4 Color Process T-Shirts

Printing on your T-Shirt with plan text is great… But Some of our customers want a Full Color Experience with their message. We can print up to 6 colors on a single garment. The image shown actually uses only 4. Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and White. We incorporate the Black from the Shirt to achieve a dynamic image with unbelievable color.

So it was going to be up to us at iSignShop to achieve the desired look with a combination of ink, screen, and pressure settings. This usually does not yield a constant print quality, especially for large run projects.

Had the designer implemented the distressed theme for the t-shirt, when creating the art we would have used our normal ink and pressure settings with a higher mesh screen and lower pressure settings thus all the t-shirts would have printed exactly the same.

So we spoke to the customer and assured him that we could still achieve his desired results but we would have to utilize some variations from our normal practices.

Printing White Ink on a Dark T-Shirt

We went with a water based ink instead of our usual Silky White. The Silky white ink we have is great for solid white prints. As it produces a smooth lay that is very bright. Because the design required a vintage (Faded) appeal the water based ink would penetrate the t-shirt and some of the dye from the shirt would naturally “Bleed” through. Next we used a variation of pressure setting that variety of passes creating a sample of shirts for the customer to review. Later on the customer came by our facility and reviewed the options. After selecting the variation he wanted we ran the job.

In the end the water based ink did really well, it also provided a much smoother finished print.

His priority when printing was to achieve a patriotic color scheme that “pops” off the shirt with vivid colors. He also wanted a comfortable uni-sex shirt that is “soft.” Finally since Prejudiced Against Lazy is a brand he wanted custom tagging which required us to find these shirts that included tear away labels so he could brand his design.

We selected the DISTRICT Mens Perfect Tri Crew Tee DM130 with pull tags.

Because this was a Dark colored shirt all colored inks (Red & Blue) applied would require a white under base. Mr. Webb also asked that the print on the shirt be smooth and not heavy. So we choose to use our Silky Low Bleed White for all of the White location. Including the under base as well as the Text. Instead of using one screen for both white printed text and the under base, decided to use two screens. This would means that there would be a Screen used for the Under base, and a separate screen for the White Text. This ensured the White Text printed on the Shirt would have maximum opacity. In total we used 4 Screens to print his t-shirts, one red, one blue, one for the white text and one for the white under base.

After printing, the final result looked great. Mr. Webb was pleased with the vivid colors on the darker t-shirt.

We offered another option to him that he might find valuable. We could take the shirt after printing and heat press the ink to give the print a “Soft and Glossy” look and feel. After presenting him with a finished example of the upgrade he liked the improved shirt.

The final result looked fantastic.

Manual Screen Printed T-Shirts

In this post we wanted to share the purpose of having our manual screen printer, its features, and best uses.

Manual Screen Printing uses the same processes that our Automatic press uses. The key benefits of using the Manual press for printing t-shirts are: lower minimums, simpler set-up’s, tear-downs, and user control (Pressure applying ink).

When printing lower quantity runs of T-Shirts, 24 – 72 pieces some customers art design will benefit by using a manual press. This ensures each print applied by the operator has the look, color, feel and texture they wanted for their t-shirt. With any manual process some variations can occur, especially over longer runs. The simpler set up and tear down allows production savings to be passed to the customer in price savings.

Post production T-Shirt prints

A huge advantage with printing T-Shirts with iSignShop is that screens are saved for a minimum of 2-weeks. So repeat orders for short runs that may have been set up on our automatic can now be reprocessed prior to reclaiming the screen. So if someone wants  to order another shirt 5 days after your order was completed, call us and we are happy to run another batch of t-shirts. We typically run plastisol inks, so the ink will not dry until processed in our heat tunnel so the additional shirt ink will not be different from the original production.
