Please stop saying people only ship Lottienat because theyâre attractive. This has got to be the most shallow and overused argument I see on here. First of all, how insulting is that to the other girls? Why do you need to insult your own ship as a gotcha against Lottienat? And letâs be real, there is not a single person in this entire cast who is not conventionally attractive.
For me, Lottienat is compelling because itâs rich with complexity. Theyâre narrative foils: Lottie embodies faith, intuition, and surrender, while Nat represents reason, resistance, and pragmatism. Yet despite those differences, they keep gravitating toward each other, caught between tension and wanting to understand each other. Thatâs what makes the ship so fascinating; not just that they look good together, but that their relationship illuminates the core struggles of the show itself: belief versus doubt, surrender versus control, isolation versus connection.
Their dynamic is layered with jealousy, longing, and unspoken care, but what makes it truly stand out is how it draws out sides of both characters that rarely surface anywhere else. With Nat, physical intimacy is almost always tied to self-destruction or transactional relationships, yet with Lottie, we see her willingly lean into it. She lays her head in Lottieâs lap, embraces her, buries her face into her neck. Those gestures are small, but for Nat, theyâre monumental. They signal a rare sense of safety and vulnerability, a trust she doesnât extend to anyone else besides Travis.
I love that Lottie is always protecting Nat, whether itâs placating Shauna in order to get her to spare Natâs life or literally kidnapping her to keep her from taking her own life. I love that Lottie represents a kind of nurturing, forgiveness, and surrender that Nat fights because she doesnât believe she deserves it. I love that we finally see her give in to it in the adult timeline. And I love that Lottie is a major reason why Nat finally finds peace and a sense of happiness at the end of her life.
I love:
â˘Natalie comforting Lottie in the middle of the night when she canât stop thinking about the attic
â˘The bathtub scene
â˘How intently Lottie watches Nat drink her blood tea
â˘Lottie kissing Natâs hand to coronate her as the new Queen and Nat looking up at her with tears of gratefulness and awe in her eyes
â˘The fact that Lottie crowning Nat leader is the first time Natalie receives the appreciation and praise she has always craved and been deprived of
â˘Nat softly attempting to convince Lottie to get rescued with them
â˘How often Lottie defends Nat from the others
â˘How they both put on facades as a result of their fathersâ control and find authenticity in the wilderness
â˘Nat reverting to her younger self with her head in Lottieâs lap
â˘âYou can go deeper Natalieâ and all of those flirtatious little moments where Lottie comes up behind Nat and whispers in her ear, and how smitten Natalie looks every time
â˘Lottie guiding Nat towards sobriety and self-forgiveness
â˘Them dancing together around the fire
â˘Nat declining to dance with everyone else until Lottie offers her hand
â˘Lottie being the one Nat sees on that plane to comfort her as sheâs dying
Itâs perfectly fine if you donât personally ship Lottienat, no one is forcing you to. But dismissing Lottienat fans as shallow or only interested in aesthetics overlooks why so many people connect with their dynamic. Just because you donât personally see the depth there doesnât mean it isnât there. Everyone interprets the show and its relationships differently, and thatâs part of what makes fandom so interesting.
i canât believe no oneâs made a Lottienat edit with one of Courtneyâs songs yet. SOMEONE HAS TO DO IT
why is this so lottienat-coded?? ( please tell me i'm not the only one seeing it )
