"You know you haven't asked about him since... everything. Aren't you curious?"

"Ma'am, did you need help? You look a little lost."

"Would you like to go out on a date with me, Valentina?"

"Yes. I would very much like to if it would be something you’re interested in. Why the confusion?"

"I just...most guys I end up with aren't really...interested in that sort of thing."

"Thank you," she choked out between kisses. She cupped his face in her hands and returned his kiss passionately, kissing him over and over again until she felt like her heart was going to burst. She moved to wrap her arms around his neck and deepened the kiss, making it slow but incredibly deep. 

The kisses were having a very relaxing effect on Anton. He felt all the tension of the day start to leave him as his lips worked over Val’s. In fact a very different tension started to try and make itself known but Anton tried to put those thought to the back of his mind and just focussed on the pleasant calm that had settled between the two of them. 

"Anton. I love you, but I know I suck." She gently cupped his cheeks in her hands and smiled at him. "I have no idea why you would ever love anyone like me, but I'm really really grateful you do. I was convinced...after everything that happened with Gary and my family...I didn't think anyone was ever going to love me, but for some completely idiotic reason you do, and I don't deserve that, but I'm glad you do."

"You know you haven't asked about him since... everything. Aren't you curious?"

"They're not good memories Anton. When you asked me that one time...I just don't like reliving it okay? He was...he was my teacher. We weren't supposed to...I didn't mean for it to happen the way it did."

It was a quiet day and an extra break had been planned in the schedule. When WENDI announced it, Anton pulled Valentina along with him to their room and brought her to the bed. "I thought you could do with a rest so I thought we could cuddle for a bit. Whatcha think?"

Valentina looked up at him, surprise running over her features. “Really? I would’ve thought you’d like the sex better. I mean, most guys I’ve been with haven’t exactly been the cuddly type.”

With a small smile, Anton shrugged and snuggled into Val some more. “Don’t get me wrong, I love sex. Really love it but there’s something about hugs. Peaceful and soothing. Especially with you. There are times where I just want to hold you forever. For it just to be the two of us. Right here. Holding each other. Might seem kinda soppy but I like it.”

"You know, I'm growing increasingly fond of your soppyness." She burrowed further into his arms and buried her face in his neck. For the first time in a long time, Valentina felt safe. "Hey Anton? I love you."

"How far along are you?"

"Terrible. It’s weird. One minute the kid’ll want something really specific to eat and then a few hours later it’ll make my stomach turn upside down. I haven’t even had the kid yet and I’m already confused. Maybe I wasn’t cut out for this…"

"Nobody’s just cut out for it; it’s all a learning curve. This is the hardest part, I promise. Once they’re here, everything gets a lot easier because you get to see the little miracle you’re going through all of it for. The best advice I’ve got for morning sickness is to just go with all of it and rest when you feel sick. My first babies didn’t like jell-o and the boys constantly wanted macaroons, it can really suck sometimes, but it’s worth it."

"Yeah see, but you're...not me. You didn't live with my parents. Believe me, they weren't exactly the greatest models, and I can't say I've had a good one since. Besides, space isn't exactly the best place to have a baby."

"Okay, sure. You don’t have to lie to me. It’s fine. As long as you’re okay."

"I’m not lying Val. I really did come here first. I missed you. I wanted to see you."

"Since when? I'm not the kind of person people look forward to seeing."

"I…you…dammit I’m getting really fucking sick of this time travel thing."

"It’s not as if I meant to be gone that long and you’re the first person I wanted to see when I got back…if that…helps?"

"Okay, sure. You don't have to lie to me. It's fine. As long as you're okay."

"Anton? We've got a problem."

"Hey. One: it’s different when it’s your child and two: you won’t be on your own. I’ll be with you every step of the way. I’d look after both of you. I think, if you want this baby, you could be a very good Mother. It a learning curve and mistakes happen with every family but I know you can do it. We can do it."

"We can? Anton, we live on a fucking spaceship! You really want to raise a kid on the Regina? There’s about a thousand things that could go wrong with that! And besides, I’m really really not the kind of woman you want to be making a family with."

"You are the only woman I want to have a family with,” he said calmly. Taking her hands, Anton tried to get Valentina to sit down and listen to him. “Val, just breathe. Okay, please. Just take steady breaths. We will take this one step at a time. I’m not saying it’ll be easy or that there won’t be compromises but it can work. We just need to take things bit by bit. Right now - the priority is that you need rest. Come on, I’m taking you to bed and I’m going to wrap you in blankets and hold you. I’m here for you Val and I’m not going anywhere.” With that he started to try and guide her to their bedroom.

At first, she wanted to resist, but then she thought about it and suddenly the concept didn't seem so foreign and strange. She was still terrified, of course, but she started to think she actually might be able to do it. She nodded and squeezed Anton's hands back. "Okay. I just...I don't want to become my mother, Anton, but she's the only model I ever really had."

"Why?  How long has it been for you?"

"……A year? Maybe two. I’ve lost track honestly."

"I...you...dammit I'm getting really fucking sick of this time travel thing."

Valentina was sitting in the kitchen, a blanket wrapped around her as she silently ate a sandwich. When she heard a noise behind her, she turned, and gave Anton a small smile. "Hey. Sorry, I didn't wake you did I?"

"Yes," she murmured, leaning into him and still nibbling at the sandwich. "It spit out the pickle right away but it took me awhile to get the onion. Your kid is really hungry."

Keeping hold of Val, Anton reached over and picked up a few of the packets of sandwiches that were scattered over the table. Finding one he liked, he got into it using his teeth and free hand. “A good appetite is a good thing, I think. Did you sleep okay? I can give Jimmy and Tilda your work schedule for today if you needed to rest.”

"No, it's okay," Valentina murmured, cuddling even further into him. She tugged the blanket a bit more securely around her as she finished off her sandwich. "I don't need special treatment just because I'm pregnant, Anton. I can handle it. I just...needed a sandwich."
