two people battling it out. The house was filled with nothing but laughter and smiles. Michael sat right beside you, giggling at the sad attempts of his siblings. You both fell off the couch with laughter when Marlon farted in Randy's face to secure his win.

As predicted, you and Michael were the final two. The battle was ruthless. Michael chose dots that made your positions more difficult, and you kept blowing air in his face to annoy him. The round lasted almost 30 minutes, your bodies twisted in un-natural positions.

Michael gazed at you from under his arm, "Give up!"

"You give up!" You laughed.

"Someone give up so we can play another game!" Randy sat on the couch with an exasperated expression.

You turned, blowing a raspberry at him. Michael took the chance to carefully push you slightly, causing you to tumble down.

Everyone cheered as you stared at Michael in shock. "You cheated!"

"I don't know what you're talking about! I won fair and square!" He stood up in victory. He took the tiara and put it on his head as you sat on the mat with a pout.

Everyone quickly moved about, grabbing more games and talking idly. Michael pulled you up and into another game. As the night continued, people slowly filtered out until it was just you and Michael. You both sat on the couch, you held a damp rag to his arm, transferring the temporary tattoo onto his skin. Michael watched you with a small smile.

He spoke softly, "Thank you, and not just for the tattoo."

You looked up at him, peeling away the damp paper. "Anytime, Mikey. I mean it."

"What would I do without you?" He rested into your side.

You shrugged, "That's an awful thing to think about, so let's not."

You both laughed a bit. "You mean everything to me." He looked up at you.

You smiled again, "You mean the same. And if you ever feel like that again, call me. I'm serious. I don't care what time it is, call me. Promise me." You held out your pinky finger.

He hooked his with yours. "I promise. And you can always do the same with me. It means a lot that you took the time and did this."

"Anything for you." You leaned down and pressed a kiss to his head.

He smiled and looked up at you with mischievous eyes, "Wanna play another round of Twister?"

"Do you even have to ask?" You pulled him up from the couch.
