It’s been confirmed since the anime began that Takahashi Rumiko is heavily involved with the anime and the director of Yashahime confirmed it early on in the series. From this interview,we clearly see 3 things:

-TR has given her APPROVAL for this series to be part of the Inuyasha universe as a sequel & that she likes the idea of its existence very much

-That she is SUPERVISING the anime and checking the scripts therefore everything you see on the screen is approved by her

-She went as far as creating an art herself of Sesshoumaru & Inuyasha with the twins and Moroha + the designs of the characters.

Here's why:

So let's say that Rin was 8 when we first meet her, yes? (Ppl argue that she could've been 10, but let's make her younger). Kagome returned from the well 3 years later. So that makes Rin 12. Now, why 12 instead of 11? Cause an entire year has gone by since the beginning to the end of Inuyasha. How do we know this? Due to Kagome's books and exams (from tests, to exams, to books changing from Algebra II to Algebra III, to admission exams to uniform changes to summer and winter clothing. You cannot have SO many in a short period of time. So a whole school year must have gone by.).

Furthermore, in Japan ppl graduate at 18-19. So there is high probability that Kagome was 16 when the well closed (the first chaps began when she was 15). And so Rin cannot be younger than 12 during the last chapter of Inuyasha.

Kay, then we have the root head event (first chap of Yashahime) that was half a year after the last chap of Inuyasha the Final Act; so Rin was 12-13 years old. Time goes by folks.

Fast forward to chapter 15 of HNY, Riku CLEARLY STATES that the birth of the Yashahime was 4 years after the Root Head event (quote: "the story began 18 years before" aka a month after Root Head event. Kaede mentioned this. And the Yashahime are 14: 18-14=4) So doing once more the math: RIN IS AT LEAST 17.

Now, to all haters that are going to say that THAT is still young. LET ME REMIND YOU ALL THAT SANGO GAVE BIRTH TO HER TWINS AT 17 AS WELL AND NOBODY IS SAYING A DAMN THING ABOUT THAT.

Further proof that everything is more than alright: Kagome. Kagome is a modern person; she is like us. And she was so cool with this. Remember the first chapters of Inuyasha when Miroku encountered a 14 year old girl and she wanted to have a child with him and Kagome looked so uncomfortable? Well, Kagome certainly did not look uncomfortable when Rin gave birth. So Rin's age HAS to make sense to her.

One more thing....maybe you guys don't remember this tiny detail...but... this is FEUDAL ERA. Not 2021. Customs are different so GROW UP and DEAL WITH IT.
