Here’s a collection of vintage prayers and praying imagery.
Head of Polyphemus. Greek or Roman, Hellenistic or Imperial Period, 150 B.C. or later. Dolomitic marble. Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
From MFA Boston:
This is the head of the one-eyed, man-eating Cyclops whom Odysseus finally outwitted and blinded. Here the monster is in a peaceful mood, either waiting to receive the cup of wine offered him by Odysseus, or, more likely, gazing love-struck at the indifferent sea nymph Galatea. The head comes from a sculptural group that might have adorned a public fountain or a luxurious seaside villa. The type originated in the second century B.C., yet the lively and direct style of this piece makes difficult to judge whether it is a contemporary variant or a Roman copy.

Gordon White was the quintessential Renaissance man of the Occult and related disciplines. It feels hackneyed to frame his legacy this way, and I will stand by the truth of this framing anyway. I’ve learned a lot from his books and his podcasts. The Chaos Protocols is my go-to these days. It appeals to my bargain basement magician’s heart. Pieces of Eight is a close second. It was through Gordon that I stopped feeling guilty when my ritual workings were not always concerned with lofty spiritual goals. Day-to-day, there is an economic reality to life that I need to attend to. The game is rigged against everyone. Finally, I have the right to self-determination and self-defense. I must look after my well-being at all levels, as in this Archonic world, justice and fairness often feel like fantasy rather than realities. This world is like a prison that charges inmates a confinement fee. We have no choice but to live here, and we get the privilege of paying for it.
