technically a doctor, functionally a socialite
alcoholic, depressed, gay (was in a serious relationship with Morgan's brother)
came to London once his rich parents cut him off and he had nowhere left to go

Hepsibah Brewster (she/her)

came to London after losing her son (he's still alive, but his rich estranged dad demanded custody and Hepsi didn't have the resources to refuse)
called "The Nice Lady" by the urchins, who will not clarify if this nickname is supposed to be ironic. shes nice to THEM

in a poly relationship with Ivy and Phoebe, although technically she's married to Theophilius (long story, they don't live together, but he IS the father of her child, so...)
post MotR, opened her own clothes shop and has been very successful
comes to London several years after the end of BoRM, realizes she's a woman after learning what trans people are
very demure, very mindful (shy and anxious, autistic but that diagnosis doesnt exist yet in 1899)

Percy Bullard (he/him)
half tiger on his father's side. he will not answer any questions about how that happened, beyond that he is not adopted
abrasive, rude, and widely disliked by his human peers (autistic)
also a little disliked by other cats because he's putting on airs, but he IS a cat and sometimes will buy them a fish or let them sleep in front of his fire, so its complicated.
his dad is a diplomat in Port Carnelian and his mom was a successful zee captain (until she went North and no one has seen her since). Percy lives by himself, a few houses down from the Fletcher-Brewster household
keeps a beautiful rose garden. his flowers are the most important thing in the world to him

hasnt come up in anything ive written and idk if it will but it's important to ME that the reason morgan and jacob can actually get together and be endgame is because hepsi is a fujo and thinks it would be pretty good if her husband slept with one of their hottest friends. this is also the main reason she tolerated eliot on the surface even though he was mean to her

The late 1800s were a time where a lot of shanghaiing was going on and the Neath strikes me as a terribly perfect place for thatβ Shanghaiing was the practice of just, abducting people to force them to be sailors, it happened a lot in the USA and England. They needed sailors and, well, you take a drunk guy out to sea and he doesn't have any choice but work or die.
The Neath offers a concerning possibility where a Surface sailor could abduct sailors, pass them off to a Neathly partner, and kill those who had been shanghai'dβ trapping them not only in service at zee, but also eternally to the Neath... Imagine waking up after a drunken night to learn you were taken to the underworld, killed, and now had to zail on a zee of monsters with no hope of ever returning home.
