Maintenance required

rules are scary but unfortunately we need them for things to go right!! And since there’s no money changing hands and this is all volunteer, things should be pretty chill. Also because I’m kinda making this up as I go along. Shh.

First things first- rules. As usual, use your common sense for most of this, you’re smart people.

No NSFW. Nothing explicitly sexual and not even non-sexual nudity.

As far as ships go; all good, just keep it within things confirmed in canon. That would be Lillium x Iris, and Begonia x Heather.

Gore cannot exceed what is shown in the comic. No entrails, but blood and semi-graphic wounds are fine.

No weird shit. This goes without saying, yet I still gotta say it: No bigoted messages, no incest, no fetishization, again, use common sense.

Last of all, I reserve the right to turn down a submission, but I will not do so lightly and will only do so if it breaks an aforementioned rule. In which case, I’ll contact you, telling you I couldn’t accept it and exactly why- so if you send it back revised, I’d be happy to have it!!! <3

Now, onto the numbers!! Once again, categorized for your convenience.

Specifications:

Art, Cosplay, & Edits:

Art, edits, and cosplay pictures generally follow the same guidelines. Art and edits are eligible for full page spreads, cosplay phots are not.

A minimum of 1000x1000 px for standard pieces as well as edits and cosplay photos, though it can be any shape/dimension as long as each side is at least 1000 pixels.

150 dpi or higher

Spreads should be 8.5 x 11 inches, 150 dpi

Comics technically fall under ‘spreads’, so each page should be the same, but I recommend you include a quarter inch border or so so it displays correctly. Comics can be a maximum of two pages.

All art must be at least colored and minimally shaded, with some sort of background. It can be an abstract pattern or simple shape, but put something please!

Traditional will be accepted but it must be a high quality scan and fit the dimensions.

I will accept previously-made pieces, but in the spirit of things and in order to increase the specialty of the zine, I humbly ask you to do a fresh one :-)

Writers

Each story must have a title along with the body.

The minimum is 500 words, maximum is 5000.

Swearing is allowed, as long as it isn’t a slur- even if the slur reclaimed by a group you’re a part of.

Submission deadlines and amount

Submissions close May 10th!!

If you submit a piece on or very near the deadline, you will have three days to fix it past deadline if it doesn’t meet rules. Otherwise, no submissions past deadline.

Each contributor can submit up to two separate pieces

Cosplayers can submit up to three pictures of the same cosplay under one “submission”. If they do a second submission it must be of a different cosplay.

Similarly, if an editor wants to make a matching ‘set’ they can, but again it maxes out at three. They must have a clear theme, though.

If you’re not a writer want to title your submission, feel free to, and I’ll include it! But it is not required unless you’re a writer.

By now you’ve hopefully all caught Vel’s announcement, with a lot of news, but concluding that she isn’t giving up on ctc. So neither will we!! Though I have more or less given up on tumblr. sorry :-) but I’m active on ctc updates and other social media!

So I’d like to make a return, for however long, to put together a CTC zine. This is a project I’ve been thinking about (with fo) since summer, but life is messy etc etc. I never got around to it, but this seems like the perfect time! with the comic in indefinite suspension, I think it would be fantastic to look back on all the hard work one person alone has done, and how much we’ve appreciated it. 

It will be pdf-only, no-cost. There will also be no cuts. The purpose is to compile everyone’s fanwork in one nice book and share with each other! So it’s technically a zine, but more like a community compilation.

As some of you know, I’m currently attending art college as a freshman while balancing my freelance work and webcomic. I chose to go because I believed that receiving a diploma would provide me with a sure fire job, and because I received a scholarship- making me feel as though I shouldn’t waste this opportunity. I’ve learned a lot throughout the year, but I found it extremely depressing and unfulfilling. Still, I stuck with it because college isn’t always about doing what you like. However, my body started to break down under the strain of video editing classes and my tuition continuously hiked up in price. Discussions about artists being successful without going to college also circulated. Artists that I knew and/or befriended spoke openly about how they managed without an arts degree, and I began seriously considering what I want to do with my college situation.

This is a really big subject that’s been covered quite a lot all over youtube and other word docs, but here’s my personal perspective on running an online store? :D

Starting

I myself use Storenvy, but a bunch of my artist friends use Etsy (and I’ve been considering making the change myself!) Both platforms have a “marketplace” where other customers can find your products, and both take fees from you every time you sell. You can weigh both options and choose according to what you prefer. (I think you have to pay storenvy like, one dollar before you can sell.)

For storenvy, everything is pretty self explanatory! You can even automatically print shipping labels online fast because Storenvy is partnered with shipping easy :D

In terms of promoting yourself, Etsy’s marketplace really helps! For storenvy I don’t place myself in the marketplace because I’ve been doing just fine promoting myself online, but it may be something you want to look into

Organizing

If you’ve got 20+ items, it’s best to split your items into different categories like “prints”/”buttons” etc! I also think that the important and popular items should go on top, like deals :D Here’s my shop for reference

excuse my ignorance but i just got introduced to ctc like. a good couple hours ago and was wondering if begonia and heather are canonically together or if it just developed into a Really Big Ship within the fandom,, this might be a foolish question but i was just wondering sksksk,, also you’re so talented, thank you for working so hard!!

You’re good! It’s just a big ship in fandom ig? I also feed into it, though because I’ve drawn the ship before. It doesn’t necessarily reflect canon, though.

Do you find it weird in any capacity when there are canonical errors in fan oc’s for ctc? You know, like, fats about the universe that you haven’t explained yet, so people make canonical errors. Do you find that weird, or off putting in any capacity? Or do you just enjoy the fact that people like your story? I love your art by the way! (You make hair look like cotton candy!)

I don’t find it weird, more like amused? and elated! Because I love reading theories, different interpretations, and I’m so grateful for people being interested in the universe enough to deviate and expand on it! It’s very fun! Also I haven’t explained a lot at all so it can’t really be helped haha (Thank you!!!)
