LOVE AGAINST TIME: I CANāT WITH THIS SHOW (BUT PROBABLY NOT FOR THE REASON YOU THINK)
Honestly, Love Against Time is the PERFECT example of why I canāt watch dating shows weekly. I just ship SO QUICKLY and SO DEEPLY that the second my ship has issues, I get anxious and develop literal headaches. š
(Also, TW: this is genuinely one of the most difficult dating shows Iāve ever watched because these are real people with extremely difficult pasts, and you WILL just sit there and sob with them. But at the same time, I can imagine the experience being extremely freeing for them, and I think a lot of people watching might find solace in it too - seeing that theyāre not alone, that their experiences donāt make them unlovable, and that they CAN be loved.
Obviously, there are ethical questions around the premise as well. Like⦠does putting people with illnesses together unintentionally suggest that they can only find understanding or love with people who have similar experiences? Shared experiences can be incredibly important, but anything that risks further stigmatizing illness makes me a little uneasy too. I donāt think the show necessarily answers that question, and maybe it canāt. ANYWAY. BACK TO MY SUFFERING.)
WDYM ROBIN DIDNāT CHOOSE EITHER DOGON OR RYUNGI AND PUT ALL OF HER 100 MINUTES INTO JONGEUN???????????
Ryungi is a shame, but I DO understand her reasoning there - even if something about the whole thing leaves me a little unsettled.
BUT DOGON?????
The way Dogon approached that date. The way he took care of her. The way he was so attentive to her the ENTIRE TIME? UGH. He was BEYOND perfect. HOW IS THIS MAN REAL?
HOW CAN SHE JUST IGNORE HIM?????? ššš
At least give Dogon 50 minutes or SOMETHING?Robin, my girl, if those two boys hadnāt given you enough minutes, YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN SITTING IN THAT HOUSE.
So yeah. I now feel TERRIBLE for both Ryungi and Dogon.
And see? THIS IS MY PROBLEM.
Because obviously Robin is free to choose whoever she wants. She is an actual human being and not a character in a drama whose romantic arc exists for my personal satisfaction. I KNOW THIS.
AND YET. Unfortunately, my brain creates a ship and/or adopts a person and immediately decides that I am now personally responsible for ensuring their eternal happiness.
So now Iām sitting here blaming Robin for Dogonās ALLEGED HEARTBREAK with absolutely no common sense whatsoever. THE NEXT EPISODE IS NOT EVEN OUT YET.
Iām sorry š
My heart was simply not created to survive my favourite genre of variety shows.
Iāll just wait for this show to END, watch the final episode, find out which couples actually make it, choose my ship accordingly, and THEN go back and watch the whole thing from the beginning.
Is it the complete opposite of how a dating show is supposed to be watched? Absolutely. But apparently I need to know my ship is SAFE before I emotionally invest in them because I simply do not have the constitution for this. š No uncertainty. No heartbreak. No me developing a stress headache because two strangers didnāt allocate their 100 minutes according to the romantic narrative I had already written for them in my head.
I JUST NEED TO WATCH THESE SHOWS IN PEACE LET ME LIVE.
