Located in Irvington, New York, this incredible house was built in 1859–1860 by financier Paul J. Armour, but the actual architect remains unknown. The dome was added later by its next owner, Joseph Stiner, a tea importer. It’s one of less than a hundred octagon houses still extant in the United States.
In 1981, the house starred as the main setting for a particularly awful horror film called The Nesting.
Luckily the National Trust was eventually able to sell the home to the perfect candidate: A preservationist architect, Joseph Pell Lombardi, who has transformed the house, interiors, grounds and outbuildings into what it is today.
Look at this fabulousness.
The owner knew how to do a vintage kitchen. This is perfection.
Love the details on the ceiling and border, plus the matching carpet.
And, this is how to restore a vintage bath. Beautiful.
Not quite sure why an Egyptian theme was chosen for this room in a Victorian house, but okay, at least it’s colorful.
Here we are on the first level of the dome- it goes higher.
The observation tower in the dome. This is fabulous.
In love with the greenhouse.
And, look at the adorable striped outbuilding. Tours are pretty reasonable at about $30 per ticket. You can book a tour here https://www.armourstiner.com/
