there was one good thing about getting stuck with getting stuck with grass maintenance -- and that was that maverick was stationed not far away from him in the whole leave raking department.Β so it was nice whenever newt got bored, he could always mosey over and mess with the nice piles that maverick had made.Β despite the first look at newt -- the boy could be quite mischievous when prompted. he still was a nineteen year old boy after all.Β now, happened to be one of the times that he had grown bored with his job. and instead of sprinkling the leaves over the other as he had been doing, newt had now just plopped full force into a pile of the leaves, beginning to make a fall version of a snow angel.Β βoh, did i make your job harder?β newt asked sarcastically, a grin on his face.

newt read lord of the flies. heβs sure everybody had, it had been required reading for him growing up, he was sure everyone had shared the sentiment. he wasnβt sure if everybody remembered the story -- but they would at least remember one thing: the chaos. the devil, beelzebub, taking over the minds of the young boys.Β anyone from the outside looking in could see the parallels.Β because as lord of the flies went -- there was quiet before the chaos.Β newt didnβt return the otherβs gaze, his eyes surveyed the buildings around them -- glancing back to the light post every now and again where the other swear the bird was.Β it was almost like he was waiting for it to just appear again -- as if their eyes and brain were only playing tricks on them.Β the question made newt freeze involuntarily.Β a battle happened in his brain debating between the two options,Β βi know the words of the bible.β is what he decided on. cryptic-- but the message still got across.Β Β βwhy? you think beelzebub is having his way with us now?β the words were a bit funny in retrospect, a small grin appearing on newtβs face before it disappeared as quickly as it came.Β Β βi donβt think weβre dead.Β if Ben is truly gone, then how can you die twice?βΒ

there was a storm. thatβs it.Β was it a false alarm, a bamboozle to get the college kids out of their home and into whatever this was. but for what?Β who had anything to gain from doing this to them? newt couldnβt tell you the answers to the questions running through his own head as he joined the other in looking at the lamp post for couple seconds.Β Β βi donβt know if itβs a matter of where they went.β he pondered,Β βi think itβs more a question of where did we go.βΒ he answered blankly -- the emotion that was portrayed in his voice only a few seconds ago had disappeared. nobody knew whether it was newt covering his emotions or the fact that the emotion had truly faded away. "we still don't even know if there's anything out there. it took centuries-- millions of centuries, for everything to be discovered. we just started back in the river civilizations. and i don't even think we have bronze as a starting point." well, at least everything was still built, and there was a lack of real need for armour or weapons. that was until they needed to start hunting -- but mostly everything they needed was here for them. what was the point of them being here? the question arose again. "we need to figure out why we're here -- and what happened. there has to be something in this town that can tell us that." but where do you even start?

a new roommate.Β newt was grateful he was able to stay in the dorms.Β there was a sense of comfort that came with that knowledge.Β but layton -- he was not a man that newt knew well. although the boy never really had a problem making friends, there was something about the whole new situation that felt scary to him.Β it was all new.Β and they had to face it alone.Β there was no more opportunity to call your parents when you were stuck in an issue and didnβt know how to face it.Β no more little fights with your siblings ( unless you were fortunate enough for them to be here with you. ) there was nothing.Β only them.Β newt forced the thoughts out of his brain, there was no point in agonizing over it.Β what is done is done.Β he opened the door on the stranger -- no, his roommate. it was obvious that newt was startled to see him there.Β βuh, hi -- Iβm newt.β he introduced himself.Β was there even a need for introductions?Β no. they had seen the names on the list, probably even saw one another around campus.Β but talked? no. maybe introductions were a good starting point.

