Thanks for clarification anon. It's true Valence just recently became a partner with Fulwell 73 with a minor stake of *chokes* $60 mil - so that's not a full ownership like they have of Billboard. What's interesting to me though is the existence of these little communities that are all in business together. It absolutely shapes who gets to the top of the charts and how. When it's a small group of predominantly white, wealthy men that control ever-growing chunks of the industry it tends to limit what gets to be popular. And I'm imagining that in these small communities there most likely is awareness around who is involved in questionable/oppressive behaviours in their context. Fulwell 73's deal with Valence is super recent but the players are all part of the same community.
