When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Roopi and I were supposed to shoot at sunset on a beautifully "forecasted" evening. People lately have been asking me, "Where did you learn how to do that?". I take it as a wonderful compliment. I smile and blush and say "I don't know..". Well, I can go through and describe the thousands of hours that I've put into hiking and photographing my favorite places, or how I've begged my friends to let me photograph them, or how I put adds out on Craigslist and Facebook to meet anyone willing to let me take their picture. I can mention the countless hours spent in #Lightroom and #photoshop learning, experimenting, deleting and starting all over. I can mention the hours upon hours of YouTube videos I've watched to understand simple techniques. But I don't say anything like that. I simply say "I don't know". Although the true reason that I know anything about #photography is due to my father. He let me ruin roll after roll of expensive film. He developed dud after dud. He taught me how to use his fully manually 35 year old 35mm Nikon #camera. He taught me about light and most importantly... FOCUS. He ended up giving me the camera because it was old and outdated and I still have to this day and cherish it like daughter would treasure her mothers ring. I began to understand the concepts of #light, #framing, and #focus all thanks to my father. So thanks dad. Thanks for teaching me something that I truly #love and am so undeniably passionate about. I am a #photographer starting out on my own, taking any opportunity that comes my way. This last opportunity was probably my most rewarding. I compare my #photos today to the ones from a few years ago and the difference is almost unbelievable. The support that I've received from my friends and family has been overwhelming and extremely reassuring. So much in fact that I've decided to pursue photography full time. There is something to be said about #models. One may think that all they ever have to do is stand around and look #pretty but it turns out that there is so much more. I had the opportunity to work with @tanpreetparmar and she was amazing! This was my first time meeting Tanpreet and she looked like the #beautiful girl next door. Naturally beautiful, positive, and glowing with confidence. We shared a few ideas and came to an agreement for our shoot. The moment I put my #camera to my eye Tanpreet transformed from "Girl next door" to #supermodel. Without exaggeration or hesitation she moved in sync with flash of my light. Every click of my #shutter was her cue to flow into another pose. It felt seamless,effortless, it felt beautiful. This photo was shot with a #Canon #50mm f1.8 #lens mounted on a #Canon #7D body. I used a Canon speed lite strapped with a #GaryFong #defuser to brighten up the dark side of her face. ISO 200, SHUTTER 1/250, f2.8, flash set to 1/8 power. (at Cresent Beach)

Make the most out of every #opportunity. If someone has an idea, instead of criticizing it and judging them, try listening and encouraging them. You never know what will happen. Perhaps you'll find yourself intrigued and completely committed to working towards something greater than yourself. On that note... This is typical of #Vancouver. There is a 99.99% that you will see one of these giant #boats either parked in the #bay (#Englishbay), or cruising under the #LionsGate #bridge. At first you may think that it's an eyesore, but eventually you realize that it's just part of the #beautiful #scenery. (at Lions Gate Bridge)

Viewed from the #Queensborough #bridge, looking down at the #train #tracks gives you a sense of wonder. What can be in all those #containers??? Hundreds and thousands of them just #parked #waiting for something. (at Queensborough Bridge)

They hang around, they gull, they steal your lunch and you always see them eating whatever they can find. #Seagulls are a #bird that most of us don't really consider to be #rare or #beautiful. Fortunately for me, this seagull gave me an opportunity to get so close and take so many photos that I've change my mind about these #birds. Looking at their extremely detailed and perfectly groomed plumage has given me a new perspective on these birds. Besides, imagine all the rotten food that would be lying around on the streets if these guys weren't there to clean it up. Consider them to be a natural street cleaning team. (at Canada Place)

A #beautiful view of the #cloud cover #ocean. I was walking along the sidewalk that I had never considered. I've driven by it hundreds of times but never had I thought about walking it. This spot sits just a kilometer or two from #Wreck #Beach and a stone throw away from #UBC #Campus. I always walk down to the beach to take #photographs of the sunset but this time I decided to shoot from the road above. Turns out that I was pleasantly surprised. (at UBC - Wreck Beach)
