Atypical season 3 spoilers

I really love Cazzie in Atypical season 3, but there's one aspect people don't talk about enough.

When Casey told Evan about the kiss, he didn't even mention that Izzie was a girl. He didn't care about that, he cared that Casey had kissed someone. He didn't say anything like "are you gay" or something.

During the gay penguin talk, Sam didn't care that Izzie was a girl, he just asked if they were a couple.

Same with Gretchen, when she thought Casey and Izzie were a couple.

There were no "coming out" stories. People didn't care that they were two girls. It wasn't important to the story (except maybe that Casey had more troubles acknowledging her feelings).

It was just two people falling in love.

That's the kind of representation we need, because even tho coming out stories being represented are important, what Atypical did normalizes same sex relationships,by treating them the same way they treat m/f relationships.

M’kay I gotta get on a soapbox here for a moment. When my sibling was in elementary school, they had a pretty big learning disability. Their counselor told my mom that they would never be anything more than a garbage man because they were just to “delayed” to do anything else.

Worst counselor EVER! First and foremost. I think that was when I truly understood what ableism was. My sibling had a learning disorder.

Second of all, flash forward 20 some years and my sibling has a highly specialized skill in driving/maneuvering big trucks in tight spaces. Wanna guess what they do for a living???

Ding ding ding!

If you guessed garbage collector then you’re correct. Not only do they have a highly specialized skill that takes training and practice but they also make more than I do with a college education, not to mention they’re the better driver in the family.

So fuck that counselor for trying to scare my mom with the “your kid will never amount to more than a garbage collector” bullshit. My sibling has a stable job that pays well with good benefits and is happy. Also fuck anyone who says that being the garbage man is the dregs of society when you know damn well that your nasty house would be full of trash if your local garbage collectors were to suddenly stop coming by to pick up your literal shit.
