Number 1 most important tip for University -
For every single essay/assignment/piece of coursework ā¦
Set your own deadline a week earlier than the official one. It sounds obvious but the tricky bit is coming: actually force yourself to stick to it. Make a start as soon as you get the assignment and have your work completely 100% finished and handed in by the day you set.Ā
There is nothing like the feeling of knowing that you are completely free of the work at the same point that everyone else on your course is starting to panic,Ā honestly its the most motivating thing in the world.Ā
While everyone else is doing all nighters in the library, you get to take a night off. You then also get to spend the next week catching up on all your other work and even getting ahead. Trust me it will feel amazing, and you will feel refreshed by hand-in day, not burnt out like everyone else.Ā
Also, if you ever do have a personal emergency (a broken laptop/ missing work/ a nasty cold) you wonāt have anything to worry about, youāll already be ahead.
I did this throughout first year and it was the best decision I made. It also helped me to be a good friend when my assignment was already handed in and my friend was completely stuck and only just starting. I actually had time to give her a hand without sacrificing my own work.Ā
I like to get my weekend homework done and out of the way by Saturday night so then I can do extra-credit stuff on Sunday.

how to start studying after school
clean up your desk: itās hard to concentrate when thereās a pile of rubbish on your desk. the chance of you fiddling with things is also higher! youāll get more done by cleaning your desk! if youāre looking for an easy way to organise your desk, check out these handy organisers!
get your books: get out all the books you need to study that particular subject. if itās geography, an atlas might be handy.
get a notebook: if youāre in uni or college itās a good idea to re-write all your notes for your classes that day. make them look clean and tidy. if youāre in secondary school and youāre studying for a test, summarize everything you have learned. in any case, itās best to have a few notebooks on your desk too. hereās a 4 pack of spiral notebooks for $7.04!
grab some pens: seems self explanatory! i recommend you having an ordinary pen, a highlighter and a pencil on hand. (a.k.a. the basics!) here are some super cute gel pens!
turn off your phone: by turning off your phone, you will get less distracted by social media. sure, people wonāt be able to reach you but youāll get some peace and quiet. obviously leave it on if youāre expecting an important call!
look for a study playlist: if you easily get distracted by your laptop too, skip this step. i personally find it harder to get distracted by my laptop than my phone, so i leave it on and look for some music to study to. hereās a masterpost of some good playlists to listen to!
get a glass of water: you really need your h2o, everyone. grab a large glass or fill up a water bottle. some super cute ones: i ii iii
get a healthy snack: if youāre like me and you love snacking on things while your studying, the best thing to do is to grab something healthy. cut up some apples and sprinkle some cinnamon on them (try it. itās amazing.), grab some hummus and some celery or carrots or cucumber to dip in it, fill a little bowl with nuts, treat yourself to a square of dark chocolate! if youāre studying during dinner time or lunch time, make yourself a nourishment bowl to nibble on. for more study snack ideas, go to pinterest and snoop around the study snack tag for a while. try out my favourite smoothie bowl too!
take a deep breath: i know from personal experience that sometimes the workload can be really scary and freak you out. the most important thing to do is to take a deep breath and to tell yourself you can get through all your work. you can do anything if you try hard enough!
get cracking: now that youāve done steps 1-9, you can actually start studying! good luck!
āWe are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.

