This wonderful winter furisode is covered with chrysanthemum, mums, bamboo, autumn leaves and the occasional water swirl–this places it square in fall, winter or early spring. That means it’s intended to be sold for graduation, which usually takes place in February!

I love the geometric obi with this kimono, adding a bit of red and violet but keeping the golden-cream color consistent to make sure the obi still matches and flows into the kimono. As you noticed right away, this furisode is taking advantage of turquoise and yellow-orange, which are complimentary colors in the Western color scheme. They chose blue and white zori (shoes) and a white juban (under-clothes) and tabi socks, but there is a slim pink eri collar carrying the red of the obi up toward the model’s face.

Mod 2: True story, I saw this Obi in Nagoya Station’s Takashimaya department store on my last trip to Japan. I still regret not buying it. (It was styled with a Christmas/snow theme at the time)
