Having your interests mocked as a kid and general low self esteem will have you insulting the things you like even when they're generally considered very good. Because you like it, and historically when you like something it's stupid and not worth anyone's time. So you will say nonsense like "I recommend this book/game/film, but it's okay if you hate it, it sucks, I really enjoyed it but that's because I'm an idiot" and you are recommending them the Citizen fucking Kane of that particular media type. And importantly: you need to stop doing this it is killing you

current headcannon rn is Jesper is really great with kids and itβs not a dealbreaker in a relationship but heβd really like to have a kid eventually. Kaz used to have a crush on a girl named Imogen.
How does nobody talk about her!? YOU GUYS, LISTEN TO ME.
So we all know about Saskia, the girl Kaz used to play with as a child.
And OF COURSE there will always forever be Inej.
But there was also Imogen.
Imogen, who's jeans would hang a little loosely on her hips, giving Kaz's imagination a wild turn.
Imogen, the girl Kaz had wished to touch.
TO TOUCH. ARE YOU GUYS WITH ME RIGHT NOW?
And he tried. Slowly, he tried to do most things without depending on his gloves, trying to teach himself to touch skin again.
He had tried for Imogen. Because he had a crush on her, he loved her smile, the way she had a gap between her teeth and he wanted to be able to touch her.
And it hadn't gone well.
He froze. Repulsed. Afraid. Defeated. Per Haskell had sent him off, along with another member of the Dregs they called "Teapot" to apparently beat up this one guy.
Kaz was supposed to tie the guy's hands behind his back and he tried to do it without his gloves protecting his hands.
And he froze. He wasn't able to do it, his grip loosened and the man ran away.
Teapot had beat the absolute crap out of Kaz, and Kaz didn't even stop him. He didn't even lift a finger, didn't make a sound.
It was punishment.
Needless to say, Mr. Brekker did indeed hunt the man himself and gave him a beating twice as worse than Teapot and Kaz had initially intended for him when they first caught him. When Kaz had failed.

to everyone saying jesper isn't a cat person, let's bffr: he had crushes on kaz AND wylan, two of the most cat coded mfers in the world. you cannot tell me he wouldn't be pspspspspsing down every alley trying to win over all of ketterdam's strays
Inej reminding herself that she is capable of surviving on her own and that she is good at what she does to a frightening degree in her POVs (either by reminiscing of her life in Ravka or by being the Wraith in Ketterdam) is such a... humane detail that I find very touching.
I think it really speaks to just how pervasive the effects of The Menagerie are, how she knows what she's been through led her to instinctively freeze or doubt her own capacity to react, and how she's still actively fighting to get back up from it.
