    “Yeah, except you’d probably have to ask Remi if it was okay for you to give me sugar.  I don’t know how much he’d love it.”

    “Or you could just do more favors for me since I don’t see him buying you any super amazing gifts.  It’s not his fault, though.  We can’t all be as thoughtful as I am.”

    Harlee clapped her hands in delight.  She’d spent hours trying to decide what Jerome would like best and had sent Remi at least twenty pictures asking if he knew whether or not Jerome already owned what she was considering.  “I’m so happy!” she said, her arms wrapped around him.  “We should do this every week.  Then you’ll always have something good to look forward to!”

    “I wanted to give you something to thank you for a few weeks ago, when you took some of Remi’s appointments for him,” she said.  She held out the box for him to take.

   “I really needed a few days to, like, get my shit together and I just…couldn’t be alone.  Having Remi with me made everything better and that was only possible because of you, hence the gift.  So, thank you.”

   “Shit. Better start doin’ him favors more often.” Jerome took the box from her and hurried to sit on a low brick wall nearby, putting it in his lap so he could open it. By the time he was done, Charlie had sat down next to him, and after calming his initial giddy surprise, he kissed her on the cheek and hugged her, smile still wide on his face.

    “But why?  Is it my clothes?  My hair?”

    “You know, many years ago, they used to call that an Irish coffee.  Just a fun fact for you.”

“Both?”

    “Jerome!” Harlee called.  She had asked Remi earlier where Jerome would be and had visited a few spots he’d given her before finding him.  In her arms was a professionally wrapped package holding a thank you gift for him - a pair of designer sneakers with a matching leather jacket.  “I have a little present for you!”

   “Hey!” Jerome greeted Charlie with a smile, pleasantly surprised at seeing a friendly face in the middle of his work day.

“Surprisingly, that is not the first time someone has said that about me.”

I prefer cappuccinos, personally, but it was too hot today.  My…friend Charlotte always gets some sort of iced concoction so I thought I might give it a try.  Do you get it often?”

   “‘Cause it’s true!” Jerome smiled wider, delighted that some stranger somewhere shared his impression.

    “It seems I’ve accidentally taken your coffee.  I apologize, I wasn’t paying attention.”

    Maxwell held the cup out for it’s rightful owner to take.  “I believe this belongs to you.”

   “Same order?” Jerome took his iced soy latte from the stranger with an amiable smile.

“I dunno. I don’t follow that scene. Don’t get dirty.”

“So, I dunno what you’re suppose to tell me, to be honest.”