Brussels is glowing Part Deux - lovely little bookstore we walked into
*click for better pic quality* My other masterposts:Ā study soundsāŖdealing withĀ failureĀ
MOTIVATION VS SELF-DISCIPLINE
When studying, most people try to find motivation thinking that this will get them through their study session, or they will see their failure as a result of a lack of motivation. But motivation isnāt always what we need - what do you do on the days you have no motivation? This is why we need self-discipline.
MOTIVATION VS SELF DISCIPLINE
Motivation - a willingness to do something. It is the set of psychological forces that compel you to take action. A goal or reward that you look forward to that will encourage you to study - while this is useful, what happens on a day when you just donāt feel like studying?
Self-Discipline - making yourself do things you know you should do when you donāt want to. Being trained to routinely study regardless of how unmotivated you are - this is what will get you out of bed on a day you donāt feel like studying.
So if motivation is āwhy we should do somethingā - self-discipline is more āwhat to do nextā.
HOW TO BE SELF-DISCIPLINED
Make a commitment with yourself that you will make studying as your habit.Ā This is super important. Commit yourself to make this as your new habit. Donāt half-ass any of these suggestions or any other suggestions that other people give. Donāt give yourself silly, illegitimate excuses in the process. For this, you can do it by remind yourself on what your long-term goals in life are. Or if they donāt sound rewarding enough, remind yourself what failure feels like/ could feel like.
Set yourself a routine and stick to it
Never have a zero day - try and study every single day - even if you feel absolutely awful - 10 minutes is better than nothing!! Do flashcards from your bed or watch youtube ted talks if you canāt physically study. This will help help develop a routine and make it easier for you to cope. Also, by studying everyday your brain will know that the content you are learning should be stored as long-term information so this will benefit you in the long run!
Avoid long breaks. Unless you know that taking an hour long break means only an hour, then you can ignore this. But fo the majority of us, once weāve taken a while out of studying it can be hard to get back into it again. One minute youāre taking a 20 minute break for a snack and some phone time and the next thing you know youāre on Youtube and four hours have passed! To avoid this, try stick to shorter breaks - five or ten minutes for a snack break, toilet break and to check any phone messages. A good method to try for this is the Pomodoro Method!
Build on your productivity, not your failures.
If you come from a past of procrastinating and now feel motivated to change and discipline yourself, do NOT try to do everything at once. Start things slow and in steps.
Set yourself smaller deadlines for your goals like monthly and weekly deadlines - e.g. if you are doing a project, due 27th June, set personal deadlines, like have the introduction written by the 8th, have your literature review written by the 15th, have project complete by the 25th.Ā
Break down the things that you must do into smaller, concrete activities and put those smaller activities in that to-do list; allocate specific time periods to do each smaller activities and put it the to-do list as well; set an alarm reminder for each smaller activities. Say you have to study for English on Tuesday, because for whatever reasons you just decided to dedicate your time this Tuesday to study English. However, Iād suggest that you break down that specific activity (or ādaily goalā) before putting it in your to-do list. So, instead of just putting āstudy for Physicsā, try putting āread and highlight Chapter 9ā³, because putting very general/broad activity like āstudy Englishā can actually make you too confused on where and how to start doing it, and make you very prone to distractions in the process.Ā
Know your limits. Self-discipline isnāt doing as much as you can until you break - itās about having control, knowing what you can realistically manage and getting that done.
Give yourself rewards! I love to have something to look forward to as I get work done! This means mixing motivation and self-discipline. I tell myself after this lecture I can have an animal crossing break or check some messages etc.Ā
Track your progress ā donāt forget to put a checklist on your to-do list after accomplishing a task. It would relieve your stress a bit and motivate you to continue doing the remaining activities on your to-do list.Ā
Remove distractions from your study space! Personally, if my phone is out and I notice a notificationā¦Iām gonna check it. Itās human nature! So to combat this, I use apps like Forest that force me to stay within the app while I study. If I know I might get hungry during a study session Iāll keep a little snack by my desk so I donāt have to get up and somehow find something else to distract me.
Just do it isnāt that easy. I find to get myself in a āwork bossā mood I need to feel good about myself so I put on a nice outfit and maybe some eyeliner and hype myself up so I know I can do my tasks and get stuff done! It feels so much better than lazing in my pyjamas trying to study.
Be patient. Itās going to be a rough journey, itās going to be hard but youāve got this! Take it one step at a time. Start off by completing one task a day, then move to two, then three, and the next thing you know, youāll have a regular routine where you will constantly be ticking off your to-do list everyday! But remember to be kind to yourself, know when your body is not in the right state of health to study and donāt force it. Only force yourself to a limit, youāll know when to stop and thatās okay. Just try again when you feel better! Your health is much more important!
7/100 days of productivity
I have a lot of exams and projects but I'm very very happy with my classes, my classmates and my teachers. It's a lot of work but I really love what I'm doing and it's not a big problem stay at home working instead of be outside everyday. I'm so proud of who I am right now.

53/100 days of productivity
Hereās to a new academic year. I missed art history lectures so much.
6/100 days of productivity
This morning I procrastinated a little bit, but this afternoon I did a project I have to do for tuesday, so I'm not disappointed at all. I saw the sunset through my window and now I'm going to sleep because tomorrow I'm going to wake up early because I have to exercise and do more things related with uni.
Appart of that I'm not ok at all with my loved ones and I'm a bit sad but I have to find a balance between my classes and my friends and family.

5/100 days of productivity
I started two weeks ago the university. I remember the first day I was very scared and anxious but Iām an extrovert so the only thing I had to do was be myself and I just started to talk with people.
We go to uni one week half of the group and the other half are in their houses following the class by zoom.
I didnāt think it would be so stressful, but it is, but I like it so much. I have five subjects this semester and other five the following semester. I want to do my best, I want to focus on my career, my classes and the most important part, I want to learn everything about art history.
Itās difficult because Iāve never been a good student and I feel tired all the time, but I want to do this for me and my future so Iām going to do it.
