hi daehyun, are you tired already? you know whoβs writing to you, donβt you? i bet you are curious to know what the content of this letter is, but if i know you, and believe me i do, i know you know every word thatβs here. i mean, we didnβt change a lot from one year to another, did we?
itβs july, and weβre still stuck with the same old story: weβre still the best in the industry, you know? i put my trust in you that youβre still taking care of our voice and keeping it pristine. that means you should stop eating that disgusting green pepper snack you like so much. please, do us a favor: if youβre still eating it, put that on hold. everyone in the group hates it - and you should stop doing things only to tease your best friends and teammates off.Β
this should be a sketch of how we were feeling a year ago, but honestly, i know we remember everything, and thatβs the worst part of being kim daehyun, isnβt it? we remember everything, every word, what makes us happy and what makes us sad, and this is both a blessing and a curse (i should definitely write a song about it one day - or maybe you should give it a shot; how about that for future advice?)
but one thing i hope you arenβt doing is stressing out too much. i know itβs hard and that we have so many responsibilities on our shoulders, especially with our group, but you know youβre a part of a group for a reason and you should always rely on them (yes, i mean all of them). you donβt need to go into your irony mode for protection; youβve been on this road long enough to know when to stop and think about things, knowing when to ask for help.
and this also means your personal life.Β
i want you to slow down a bit. i want you to open your heart and look around. we both know how hard it is to trust someone when the one you trusted the most turned their back on you, but your mom isnβt the bad guy here; no one is, if you think about it.
i hope you can find peace in your heart to make the best decisions about this, because i know career-wise weβre still rocking one year ahead. but i wish for your heart to be as good as your idol side.Β

whenever someone asks if daehyun enjoys working out, he would reply with a simple βdepends on which part of the body youβre talking aboutβ. because the artist is completely against working out, unless heβs forced to (his members do this all the time, actually have been doing it for almost the past decade), and he still will pout and stomp his feet, complaining about it.
however if one means the way he cares about his voice, well, thatβs a whole different story. he not only takes care of it, but he does it in a way most people would consider it an obsession.
since he started singing professionally, be it when he joined kh entertainment, daehyunβs been praised for his tone and range. it was one of his coaches who pulled him to the side after one of their million practice sessions and told him about how he should take care of his vocal cords and his voice - that he could be someone remarkable in the future unless he didnβt forget what he had inside was his work instrument.
just like any tool, daehyun takes care of his voice diligently; he avoids speaking for a long time, especially during comeback and tour seasons. as an established idol with a long career, he knows when to stop talking and start communicating using his phone or a notepad he carries around with him (a lot of people believes he does it for when inspiration kicks in and he can start wriging lyruics to a song, but thatβs false information - his lyrics composition process is in a total different level).
in the past, his worst nightmare was to lose his voice completely and to let his team down. because of that, his anxiety about it forced him to rely on teas, meditation, and sometimes a shoulder to cry on about it. so itβs not rare, even now, when heβs about to celebrate a decade in idol road, his apartment smells like herbs (lavender and cinnamon especially) or his friends gift him those exact things - teas and utensils to prepare teas.

the building was supposed to be calm and quiet, unlike daehyunβs racing heart, but he could hear the familiar grunting coming from one of his favorite dance practice rooms. most people didnβt know why he liked that room in particular, but it was rarely used; people didnβt like small places to practice, and it was said that it was a former storage room or studio room, no one really knew for sure.
but daehyun liked it for those specific reasons. it had a good acoustic, it felt hot when a lot of people practiced with the doors closed, and you could feel the energy and sweat taking over; it was perfect.
at that time of the night, there could only be one person there facing the same problems (maybe?) that he was going through. it was known between him and skyler that the two of them had severe insomnia problems and that they found each other in that common place. they werenβt used to sharing a lot, but that familiarity turned those meetings into a bonding moment between the two idols.
and now he was there, just like daehyun.
he didnβt knock and wasnβt expecting the guy to be startled by his presence, but when it happened, instead of excusing himself, daehyun just smirked and rolled his eyes, the bag in one of his hands producing some shuffling noise as he closed the door behind him.

when daehyun left his own place and took a cab to taeohβs apartment without sending him a text to ask if he was okay with having him there up for a visit, he knew he could have a negative response from his leader. although he doubted taeoh would say something like that, daehyun didnβt even think the guy could have someone else there with him.

daehyun was known for his impulsive acts, words, and retorts, most of which led to the group being caught in awkward situations backstage, during shows, practice hours, and staff meetings. he just couldnβt hold his tongue when he saw something that went against his principles, and he needed to make a point about it.
reason number one why he was standing there, in the middle of the night - he couldnβt sleep, whatβs new with that? - trying to come up with a good reason to show up unannounced and uninvited. daehyun was sweating, and it had nothing to do with the high temperatures of that wednesday night, and everything to do with people asking him the same thing over and over.
most people thought the group had an obligation to share information with them - always be ready with an answer for a question, and when they just ignored that or came up with something that wasnβt remotely good for them, they acted as if the world was about to end.
contract renewal was starting to sound like a cursed expression, judging by the sour expression that would cover daehyunβs face whenever someone asked or even hinted about it. sometimes it was said in a joking way, and it still made his skin crawl; he wasnβt the spokesman for the group for that exact reason.
and now he needed taeoh, or he would end up doing something he might regret.
