ABERRATION.

Back in the days when the Playstation 2 was still young and games could be found in abundance in the many then-commonplace Blockbusters, I was browsing the shelves for rentals.  I must have been in middle school, maybe younger. In any case, I was too young to drive.

It was my mother who had driven me into the fluorescent paradise of the PS2 aisle, and it was my mother (whose gaming knowledge encompassed little more than Yoshi’s Cookies on the Super Nintendo) who pulled Guilty Gear XX off the shelf said, “how about this?” -- and then proceeded to destroy me, playing Jam Kuradoberi, when we got home.

Tonight marks the eve of the first anniversary of my mother’s passing.

Many of you have been followers of mine for a long time on other blogs, perhaps long enough to have been following me in the days leading up to her passing.  I didn’t go into detail then, and I won’t do so now. It’s enough to say that she is gone, and that to those of you who have been followers and friends throughout the past year and years, I appreciate all the good cheer and creativity you have shared. It has been a crutch to me in difficult times, and I hope you all realize that in what may seem like a very remote way, you have had a very real effect on another individual’s life, even if you have been unaware.  This is the magic you work each day, and continue to work even now.

Thanksgiving is approaching, and though it has become a somewhat contentious holiday (the political ramifications of its origin, inescapable), I hope that in the coming days you will find some quiet moment to reflect on those you love, and those who hold you dear.
