As I slowly, but surely, work my way into Scott Belsky's Making Ideas Happen: Overcoming the Obstacles Between Vision and Reality I am stopped by insight that has always been an underlying, unsaid way of [my] life -- one that never seemed necessary to bring to light. Hitting page 37 (on my lovely kindle app), The Importance of Action Steps caught me by surprise as it was a well articulated written piece (of what I kind of already live by) that helped me organize my own processes. Though like other blog posts, this may mean more to me than it does to you, I also feel that it is something worth sharing. Whether you already know it, or not, it's different to be heard from others' minds each time.
I was always the type of person to just go with the flow and make happen whatever came my way, but it wasn't too long ago that my eyes were opened to such mediocre attitudes. I know I'm better than just going with the flow.. I know I'm capable of taking up my ambitions passed the sky, and likewise, I am a firm believer that a man (or woman) can make anything happen if they really want it to. However, ideas are worthless if you can't make them happen. Thoughts and other ideas can easily jumble up and lose traction as you process them, dropping any potential productivity. You can easily spend your entire day just responding to social networking mail while never finding time to push the big, meaningful ideas forward. As Belsky thoroughly laid out, the importance of action steps is the very fact that they cause you to make moves. "No Action Steps, no action, no results."Â
I am currently working on my own organization and physically writing out action steps with the help of my lovely iPad -- the little things that help me stay inspired, motivated, and make things happen. "I believe if you don't write it down, it doesn't register." "Attraction breeds loyalty."
