Jarod Curley after his promotion to principal dancer of American Ballet Theatre!
I love it when promoted dancers turn and bow to the rest of the company, it's such a perfect moment.

Ryoma Gudelev, Yana Peneva, and Alexei Orohovsky promoted to first soloists at Mariinsky!
Surprised it happened so quickly, but it makes sense after their victory at MIBC’26.
I believe they are some of the youngest first soloists in the history of Mariinsky and for a good reason!
Antonio Casalinho - my prediction for global fame. He was 23 years old last month.
Jake Roxander promoted to principal dancer at ABT!!!
I usually post about Mariinsky, but I couldn’t help myself this time.
I am so so happy for Roxander. I genuinely think ABT has the most exciting dancers right now.
What a performance!
The audience was amazing too. I haven’t seen such reactions in a long time. The atmosphere was absolutely electric!
I hope we continue seeing such energy in the theatre.
It really is ABT’s time right now.
Two upcoming dancers at Mariinsky
Sergei Kalinich
Graduated from Bolshoi Ballet Academy in 2025, and apparently (!) a dancer Bolshoi really wanted! Thankfully, he chose Mariinsky.
Wise choice, honestly, given the theatre severely lacks male dancers.
Kalinich has been rehearsing the Don Quixote PDD with Lea Thomasson.
At first, I thought they were going to MIBC, but I see their names are not on the list.
Are we looking at a new double debut? That would be so exciting!!
Somebody asked Lea (on Instagram) whether she is gonna debut as Kitri and she basically said, “Only God knows for now.”
So something is definitely brewing…
Yaroslav Borovitsky
Graduated from Boris Eifman in 2025 and is being coached by Sarafanov.
Ideal physique and tall. Likes to turn a lot!
He looked great with Kuznetsova in the premiere of Brilliant Divertissement at Mariinsky. Not a meaty role though.
Borovitsky also danced the lead in Leningrad Symphony alongside Kondaurova.
The audience reception was nice.
Many curious eyes on this young dancer!
I’d like to see more of his jumps to make any conclusions.

Candidates for XV MIBC are out!!!
Some names you might be familiar with:
1. Crystal Huang
2. Ekaterina Pichkova
3. Yana Peneva
4. Alexei Orohovsky
5. Ryoma Gudelev
6. Sakura Nagai
7. Daria Pankova
8. Anna Bylkova
9. Xiner Liu
10. Yeonjoo Jung
Many candidates are from China and South Korea! Wonder who will be the winners this year?
I will post the link to the full list in the comment section (somehow this post was getting flagged as mature so…)
...is the bolshoi putting in the effort to make their new productions look ugly and cheap, or...?
I want the ridiculous, decadent Sleeping Beauty back!
Lyubov Olylmpievna Kunakova has passed away at the age of 75. May she rest in peace.
She coached so many of the theater’s stars and upcoming talents. The impact at the Mariinsky will be felt for a long time: Tereshkina, Illiushkina, Evseeva, Kuznetsova, Savalieva…I’m sure there are more. 🕊️

Things are finally looking up for Bulanova! ♥️
And Minchul Jeon and May Nagahisa will finally dance together in R&J (31 May).
I am so so happy for them. They look so good together.
Don’t know if Nagahisa and Jeon will dance together now that Nagahisa is injured :(

Makar Mikhalkin in Giselle.
I legit think I’ve found my favorite young Albrecht.
AND he does the entrechats sixes!
hot take but I think entrechats sixes should be mandatory for male principals just like fouettés are for women.
Really impressed with Maria Khoreva's recent Raymonda. She was always technically great for this role, but I saw some huge development in her performance stylistically and maturity-wise this time around. I also really enjoyed her partnership with Minchul Jeon! Here is a video of her Act 3 variation. The instagram account koryushka_neva also has some videos up of this performance if you're curious .
Alexander Sergeev has just been promoted to Principal
Way overdue! I thought it would never happen to be honest. My thinking was after two decades at the Mariinsky that ship had sailed, so it warms my heart that he’s been given this recognition. But why not an on stage promotion in front of an audience?? That would be so fitting for an artist who is a so beloved by theatre goers and global audiences alike!! ✨
