the reason why joss whedon’s inaccurate characterization and poor writing with clint barton in avengers pisses me off so much is because whedon misses the entire point of clint that makes him such a longstanding and well loved member of the marvel comic universe. clint is talented, enormously so. he’s the best archer in the world, excellent at hand to hand combat, he’s intelligent, and on and on that puts this little mortal man on the same level to be on a team with a super soldier, a god, a total screaming genius with a superscience suit, the most capable assassin and spy ever trained, and a hyperstrong rage monster.

but the thing is, even with all that, clint is the most unfailingly human member of the team. clint hides his intelligence, he gets himself into fights where he’s outnumbered and then gets hit in the head, he tells terrible jokes or makes puns in the middle of a fight, he gets cut up and beat up and ends most fights covered in bandages or in the hospital. he’s disabled, he has hearing aids. he isn’t this Badass Action Hero w/ Included Bow. he’s talented and capable, but he trips, he gets punched, he gets cut, he gets shot, he runs out of arrows, he gets knocked down. he isn’t motivated by revenge or a need to prove himself or a sense of duty or an overdeveloped sense of right and wrong. he’s motivated by the fact that he wants to help, because he can, because he used to lead a shitty life, because he should.

clint barton is just as much average joe as he is an avenger. he’s a disaster and a hero. clint barton’s not the cookie cutter male action hero that joss whedon painted him as in avengers. he’s not a silent broody badass, stalwart hero archetype, solid shield agent.he’s so much more. he’s a fuck up. he’s trying.

I’m sorry to disturb your tumbling, but there is something I need to say that is totally outrageous. I would really appreciate it if you took the time to read this post.

Today my brother walked a block down the street to go pick some things up from our local Albertsons. My little brother Dante is eight years old. More than capable of going to the store a block away from our house. When he had finished his shopping, a police officer approached him and told him that he would take him home. The officer did as was said and brought him right back to the house I’m sitting in now. My mother, Tricia, had a very long “conversation” with the officer. He started off by saying that no laws had been broken. She clearly was not being detained or in any form of trouble. This officer proceeded to criticize her parenting. I think that’s fair enough. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on how to raise children. However, when you being throwing out insults and threats to a mother while wearing your badge, I don’t think your very much of a officer of the law, much less a man. He continued on with how he felt my mother should deal with her children, calling her “ignorant” and telling her just because that’s the way she was brought up doesn’t mean it’s right. He told my mother that if something were to “happen”, he would take away her children. And if he has probable cause, he can. Washington State has Child Protective Services (CPS), but only has one agent per county. It takes them 30-90 days to start on a case because of the high demand for the work they do. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t terrified I’m going to be ripped away from my home in the next few days. My mother isn’t pressing charges against this “man” and for that, I am extremely disappointed. She is now working to get these insane laws changed. I feel that no person without any form of degree and proper training should be able to assess if children need to be removed from their homes. I hope to God something good comes out of this experience and that my mom changes her mind about pressing charges on this officer. I find it absolutely astonishing that people like this are the same people that are supposed to work to protect us. I’m not saying all police officers are like this, but it’s becoming more and more frequent that they are. Something needs to change. Something needs to be done so things like this stop happening. Innocent people are getting shot, kids taken away from acceptable homes. This is NOT right. This is NOT justice. This IS abuse of power and I am so beyond sick of it that I am standing up and doing something about it. I’m going to make noise. Shine lights in the darkest corners. I bluntly refuse to stand for this, and neither should you. Stand with me. Make noise! Even if it’s just a simple reblog. I want this message to get to the right ears.

Warped Tour

Yesterday I went to my very first Warped Tour. Let me tell you right now, it was the single most beautiful experience of my fifteen years so far. All those people gathered to forget their problems and listen to some kickass music. It didn't matter who you were. Everyone was smiling and talking to each other like long lost friends. I think it's so amazing that hundreds of people can all come together to share the love and life music gives us. It doesn't matter what's going on at home or in your life because in that moment we were each other's family and we were each other's best friends. We all deal with the problems but for this day, this one beautiful day, none of it matters because we have each other. I just think that's something so perfect and glorious it had to be shared.
