Iris smiled politely as she greeted a few of the customers that walked by her. She’d worked at the little herbal store for a few years, to the point where she’d started to have regular customers that’d come just to see her. It was one of the only soothing things in her life now. Something to keep her mind busy during the day. Her fingers moved effortlessly over the shelves as she tidied them up, pausing when she felt another customer come up behind her.

“Hi; how can I help…” she began as she turned, her words dying in her throat when she saw him. The years had aged him as they had her, but it was still him. 

“Sebas…tian?” she whispered, looking up at him in show, tears slowly forming in her eyes.

Sebastian could not stop the chuckle that left his lips as he looked at her, seeing the woman she had become. She was no longer the terrified girl that he had first met in the halfway home all those years ago. He was also no longer the sixteen year old who just had enlisted in the military. The years had changed them, certainly, but they had not been changed so much that they no longer remembered the other.

“In person, it has been far too long, Ris,” her nickname still felt perfect when he spoke it, his voice a deeper tone than when he last called her by it. 

“Everyday,” she murmured, sniffling softly.

She could feel the eyes of the customers and the other workers on them, but she didn’t care. For the first time in years, she felt whole.
