I Read and Write Things

It’s been really nice to meet you

And getting to know you these last few days.

And if you’d like to keep in contact

Then I think that would be just great.

And maybe you can write to me and then

We can be like pen-pals

But I suppose people don’t really write letters anymore

Cause it’s normally all emails; which is a shame.

I understand that you live there and I live all the way over here

But you’re more than welcome to drop by anytime if you’re ever near.

If you need a place to crash you could have my sofa bed

But my real bed is pretty big really so you could share with me instead.

And if you wanted to stay more than one night

Like two or three or four

You wouldn’t even need to ask

You could even stay for more.

If after a while you want to move your things in bit by bit

Then I’ll empty half a shelf for you where your toothbrush could sit.

And if after a while you wanted to move yourself in all at once

Then I think that would be OK, too, and I would jump at the chance.

If after thinking about it you’d want to go halfsies on a pet

Then it would have to be a dog cause I’m allergic to cats.

If after a few weeks you would think about getting married

And picking out spots for honeymoon and over the threshold to be carried

And a few weeks after that we could think about family options

But if one of us were barren, we could look into adoption.

Cause there’s a lot of children out there that don’t have a mom or dad

But I reckon we’d make good ones or at least ones not so bad.

And we could get jobs and promotions doing things we really like

And buy our kid the stuff you buy like dolls and skates and bikes

And I’ll teach him or her to ride it like my daddy did for me

And you could put the bandage on when they fall and graze their knee.

And we’ll send them off to university and comfort each other when they’re gone

I’ll hold you in my arms and tell you term time’s not that long.

And I’ll make you know your sacrifice was never left unnoticed

And the kid we had and raised together was worth not getting promoted.

And maybe you’ll get irritated by my constant snoring

But then again maybe I would find your stories boring

But me and you side by side walking hand in hand

Would know even little arguments are all part of the plan.

When we’re old and fat and grey with twinkling in our eyes

I’ll love you and forgive you for looking at those other guys.

I’ll bet spending my life with you would make us want to live forever

And maybe we’ll be lucky and our lives would end together.

For knowing you these last few days has turned my life around

יום אחד, הפרעוש, הצרצר והחרגול רצו לראות מי יכול לקפוץ הכי גבוה.

הם הזמינו את כולם לראות מי מהם קופץ הכי גבוה.

"כפרס, מי שיקפוץ הכי גבוה, יוכל להתחתן עם הבת שלי" אמר המלך "שכן חבל שיקפצו סתם".

הפרעוש עמד ראשון וזקוף, הוא היה מנומס מאוד וקד קידה לכל עבר, שכן היה רגיל לחברת בני אדם. אז בא הצרצר, שהיה כבד יותר, ולבש מדים ירוקים, שכן משפחתו באה ממצרים. הוא קד והצדיע למוזמנים.

גם הפרעוש וגם הצרצר אמרו את שמם בקול רם, שכן ראו עצמם ראויים להתחתן עם הנסיכה.

החרגול לא אמר שום דבר. "אני מקווה שהוא לא חולה", אמר הכלב של המלך.

התחרות החלה: הפרעוש קפץ כל כך גבוה, שהוא נעלם מעין, והמלך הניח שהוא לא קפץ בכלל. הצרצר קפץ לחצי הגובה, אבל הוא קפץ הישר לתוך הפרצוף של המלך, והמלך הכריז שזו חוצפה גדולה ופסל אותו. אז נשאר רק החרגול, וכולם הסתכלו לראות מה יעשה – החרגול עמד, ועמד, ואז, קפץ קפיצה קטנה "הופה", הישר לחיקה של הנסיכה.

הכריז המלך "הקפיצה הגבוהה ביותר הייתה של זה שקפץ אל בתי, שכן זו הייתה הנקודה. צריך שכל כדי לחשוב על זה, והחרגול הראה שיש לו שכל." וכך התחתן החרגול עם הנסיכה.

"אני קפצתי הכי גבוה" אמר הפרעוש, "אבל בעולם הזה, צריך שישימו לב אליך אם אתה רוצה להצליח". אז הפרעוש התנדב לשרת בצבא, כדי לזכות בהרבה מדליות.

How many books have you read this year? So Far? I think none. I started about a dozen. Didn’t finish any. Unless you count children’s books that I read to my daughter, in which case, 6

Favorite celebrity and why? Barack Obama. I think he decided that he was going to do good, that he was going to play it like an Aaron Sorkin character, and I really love him for that.