he stopped the solo cup with his foot, shuffling it back and forth before kicking it back.Β a skill he still obtained from playing soccer with his friends growing up.Β but only casually, newt had never been competitive enough to be on a real sports team.Β he was usually just happy the way things were -- not something teammates very much appreciated.Β Β βthey always say history finds a way to repeat itself.Β i thought we were going to be done after the whole communist outbreak too.β he spoke as if he lived through the event.Β βi hope selene and tripp are checking for shrooms in the bread.β he joked.Β after a brief moment of thought, newt shrugged,Β βor he found a way back.β he mused -- almost woefully.Β
Poppy stood in the middle of the party taking some sips of her drink. She looked around before catching the persons eye in front of her, she gave them a quick smile before their bodies became closer. Ever since the incident Poppy is on a live as freely as you can process. She barely gets nervous or embarrassed and she never feels scared to do anything anymore.Β βHi thereβ she finally said to the person in front of her she yelled over the music.
this was the second party now that newt had found himself questioning his existence.Β they were college kids, what did he expect to happen.Β maybe a part of him hoped that now people would start accepting their predicament. how naive of him.Β but at the same time, here he was -- present at the very party he was cursing.Β no doubt at the hands of his three boys he begrudgingly refers to as his best friends.Β a polite grin spread on his face as he caught eyes with the blonde.Β Β βhello.β he returned the greeting,Β βthis makes me think about our first night here.β he spoke as if the place was entirely unfamiliar to him -- and in some part, it was.Β βcan you really believe its been four days, now?β βletβs just hope no one goes missing from this party either.β the thought loomed in newtβs head.

darkness is covered in the alleywayΒ ,Β curfews seem to be an unspoken rule βΒ but dylan thrived at nightΒ .Β there were no sounds of rulesΒ ,Β nobody telling him where to goΒ ,Β how to dressΒ ,Β no one wanting anything from himΒ .Β the rest of the world was tied up insideΒ ,Β with suffocating roommates that made the air to breathΒ ,Β thick and heavyΒ . footsteps are clocked outside the dormsΒ ,Β and heβs trying his best to be faintΒ ,Β quietΒ .Β heβll stand where the birds nest should have beenΒ ,Β and heβll stare and stareΒ .Β fingertips brushed against bruised lipsΒ ,Β and a joint is tugged between his teeth with an exhaleΒ .Β he wasnβt crazy - he wasnβt crazy - he wasnβt β- sound of footsteps break his inner monologue and he whips aroundΒ .Β newtΒ .Β βjesus..β itβs muttered through smoke filled lungsΒ ,Β and a heavy weight on his chestΒ .Β βi didnβt think anyone else was out hereΒ .βΒ
it was probably a well known fact that newt didnβt really -- sleep.Β well, maybe not.Β there werenβt a lot of people that knew him well, just the other way around.Β maybe it was just better that way, it was certainly easier.Β either way, it had been years since newt could get a proper nights rest.Β even in this new society the students of halloway had found themselves in, nothing had really changed in that.Β so, now he took walks since there was no real worry of the night anymore. those nights were he would sit on the balcony of the dorms, staring at the starings had slowly morphed into full on walks now. his eyes barely watched where he went, but they did lock on to a figure in the distance. the lights seemed to be dimmer than usual ( or maybe newt's vision had worsened ), but it seemed to be dylan. he approached slowly, trying to follow dylan's head to see what he was looking at. "still on the owl?" he questioned, his mind drifting back to the conversation the night of the party. "so everything is gone, huh? it really is just us. they even took a damned bird away." it almost sounded angry coming out of newt, not his first intention. but generally a surprise from the usual levelheaded boy.

newt was still getting used to the newfound chaos. three days it has been.Β the sun rising every morning at the usual times, setting at night.Β just as if they were still on earth.Β but were they really?Β he was sat on the stairs outside the library, solo cups still littered about despite newly found order.Β perhaps it was more of a symbol that chaos still sat below.Β newt wandered about it.Β but mostly, his mind sat on the boy who disappeared.Β benjamin walley. newt did not know the boy well, but to hear of anyone going missing was troublesome.Β but people were whispering of murder, those were words newt did not agree with. he stood, kicking around a solo cup that was in front of his foot -- acting as if it was now a soccer ball. βpeople are always so quick on judgement.β he asked the nearest person to him. βdonβt you think we should at least wait until a body is found for the word murder to be spread?"
Hey, you got this.Β
