A favourite what-if of mine is what if Wylan could read.

What if Wylan really was a spoiled rich brat. What if he had parents who were proud of him. Would Jan attend his concerts. Would he have found something else to criticise his son about. What-ifs, what ifs? It is my favourite what-if because it is Wylan's biggest what-if too.

i've thought about this as well and im absolutely certain that if it wasn't one thing, it'd be another

because realistically jan is not actually abusing wylan because of his dyslexia, that's just an excuse

abusers are abusive, period. nobody is "driven to abuse." if someone becomes abusive, then they always had that capacity in them and it was never going to stay hidden

no matter the circumstances, jan van eck has always been and will always be an abuser

he frames it as being attributed to wylan's dyslexia, but that's just a way to defer the blame and make it seem like the fault lies in wylan

this is going to sound completely awful, but i firmly believe that there is no universe in which jan van eck loves his son

with him as his father, wylan was always destined to have been unloved

i want to talk abt crow heights

personally, i think that matthias should be no shorter than 6'5 but no taller than 6'6 bc thatd be egregious, jesper should at least 6'4 but shorter than matthias, nina is no taller than 6'2 but no shorter than 6'0, kaz is 5'11, wylan is no shorter than 5'7 but no taller than 5'11, and inej no taller than 5'3 but no shorter than 4'10

don't have super strong opinions about kuwei but im thinking 6'0, 5'9, or 5'6, nothing in between [edit: just finished rereading soc + kuwei's actually described as being noticeably shorter than wylan, so im gonna say he's 5'6. but if we're disregarding the books, i've become very attached to the idea of kuwei being 6'0]

i also think that jan van eck is no taller than 5'10, pekka rollins is no shorter than 6'0, and colm fahey is no shorter than 5'10 but no taller than 6'1

aditi was no shorter than 6'0 but no taller than 6'3, marya is no shorter than 5'6 but no taller than 5'11, and alys is no taller than 5'8 but no shorter than 5'5

edit: forgot jarl brum. in the book nina said that he's basically the same height as her, probably a little taller. but personally, i believe that he is 1 inch shorter than nina at all times. this is nonnegotiable for me, idk about canon

but the only thing i truly, madly, deeply care about is nina being taller than kaz

typing this all out is giving psychopharmacologist vibes. take the round blue ones with food, but not with the oblong white ones, the white ones with the round yellow ones, but not with the trapezoidal green ones type shit

How Bruce never actually put his kids in line for their tone deaf behaviour, like sure he loves Duke, but he doesn't really understand what he deals with nor does he make an effort to do so.

upon further inspection, ive come to the conclusion that they do best suit orpheus and eurydice, granted that nina is orpheus and matthias is eurydice

and, after thinking a lot, i actually can lowkey see how wesper could be them as well, but exclusively jesper as orpheus and wylan as eurydice

regardless, nina and matthias fit best

and kanej could totally be hades and persephone

i mean, not even "could be"; they kind of literally are. my only hold up is that kaz is not sleazy like that and he isnt the same brand of shitty that hades is
