You’re not quite sure how your classes got so popular. When you started teaching here a decade ago, you didn’t even have a full schedule. Now suddenly enough students have enrolled in art that they have to hire a part-time teacher to cover the other two classes. You don’t mind helping him out a bit, do you? He’s a great artist, but just retired from a very different career, so he’s doing his own courses in the evening to get his full certification. He’d be teaching the two freshman classes. You could do those in your sleep, so sharing your plans and materials is no hardship for you. You have to wonder though— What kind of job would someone retire from just to go through the trouble of becoming a high school teacher? In this economy?
