The thing behind the shower curtain is NOT an Amalgamate.
Okay, hear me out because I think I’m losing my mind over a bathtub. 🛁💀
We all remember that one creepy room in the True Lab in Undertale. The one with the shower curtain. As you get closer, something behind it starts shaking faster and faster. But when you open it? Empty.
The general consensus is that it’s an invisible Amalgamate or just a hallucination. But after playing Deltarune, I have a different theory. A "crackpot" theory, if you will.
What if that room was the testing ground for Entry Number 17?
We know Gaster was looking into "Darker yet darker" and "Photon readings negative." What if that bathroom isn't just dark? What if it’s a localized, unstable prototype of a Dark World?
The Mechanics: In Deltarune, Dark Worlds make inanimate objects come to life (Cards -> Guards, Toys -> Darkners).
The "Monster": The thing shaking behind the curtain isn't an Amalgamate. It’s the shower head (or the tap). It was trying to gain a form, trying to become a Darkner because of the "negative photons" in the room.
The Glitch: Since the room is unstable (it’s not a full Fountain, just a test), the object is glitching out.
Why it disappears: When Frisk opens the curtain, the observation changes (or light enters). The unstable "Dark World" state collapses. The "creature" didn't turn invisible or run away. It just turned back into a regular, inanimate shower tap.
It explains why the movement speeds up (instability increases as a Lightner/Soul approaches) and why there's nothing there afterwards. We aren't looking at an empty space; we are looking at the corpse of a potential Darkner that never got to fully exist.
Toby, please, tell me I'm not crazy.
