Like wdym we have:

- A single father, who treats his children as equals and with the utmost love and respect

- Aformentioned father being the perfect representation of healthy, secure masculinity

- Highlighting father on daughter sexual assault/abuse and the traumatic impacts it can have on others;

- Which leads me onto the highlighting of woman on man sexual assault due to aforementioned trauma

- A lawyer ACTUALLY DOING HIS FUCKING JOB and not showing bias nor prejudice in his defence

- A town that, while still struggling with racism, absolutely can see how diabolical and disgusting it was for an innocent black man to be (unintentionally) put to death as he was

- Stemming from that point, the representation of a deeply racist individual, who through it all is still disgusted by this result (that guy that runs the newspaper; I forgot his name)

- Cal being treated as an equal in the Finch household, and a woman to be respected

I could keep going on and on and on but this is just what comes to mind as I'm rewatching and about to reread for the millionth fucking time.

There is a reason this is my favourite book to ever be written. The themes. The depth. The REALNESS of it all.

and then!! he shows up at the press conference the next morning and she has that moment of "oh no he knew all along and he's just going to make a ton of money off the story he got from me. our time together didn't mean anything to him at all" like you can see it on her face that her whole world is falling apart but she's got to be cool and calm in front of all the other reporters
